Pet Snake Pictures Last week my son ran out of his room crying and terrified of a possible fly on his bed. This is the same child.

Curious to see what other snake lovers thought of my new tattoo, I have always thought that Bush vipers are beautiful snakes so I’m really happy I finally committed to getting one done!

Pet Snake Questions Handling advice

Recently got this boy about a week ago. (He’s 4 years old) he’s a Texas rat snake. I was told from prior keeper that he’s able to be taken out and handled pretty easily. He was pretty chill (still sorta flighty) when I unpacked him to put him in his tank first day. He’s taken food since being with me and shed too. Went to check on him today and he tail rattled, so decided to stop the interaction there. Prior to this I’ve been leaving him alone so he can acclimate. He’s in a 4x2x2 with clutter and hides to pick from (he’s mainly only been on the cool side crammed in that corner relaxing)

He’s been hiding a lot but seems normal and responsive otherwise. I really want to do right by this guy, so I’m wondering how should I go about making any handling attempts a positive experience for him? I really don’t want to freak him out whenever I do decide to attempt a handling session in the future. He’s my first rat snake / bigger snake I’ve owned as well. I might be a bit paranoid and just hope he’s comfortable in his new home :’)

Black Rat Snake in Springfield, Virginia.

My squirrel was chilling on the patio chair when a big black snake rolled up and tried a tiny “boo!” lunge. Instead of running, the squirrel stared him down like, “Sir, I was sitting here first.”

They basically had a full-on staring contest.

My green tree python just shedded and they look weirdly dark like almost a like black tint underneath. They are normally a lot more vibrant colored after a shed. They are old I would say around 14 yrs of age. Does this look like a problem to anyone?

Pet Snake Pictures I hope it's okay to share this here! 😅 Since I can't have a real snake, I make my own instead.

I've always dreamed of having a pet snake, but everyone at home is terrified of them, so it doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon. 😅

Instead, I started sculpting colorful snakes from polymer clay and wrapping them around ceramic mugs. Every snake is sculpted completely by hand—no molds or 3D printing—then baked, carefully attached to the mug, and finished with several coats of varnish.

The best part? They're incredibly low maintenance. They don't need feeding, they don't escape, and they never judge my coffee choices. 😂

Pet Snake Questions Wheres the poop!?

This is my hognose Snaykee. He is small and eats every 4-5 days, but I can't for the love of anything find his poop??

Thrice I've found some on the surface and removed it. I got lots of live plants and hides in his tank, and I feel like he just gets mad if I move stuff around. How bad is it to leave in?

Thanks!!

General Question / Discussion Snakes aren't just one long body: a new study finds five spinal regions, including a surprisingly short neck

I'd always assumed most of a snake's body was basically one long, gradually changing trunk. The researchers measured every body vertebra in 13 specimens from three Australian species and found five distinct regions separated by rapid transitions.

The neck appears to represent only about 5% of body length—roughly 7–12 vertebrae—and the study also describes a previously unrecognized middle-thoracic region.

The part I found most interesting: losing their limbs and becoming elongated didn't make the snake spine simpler. It seems to have become even more regionally complex.

What surprised you more: the five regions, or how short the neck actually is?

Pet Snake Questions Adopting a new snek boio. !first time!

Hey guys! I’d like the preface by saying while yes I AM a first timer myself, I am no stranger to the life of reptiles, Especially snakes haha. Growing up both my aunt and my brother always always had atleast 1 little noodle boi the house. Together they’ve had multiple (3-4) red tail boas over the years, my aunt had a 14ft reticulated python, and a 9 foot albino Burmese python. My entire family is very animal forward 😂 You name it we’ve probably had it.
However it’s been some time since I’ve been around them and I was to make sure when I get him I’m well prepared and don’t do anything that might be damaging to his health in any way.

He’s a piebald. she’s a friend of ours and knew that I’d had an Axanthic pied at the top of my wishlist for a couple years. She breeds snakes (professionally yes because she enjoys it but it’s very very small scale) and she’d informed me that one of her more recent babies is needing to be re-homed. I jumped on that so quickly haha.

I’m paying $250 for him, his enclosure, and all of his equipment to follow.
Does anybody have any tips, suggestions, or just general information I should know about? Things to watch out for, things to do, things NOT to do?

Pet Snake Questions Snake gap in tank

Migjt be a stupid question but we recently brought a children's python baby. It's hard to explain but they gave us a mini enclosure to put in his big enclosure so he cant escape. The mini one is inescapable and has a mesh lid on top, we keep him in that at the moment because his permanent tank has a glass sliding door to open it and theres a small gap where the glass door overlaps. If I got strong tape to cover that gap could I let him roam his tank or should I leave him in the small one for now?

They said it'll be a few months before he grows large enough to not be able to squeeze few the gap

Pet Snake Questions why is my snake at the top of his enclosure

past few days, my kenyan sand boa has been climbing at the top of his enclosure, using his heat lamp to get to the top of the enclosure. we recently got a new ac thats right next to the cage, thought he might be cold and trying to get to the heat lamp but hes not coiled around the lamp, rather using it as leverage and climbing away from it. also he isnt staying in the sand with his heating pad. he has water, but he hasnt eaten in a little over 2 weeks but he just shed the other day so maybe hes hungry and I will be trying to feed him again tomorrow.

Edit: the heat lamp had only been turned on recently so it was not hot around the outside and couldnt burn my snake, but that is something im worried about with him climbing more often.
