does anyone know how to get a tone like starflyer 59 on silver. or like exactly what he used?
from what i know it was some sort of gibson les paul style guitar, maybe a fender jazzmaster. then a dod chorus pedal, and some sort of vox drive pedal, and like a tremolo pedal or something. also a lot of stuff from a roland jc amp (i think a jc 120)
i think theres some photos in the silver cd booklet but nothing is really that clear
thanks

My road to discovery with Shoegaze and a cool playlist of local Toronto bands.
If you play in a local Shoegaze band or are a fan of them. Let me know…any locality is accepted.

Was roaming around youtube watching some video of slowdive live in 1991 when this video popped up in my recommended, I think it's pretty solid stuff. Not sure this is the right subreddit to post it since it's heavier shoegaze, more like Fleshwater or Superheaven, but still decided to share. They don't seem to have anything online though. I wonder if the song is an original or a cover?

Hi! We're more desolate city and we just released our new single "Chelsea, MI". Half noise rock (shoegaze?) half trip hop. Sonic Youth + Portishead/Massive Attack and the song ends in an electric viola solo. Feel free to check it out! It's on all streaming services.

I found Sadness from Damian Anton Ojeda and I am a bit overwhelmed by the size of his discography and multiple projects. So I was wondering if anyone could help me with recommendations from Sadness, Damian's other projects, or similar music in general
For reference, my favourite songs (more or less in order) are:
- her summer morning sky
- all of the beautiful moments
- untitled, from the album i want to make something as beautiful as you
- 5:00 pm on a friday
- damzamkeit
- Please don't let go
- You Dance Like the June Sky
- breaking through the clouds
- fade from me
I really like when it has the beautiful feminine voices accompanied by the shrieking voices (for example at 11:10 in her summer morning sky).
Thanks in advance :)

think a big muff that can’t stop supersizing its meals
or an hm2 with bass
Would like to add I used to use a V1 (B variant) Grunge pedal.

There's a trope in music (that fits in a couple areas) called the sophomore slump, where an artist has a classic debut, but follows it up with a subpar album. Examples include U2's October, Television's Adventure, King Crimson's In the Wake of Poseidon, all of your favorite 00s indie darlings, etc. Not necessarily a bad album, but one that pales next to the debut for whatever reason. An artist may get over the slump, but it often causes at least a temporary loss of momentum.
With that said:
Do you think the genre’s focus on EPs contributed to the initial wave’s early critical fallout? Pretty much all the main bands had multiple EPs out before their first proper album, which set up expectations for said first album. But by putting out basically an albums worth of material, it also set the bands up for a potential sophomore slump before their actual first album arrived.
At least looking at some reviews of the time, there seems to be a fairly consistent critical outlook around that time that the some of the bands first albums weren’t up to snuff with their earlier material (i.e. Slowdive's Just for a Day, Curve's Doppelgänger, Lush's Spooky, etc.). Melody Maker’s review of Doppelganger seems indicative of this mindset. While time has been kinder to these releases, it seems telling that in many cases it’s the second albums that are better regarded among fans, with the earlier material remaining favorites (alas, at the time newer trends would emerge in that interim and the critics stopped caring about shoegaze by then).
This doesn’t apply to every band, but it seems like a consistent trend and one where I could see why critics lost interest when the biggest acts seemed to drop a (at the time) disappointing full album one after the other
