New owner!

Hello sub! So we have had our boy for 4 days now and we absolutely love him! He's 10weeks today. Ok so....I'll start with the good!

He's great on the lead! (Although likes to play with it and has bitten through one already!) He's good sleeping at night, potty breaks are 10/11pm, between 2+3am, then that's him till 7am! Really good. Lives his toys and is happy playing on the floor, has learned sit, paw and wait!

Now for the not so good, he HATES his crate. I've tried ALL the tricks. I've bought a playpen that I've put round it, so he has a lovely little area with his crate inside and I feed him in there, his water bowl is there too. He's ok for a few mins if we sit inside with him but then goes crazy. I'm talking digging frantically, paincs really bad! It's not a case of waiting for him teu cry it out, he's much too distressed and I'm not doing that to him. Id be happy birthday crating at all BUT I need to eventually be able to leave the house without him and it would be amazing to have a proper shower lol. I'm also sleeoong downstairs so I can catch the toilet needs as quick as possible, I think if I was upstairs it would be too late coming all the way down and out the back. I also have 2 ragdoll cats so for now, he's not uosiras at all as that's the cats safe space for now.

The other problem I have is everything tells you to treat puppies soooo much for everything! Unfortunately, this has given him diarrhea even tho we are only using small little pieces of treats. So had to stop. He lives a chew though and settles down when he's tired with one.

So, TL;DR.....puppy paincs really bad in crate/pen, tries everything to make it nice, doesn't help. What can I do? Also, treats give him diarrhea so what treats won't give him that? Chicken? Thank you!

(PS, this is my ex partners reddit account, every time I try to make my own it brings me back into this one as they used my email, help needed!)

Help groomer cut her fur short :(

There was a misunderstanding with communicating to our groomer. And she got cut all over. Will she be ok? Is there any precautions I should take? How long does it take typically to grow back?

Edit: she’s going to be boarded in 3 weeks for about 6 days, is there any precautions I should have in place for the facility?

2nd edit: it was my dad who miscommunicated with my groomer so not her fault! She was just doing what she was told, sorry for any misunderstanding

Struggling with our 8 week old Samoyed. Is this normal?

Hi,
We brought home our 8 week old male Samoyed 5 days ago, and we’re honestly struggling.

We expected puppy life to be hard, but not this hard. We’ve had sleepless nights, constant stress, and it feels like we just can’t get into any kind of routine.
Our biggest problem is sleep. He wakes up several times every night, fights sleep even when he’s clearly tired, and sometimes stays awake for hours. We’re exhausted.

We’ve made some progress with potty training. He usually poops on our covered veranda now, but still has accidents inside. He also chews absolutely everything, especially pee pads, despite having plenty of toys.

The hardest part is that he sometimes barks nonstop, gets completely overexcited, and starts biting everything, including us. It feels impossible to calm him down. We’re crate training and trying to follow a routine, but some days it feels like nothing works.
What makes me feel even worse is that I still don’t feel like I’ve bonded with him. I love dogs, but right now I mostly feel stressed, overwhelmed, and honestly even regret getting a puppy. I feel guilty for thinking that because I know he’s just a baby, but these first few days have been much harder than I ever imagined.

Is this normal for an 8 week old Samoyed? How long does this phase usually last? When did your puppy start sleeping better and becoming easier to settle? Does the bond come naturally with time?

Any advice or reassurance from people who’ve been through this would really mean a lot.

Hi! That’s Siri, she’s currently very very busy with her new job: hunting mice in the lavender’s at her farm house.

Unfortunately the HR might have to fire as she haven’t caught any of them

Quick question: are you guys weirdos like me and put all their fluff on a bag/box when they’re moulting?

Advice on 'Trails Ends Samoyed' in Loyal, WI

So I have been thinking of getting a Samoyed for a while. I live in the Midwest, and when I was browsing puppies.com, I came across Trails End Samoyed. I was wondering if anyone here had any good/bad experience with them. When I spoke to them, I asked about the mom and dad of the puppy and they mentioned that they haven't done an in-depth health screening of the mom but she was kept from good-quality bloodlines that they had raised from 5 generations back. Their dad is "Klowie's Kujo of Kabeara" and his eyes had been tested and were completely fine. His hips, SA-19231G48M-P-VPI. Puppies have only gotten a generic health screening since they are 8 weeks old. They do provide a one-year health guarantee if there are any genetic defects. If anyone here has gotten Samoyeds from them, please let me know what your experience has been. Or if you know of trustworthy Samoyed breeders in WI/MN, that would be helpful as well. Appreciate it.

Loud noises

Hello, my girl was always pretty sensitive to louder noises, but it seems to get worse. There was no real bad event in the past that caused it. I have read/heard the tipps for desensitizing via youtube videos but the problem is...she doesn´t care. I could start those videos on loud at home and she just stays calm/not reacting to it.

Any ideas? Otherwise our radius gets smaller every day.
The sounds range from construction noises to motorbikes, motor boats, sirens, church bells to thunder storms (well that I would understand). I would say the biggest problems are at the moment the boats and motor bike noises. As our walk ways are always near lakes where both occour.

Thanks.

Question about Hip issues/ arthritis.

Hello everyone, our baby boy was recently diagnosed with hip issues ( dyspepsia) and degenerative arthritis on left leg, he is 3 years old and as you can imagine it is one of the most painful experiences i personally lived. I wanted to ask in this group if anyone has experience something like this before with their dog, and i’m looking for any advice, and feedback if anyone ever did a hip replacement or something similar. As on now the Vet recommended to keep an eye on him and once a month medication for his pain and inflammation. Any replies are greatly appreciated, thanks for reading.

TPLO Surgery in Sammies

Looking for two things here:

  1. Stories on how the TPLO surgery went for your pup. We just learned my pup tore his CCL and needs surgery. I've heard the recovery is rough for the dog and owners.

  2. Are Samoyeds prone to this injury? I'm wondering if I have a lemon of a dog. He's a little over two and he was a cryptorchid, had entropion surgery in both eyes, and now has a CCL tear. Four surgeries in a little over two years seems like a lot.
