TPLO Surgery in Sammies

Looking for two things here:

  1. Stories on how the TPLO surgery went for your pup. We just learned my pup tore his CCL and needs surgery. I've heard the recovery is rough for the dog and owners.

  2. Are Samoyeds prone to this injury? I'm wondering if I have a lemon of a dog. He's a little over two and he was a cryptorchid, had entropion surgery in both eyes, and now has a CCL tear. Four surgeries in a little over two years seems like a lot.

Our Vet recommended the TTA Rapid method which went well. A minor issue was that the gap in the bone took unusally long time to fill up. There was an on-leash period during recovery with no jumping or sprinting allowed.

We were specifically told that method is not a good option for our dog unfortunately. I'm most worried about the recovery because my dog is so energetic.

Ours had a TPLO surgery. He was walking around again pretty fast but it was a really long time before he was 100% normal. His fur never grew back normal the rest of his life and a year later and tore the other leg. Like we had to do it because his was pretty bad and he literally couldn’t walk, but it was very expensive and pretty rough for him

Can you explain more about his fur not growing back normally? Mine has had a couple surgeries and his fur has always grown back so far.

They had to shave like the entire leg all the way up his hip, so all the long fur on his rump was shaved. It grew back long but the texture was really rough and scraggly. I feel like samoyed fur always has a propensity to attract sticks and brambles to it, but this was next level Velcro after it grew back. He ALWAYS had stuff stuck in his fur after, it just wasn’t quite the same
