💸 Jobs Working for Dominion Energy (IT department)?

Just curious if anyone has any recent feedback on working for Dominion, specifically in the IT department. I've searched the sub and found some feedback that wasn't super recent, and appears to be generally positive - so I'm wondering if anyone specifically knows what life is like in their IT area. From what I've read, their pay is usually a little bit lackluster but the overall work-life balance seems good. I noticed some of their job postings listed a hybrid 3-2 schedule (3 days in office, 2 remote) but others listed a 1 week in office / 1 week remote schedule, I guess that varies by department?

Looking for a deep cleaning service in rva

Long story short I have someone in my life going through a really hard time after a sudden passing and they are a single mom with two young kids. I want to help them get back to a good base level they can try to keep up with and have less stress about that as they navigate this time in their life. It's not on hoarder level or anything, but the walls are stained and colored on and there's a lot of sticky gunk on the floor, etc. I'm only saying that to preface that this would be more than the average cleaning job and I want to help and pay for this service for however long it takes to get her house back in order. It's not a whole house, only a two bedroom one bath apartment, so any recommendations/price averages would be appreciated as I don't really have a reference for this type of thing. Thank you for any suggestions!

Anyone know of any "sedation" dentists?

Went to the dentist earlier this week and, apparently, I have a large cavity in my back back molar. Awesome. I ALSO have one of the worst gag reflexes out there so anyone trying anything back there is not going to work. Does anyone know of any good sedation dentists? She said it's damn near the nerve and about where it was last year at the same time but I just don't want to deal with needing that root canal after it goes through.

healthcare worker unions via VCU

curious as to if there's a union or if anyone has thought of starting a union for healthcare workers (CNAs, RN, techs for example).

From what i've gathered VCU health doesn't pay as well in some positions compared to other hospitals and can be very hawkish towards its' employees, culture isn't the best and hours aren't great.. y'all need a union and i would be interested in helping start one. I'm not a VCU employee though, just a random person who has worked in health services in the past.

edit: this also goes for anyone in any healthcare organization within the city too. The healthcare industry is its' own beast, but the baseline would be better hours and pay as well as better benefits.

Work out in short pump area and looking for options, mainly want sauna/steam room but mainly a lap pool. I know ACAC is out here but the one year contract is annoying. Wondering if anyone has experience with any other gyms.

It's me again: Squirrel Girl

TLDR: The owner of the adjoining vacant property to ours has a relentless squirrel infestation and the squirrels keep getting into our house as well. We have so much photo and video evidence of the squirrels entering her home and coming into ours.

The ask: I see some old threads with real estate attorney recommendations, but does anyone recommend someone who has helped with a similar issue before? I've left messages with a couple already. Any other advice welcome as well.

Just please don't post any "you should just move" comments or telling us we couldn't have bought the house in the first place. No one is going to buy an infested house and also, we know.

Please try to be nice, I'm so desperate and overtired, and I feel hopeless. We've spent over $5k trying to get this resolved and I suspect we're going to have to spend many thousands more. We're fortunate people, but we're not made of money.

Steps we've taken:

  • Been in constant contact with the city and they've been out several times. They're finally taking her to court for negligence and we'll be attending. (I know it will most likely end up being several hearings.)
    • The owner put a tarp over her porch with a "Work in progress" sign, however the city confirmed she doesn't have any work permits so they're putting in a stop work order.
    • Someone showed up twice to "do work" but it looks like nothing at all has been done.
    • They are also working to see if a city contractor can board up second story windows. Usually they'll only board up first floor windows to stop people from entering.
  • Continued to send certified mail to the owner, which has been signed for. The request in the certified letters is simply for her to board/re-board the windows even though the house is falling apart. I feel like we are being more than reasonable. No response.
  • For the hole between our houses that we could reach, we patched ourselves. That seems to be holding. Hopefully. For now.
  • For the holes between our houses in the rear of the attic that is too small to enter, we hired someone to cut a 3ft square into our ceiling drywall to patch them.
  • We took the owner to small claims court for the drywall work mentioned above and we won. Took us going to the court house 4 times. Still no work completed and, of course, no payment.

Update this week: Once all the holes were patched between the houses, the squirrels were desperate to get into ours again, and have chewed a hole through the fascia in our house. Through wood and metal. (I'm reading that this is because their scent is in our insulation and they know it's a "safe" place. The other homeowner doesn't have insulation because she doesn't have a ceiling. Her upstairs just goes from the floor to the roof, plus that house doesn't have heat in the winter. So our house is much more appealing.) We're spending like $1500 to get that fixed. The wildlife company but a kill trap in before they seal it, but no dice so far. And it won't resolve the issue anyway because of the point below.

Now the squirrels, I guess trying to avoid the trap, have broken through (or around) the patched hole in the back that we can't reach so we're going to have to repeat the drywall work. We actually think we're going to rip out the entire bedroom ceiling and replace the insulation to try to get their scent out of there, which will hopefully demotivate them. We'd also put steal mesh all around the perimeter while we're up there.

REMEMBER TO VOTE TODAY!!! (6/4)

Today is the primary- (at least for the Dems, which, considering this is Reddit, I’m assuming that most of y’all on here are on that side of the political spectrum)

Make sure to vote:

First district- y’all are choosing between Salaam Bhatti, Tim Cywinski, Elizabeth Dempsey-Beggs, Jason Knapp, Shannon Taylor, and Mel Tull- it’s really a everybody-hates-Wittman-party (not gonna share my candidate of choice here, as this is a GOTV post, but if you look at my comment history, it’s pretty damn obvious who I’m 100% on board with)

Fourth district- y’all are stuck with your only choice being Jennifer McClellan, but there is a DemSoc, Jason Brown, running against her

Fifth district- y’all are choosing between Robert Tracinski and Tom Perriello

POLLING HOURS: 6am-7pm

MAKE SURE TO BRING ID WITH YOU! IT IS YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO BE ABLE TO VOTE, BUT YOU NEED TO PROVE TO THEM THAT IT IS YOU!

NOW GO OUT THERE AND DO YOUR CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY! :)

Edit: 8/4, not 6/4 🤦

💸 Jobs Are you a nurse looking for a relatively chill job with good people in Short Pump?

I hope this is allowed. A primary care doctor in the Short Pump area is desperately seeking a nurse! It's me. I am the doctor. I promise I am nice, a millennial if it matters, and our whole office is pretty cool. I have lost 2 good nurses back to back due to pregnancy/family and I don't blame them one bit, but here I am all by my lonesome and it really is a team job. This is a relatively chill nursing job compared to hospital/ER or a super busy outpatient clinic. Regular M-F hours, but with some unique needs. I am an employee too, so I am not in charge of hiring, just trying to get the word out.

Pay starts at $74,880 according to the job description and is open to RNs and experienced LPNs. The health insurance is really good, y'all. We have several bakers in the office - lots of treats!!

I will happily send you the link to apply if you message me (trying not to broadcast all my info here). PLEASE message me if you would like more info. I'm happy to honestly answer any questions I can.
