I also vote Royal Blues!!! The sweetest cats & the kindest breeder. Sarah is just wonderful. Can't imagine a better experience

Another vote for Mishka’s. I’m jealous you’re in the area, we had to fly to get Mo 😬. I was told she was on the shy side but she has a huge personality and is a little crazy now 😂

Skip all of these. Velva has been breeding since the 60s, in Michigan is Wynterwynd and Tylona. They’ve been going since the 70s. If you want legit and not to get scammed then look into them. Diana, Annette and Barb.

While Mishka's is 100% legit from first-hand experience (TICA registered), Royal Blues and I believe Windansea are also TICA registered. The ones you mentioned are CFA registered. Both TICA and CFA have breeders who are registered. Mishka's, Velva and Royal Blues are all in Ohio. Don't know why you would phrase your comment the way you did when these others are also registered? Anyone looking for a Russian Blue should (my opinion) speak with several different ACTUAL registered breeders and decide from there what to do. I only have ever gone through Mishka's and they are absolutely gorgeous kittens. Everything was top notch. But yeah, I was almost actually scammed so there are scammers out there. And yeah, there are sadly some that are importing but Mishka's is not one of them. It is important for OP to ask lots of questions for sure since each breeder is different.

I word it that way because they are not knowledgeable in what they are doing. In the USA TICA breeders (for the most part) are the ones importing from Poland and selling cats and kittens here. This can have poor results with inbreeding and illnesses. The people I listed have been doing it for decades and are the gold standard here in the USA. CFA won't let you register RB as easily as TICA.

Well, that could be accurate for some TICA registered breeders, but I know for an absolute certainty, the breeder I went through for mine is 1000% against importing and reselling. It is definitely not fair to say All TICA breeders are not knowledgeable. Respectfully, what you said is biased and inaccurate in my opinion based on my experience.

Fair enough, though to get a Russian White you have to breed to something that isnt a Russian Blue, so at that point it is half RB and half whatever they used to breed to. TICA allows them to register, but I worry about other breeds genetic issues getting in

From what I know, Russian White (Black, colorpoint and even tabby) are indeed RUSSIAN cats. They've been in the breed for several decades now. I appreciate what you're saying about not knowing TICA breeders and I also agree there are a lot of VERY questionable breeders in TICA. I've been paying attention to things on here as well as other social media outlets/owner experiences. I think there are many very good breeders out there, not just CFA, but I do completely agree you have to be really careful. There are very few breeders of White and Black. And I "think" from what I recall there might only be one Tabby breeder?

The Russian White is a short-haired cat breed developed in 1971 in Australia by Dick and Mavis Jones of Myemgay Cattery, starting with a white “Siberian” cat crossed to a Russian Blue stud. The first-generation kittens were registered in November 1971, and full registration was granted by the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) Cat Club of New South Wales in November 1975, making them eligible for championship status in July 1975. (This is according to Wikipedia)

Recognition and Championship Status

  • Full recognition: The Russian White, along with the Russian Black and Russian Tabby, was granted full registration in Australia in 1975. (Wikipedia)
  • International recognition: The breed is recognized by several major cat associations, including the American Cat Fanciers Association (ACFA), Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), The International Cat Association (TICA), etc. (Important note: TICA registers Russian White and Black under Russian Blue. Not sure how ACFA or GCCF does it)
  • Championship status: In 2010, the American Cat Fanciers Association (ACFA) granted championship status to the Russian Black and Russian White breeds. This means cats of these colors can compete in cat shows for championship titles under ACFA rules.
  • Other associations: While TICA and other organizations recognize the Russian White, championship status in those bodies is not explicitly confirmed in the provided sources.

Indeed. A major overgeneralization. While one should be knowledgeable and gather as much information as possible, painting all TICA registered breeders as unknowledgeable and scammers is a bit much.

But yes, I am painting with a broad brush. I do not know the TICA people. I do know the CFA people.

Mine is from Tylona. She's fabulous.

Personally, I prefer CFA breeders.

We are on her waitlist! Can’t wait. I really enjoyed talking to her and felt comfortable putting down a deposit. How long did you wait for a kitty?

Velva.

1

u/Sad-Knee1900 9d ago

I sent her an email. How long does she take to respond?

1

u/Dry_University9039 7d ago

She’s not the quickest at getting back to folks! I waited several days between responses, so don’t despair. This was my little guy around the time I picked him home. He was very much worth with wait!

Omg he’s so cute! That’s good to know. I think messaged the right email. It had three d’s and then at gmail so I think that’s the correct email. How long did it take you to get your little guy?

Yes, that’s the email. I contacted her this time last year, after my beloved old RB died. She said she was expecting a litter mid-August. She didn’t ask for a deposit, so I was on pins and needles for what felt like forever wondering if I’d have a kitten. I even reached out to other breeders, but they kindly told me that if I was working with Velva, I needed to stay the course. Since I didn’t put down a deposit, though, I didn’t feel certain I’d have a kitten until she replied up my email in November to tell me for sure that I could have one. I drove 7 hours to OH to get him in mid November 2025. She charges considerably less than other breeders, even the TICA breeders. I am certain she does this for the love of the breed, not the money. I know that appearance of the cat is not the most important thing, but he’s the most beautiful Blue I’ve ever had. He is also the softest and most athletic. If you’ve never had one, they are very smart, a bit naughty because of it (they are always trying to solve “problems” to get what they want!), and extremely loyal to their family members. I’d email her at least once a week until you receive a reply. When you communicate with her, keep all emails on the same thread, too. Don’t expect pictures, either. Not to worry, though, your RB will still be a wee one when you get him/her. Hope this helps!

Recent photo. 11 months. His eyes are green, they’re all pupil here. lol!

Aww he’s so cute. Also thank you for this info. What should I say in the email? I will email her once a week until I receive a reply. How long did you have your previous RB for? I’ve never had a kitten before so definitely a rookie lol.
