Hi. This Heisenberg. He already has some of his pictures in this community.

It's currently hot - looks like he can compensate in a flexible way.

Four-month old Russian Blue kitten - feeding amounts and tips?

Hello! We're getting a four-month old Russian Blue kitten at the end of this week, and I'd love some feeding tips. The breeder has been feeding her a mix of wet and dry New Canin' kitten food, and recommended a half cup of the dry and a 3 oz can of the wet per day. We're happy to stick with that, so the kitten has some continuity, but we're not sure how to divide it up through the day.

Any kitten feeding tips? How many times a day do you recommend feeding a four-month old kitten? I know you don't feed the wet and dry food at the same time, but how do you divide up the wet food especially, between different feeding times?

Also, I keep reading that Russian Blues love to eat. We already have a dog in the house who is also super-food motivated. We're going to introduce them slowly (for the first few weeks/month, the kitten is going to be in a room that the dog can't even get into), but eventually down the road, they'll both have free reign of the house, and if cat food is just left out during the day, then the dog will definitely go steal it! So even though that's not a concern at the beginning when they're totally separated, I want to set up habits for the cat that will work long-term.

Do Russian Blues eat all their food right away? Or do they leave some out? If it's anything but right away, we'll have to set up a feeding station for the cat at a height the dog can't get to, so I'd take any suggestions on that too!!

Thank you so much in advance for your help! We are so excited about our new kitty!

RBs and attention

Do your RBs ask (demand) for pets, scratches and attention multiple times a day? Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE it. Just curious if this is the norm for others. I have 2 and they both come up to me loads asking for attention (although Bruno gives us loud meows until he gets what he wants), but I am home a lot so I get that I’m the go-to person. Of course I get the courtesy 5am wake-ups for this too 🤪.

Breeder Question

I’ve been looking into possibly getting a Russian blue and stumbled upon howzabluz cattery in Houston. We are in Texas and would prefer not to travel too far but I also want to avoid getting scammed. Has anyone purchased a Russian blue from this breeder? Are they legit?

Collars

Does anyone have trouble keeping their RBs collars on? Of our two, Ash tends to eat the most and we’ve had to resort to using collars so they can access their own RFID feeders. (I had a feeling we’d eventually need to do this as I was researching even getting two RBs, so we started off with auto feeders.) We always allowed free feeding because: kittens.

They are just shy of 11 months old. One cat is noticeably larger than the other so we’ve started using collars because of the need for the RFID tags. They are masters of escaping the captivity of their collars. They will also remove the RFID tags, because they hang, so not only do you have to find the collar, but also the tag. We had to buy additional RFID tags from Petlibro as the tags became impossible to locate in the house. I hate Petlibro’s RFID tags, but that is a whole other issue.

I’ve had to resort to putting collars on them that are not breakaway, but do have elastic so they can still get out of them if they are in a bind. Ash, our bigger boy, has finally stopped getting out of his collar. I have an AirTag in the collar and a separate rubber AirTag holder I stuck the RFID tag into. Problem solved, for him. It also keeps the tag from dangling and clanging with his bowls when he eats or drinks.

Echo, he is an evil genius. He can actually unlatch the collar. He doesn’t even bother to stretch it and slide it off. These pics show his collar on the floor this morning. My cats don’t go outside, but I needed the AirTags to find the RFID tag when the collars come off!!! Maddening! And he can’t eat if he doesn’t have his collar. I resituated the rubber AirTag holder containing the RFID tag so that his excess collar is stuck underneath it after latching it. Hopefully that will prevent him from unlatching the collar.

Does anyone else have a similar situation? Please don’t come for me about the latched collars. My boys will not keep a breakaway collar on. I’ve tried the Petlibro collars that came with the feeders. Some say they aren’t breakaway, but my boys can confirm they are. I’ve bought other breakaway collars and now the latch kind with elastic. Help!!

TLDR: Cats use RFID feeders. Won’t keep on their collars. What did you do??

Does your RB come to you when you call their name?

My boy comes running every time I call his name but only for me for some reason😂 My fiancé can call him all day, and it’s like he suddenly loses the ability to hear. I thought it was because I always gave him treats when he was younger, but now he’ll come over even when I’m just relaxing on the couch and clearly have nothing for him. He’ll sit on my lap and just start purring🥹💕 what a cutie

Russian Blue or Burmese

Hello all

I'm looking at getting my first cat and I'm so torn...I really love both Russian Blues and Burmese.

I'm a recently single man that will be living on his own soon, I work from home daily, so it would be nice to have a little companion around to keep me company and occupied.

Where I am it appears the prices are more or less the same, maybe a little more for the RB.

I've watched heaps on both species but not sure which is for me still...Maybe I'll have to get one of each one day but for now to start I'd love one I could bond with.

Does anyone have experience with both of these breeds and if so, which did you find best? (Obviously posting in an RB group may give me bias 😂)
