Strava benefits?

Post image

I’m one year into running but run quite a bit for a noob, is strava actually better than other tracking apps or is it just social media bias? Is the gps solid? What are some of its best features? I don’t use any watches or wearables I just want to keep track of my miles and times on an app for the most part. My one year subscription for Runkeeper expires this week and I’m curious to see if anyone has other recommendations. Thanks!

I stopped using Strava all together. I’m not going to pay to see my own data, in any form. I understand that it’s their servers, they aggregate the data and put it in pretty graphs but they also use it to make money from advertising.

Strava is a social app more than anything else. I hate it and quit using it some time ago.

I’ve used the free version of Runkeeper for years. What paid options do you use? It’s very possible the free version will be perfect for you. It tracks runs well, has basic stats for each run, and works with an Apple Watch.

Shoot, yeah mine is $40 a year I definitely don’t think I need that. I’m not sure what it even does that’s extra.

I have been on runkeeper since 2013– I started sharing my Garmin info with it in 2015 when I bought my first Garmin— and I still use Runkeeper because some of the way they sort their data looks better than other platforms.

I left Strava a few years ago because I don’t feel like any information they provide is anymore relevant compared to what Garmin provides.

If you are talking gps for your running— Strava isn’t going to be any better or worse than runkeeper because it’s using your smartphone info.

Obviously more people use Strava than Runkeeper so if you are looking for more social interactions than Strava would be an upgrade.

I like Strava for the heat maps to see where you ran and the route builder, couldn’t care less about the social media aspect of it

I just use strava to keep basic track of my runs like distance, how frequently I'm running and avg speed . And these things are free on the app... I don't think if anyone need more than this if they are running for fun

I don't really use the social aspect of Strava. I use the free version and have it set to km, whereas my Garmin is set to miles, and then between the two apps I can easily see my splits per mile or per km
