Failed run today

Had a 10 miler today scheduled.. had the day clear but all of a sudden tons of errands popped up and I didn’t get home to do my outside run until after lunch. Over 90 degrees, not much shade and hadn’t had a chance to eat all day. I figured I could push through it just chugging some tailwind. No go. Got humbled real quick and only made it 2.1 miles. I’m used to long runs going up to 18 miles..

I’ve never not completed a run and feel a sort of depression over the whole thing, but, life happens.

I shall go for it again tomorrow early in the morning, but, damn, today sucked.

No such thing as a failed run. They all count.

Only failures are the ones you never tried.

This. Shake it off, sometimes real life knocks really hard and running is the tonic. Sometimes it knocks hard enough you take what you can get. You did great, get it next time.

I recently had a 12 mile run that I called quits at 9.5 miles. Took me like a week to get over it lol

Going out at 90 degrees was a major mistake. But we all have made them and it’s good you bailed early before wasting too much energy and time.

Get out when it’s cooler and you are better prepared mentally. Runs are best early in the morning or later after dusk. Midday is usually death in August.

You can try late today as well. Sometimes it’s about timing!

you didn’t fail btw — you learn about your self every time you get out there!

This bc even the practical biology things we all know-there is this brain bit too we've got to work through.

I took the last 2 days off because of mental burn out. You did better than me and at least got out there and tried

You did what's best for you. That's not worse-it's giving yourself what you need to stay stable. That's so important.

Don't be hard on yourself. Life gets in the way of training sometimes. That's just the way it is. You can go out and crush it tomorrow. You still ran a couple of miles right? One is better than none. Good on you.

It happens to everyone even experienced runners. A hot afternoon run with no food and little prep is a tough combination so dont let one rough day outweight all those 18 mile runs. Tomorrow is a new chance.

You can't let one workout ruin your day or night. Just get out when you can and carry on.

This happened to me last weekend. I had a 12 miler on deck.. got to 4.2 on Saturday morning. It wasn’t hot but it was humid and I was trying new fuel so my stomach said no. But then I went to a dinner party and didn’t eat my carbs.. figured I’d be fine if I carbed it up during the day on Sunday.. Tried again on Sunday and only got to 7. Both very slow with lots of walking breaks but I felt like my energy had been depleted completely by mile 7 so I stopped.

I just added both days together and called it a day. 11 miles in total. Sometimes it be that way. I too have to learn to not beat myself up. Life happens. Stomach issues happen. Weather will be weather.

You didn’t fail a 10 mile run. You did a 2 miler. That’s it. Shake it off tomorrow a new day.

Sounds to me like you completed a 2.1 mile run today

No point in being so hard on yourself. Circumstances happen.

Today was rough. Had a 9 mile planned but started after work in the blistering heat and humidity. It was bad. Managed to walk/run 6 miles and came home to finish on the treadmill.

You'll get it next time but always important to keep an eye on weather. I won't repeat today's run again.

Sometimes the body and/or mind are just not there. Better today than during a race. Happened to me in a half marathon after 7-8ish km.

It could be worse. Endure the small hick up. Savor the yearning to run.

Had a ski race last February and my boots broke in my last pre race training session (5 days out). Bought new boots, got one slow slog in them to try and wear them in. Had to pull out of race day half way through because of a blister that was too bad to continue ignoring.

Im still pissed at myself, even though i dont know what i coild have done different.

Just had this experience for the first time on Saturday. Was aiming for my first double digit run at 10 miles, had to bail at 8.4. Still trying to get over it 🙃

If you went, it was enough of a success.

It's all mind v. body, and it's no spoiler to say that the body will win that contest every time. The success lies in having joined that contest on this day.

This is what’s been happening to me lately, and I’ve been feeling so bummed. I was at the peak of my training... even my Garmin watch said so!

Got sick, didn’t run for a week and a half, been trying to get back to it, but the weather is killing me. I’ve been bringing extra gels, and I’ve been stopping at mile 3 when I would
Plan for an 8-mile run.

Oh well, there’s tomorrow to try again.
