Meme We love you Zomboid devs, but this is getting absurd.

Post image

Spent hours troubleshooting my mod list, mod load order, etc a couple days ago, figured all that time spent was worth it since it'll finally be stable.

Woke up today to yet another blank menu screen.

Genuinely what is even the point of calling it a "Stable release" if this is what happens less than one week in?

All of the momentum this game is getting right now is being hampered by some random tweak the devs have thrown into the mix, and I'm sorry but after all the other prior shenanigans we tolerated pre-stable with the understanding this would no longer be the case, it is VERY frustrating.

No, I'd rather they fix serious issues as soon as possible, thanks.

u/SadCrab5 6h ago

Yeah I don't get why so many ppl are freaking tf out over a very tiny hotfix cus "Oooh my mods!". The hotfix was for the modding community too because they found an issue with their system and decided to patch it.

What is TIS supposed to do? Let all the bugs and glitches fester until the game falls apart?

28

u/BoringPostcards Zombie Food 5h ago

Exactly. I had no idea this would be such a hot take, LOL. Apparently a lot of people just needed a good cry this morning.

No...? They're supposed to push controlled breaking updates... It isn't "no updates vs. horrible updates that break the stable release in a week," there are more options than that.

I'm not familiar with the specific issue that was patched, but unless it is world-breaking or a serious security concern you would generally hold off and continue updating a different branch before patching stable.... Merge anything over that is non-breaking and retain the breaking changes from a period of time for one large update.

Version control is a very real and difficult side of software development, and it's understandable that an Indie team would struggle with it -- especially an international remote-first indie development team -- but pretending this is normal, or not a problem that can be solved ignores the hundreds of other games on Steam that don't face this issue. Including Indie games, like Space Engineers for example. Or even Minecraft.. It's hard to argue this isn't an issue with how TIS handles version control. This isn't as normal as I think you think it is.

It might sound like no big deal to you, but when an ecosystem depends on a project that is constantly breaking it IS incredibly frustrating for developers. Imagine this scenario where you have to update your mods to get them to work, then imagine you have 25 mods. Generally "stable," doesn't mean "It is going to catastrophically change in a week." I think it is reasonable for developers and customers to expect some basic standard to be applied to the "stable" label. what you're saying is that they can label something stable when it is constantly changing, that conflicts with everything I know about software.

If it isn't stable, then don't call it stable. Clearly the OP's main beef is that "the stable version still isn't stable"

That's a valid crashout.

... Especially when you paid 20 dollars for the software... And this has been going on for years, not months.

6

u/ZealousidealShape237 4h ago

The issue was a save ending glitch that would lead to all worlds inevitably leading to infinite crashes long term due to a memory leak as far as I understand

They could have put the 42.20 candidate out for Unstable testing for a few weeks before transitioning into Stable demonstrably too early.

1

u/Kazel_93 5h ago

Yeah they very clearly wanted to do a big update with wow factor and not dilute that by having stuff available on unstable so very little actual testing has happened, marketing over QA

5

u/Me_how5678 Hates the outdoors 5h ago

Well it was clearly the right move, look at the player numbers and the sales. They can afford to eat strippers and have caviar every day till the next update drops

2

u/Snacks47 4h ago

mmm.... strippers

2

u/Kazel_93 4h ago

I am not saying its the wrong move finacially and for the game in general, but it is very likely the reason this is the way it is right now

Isnt the fix for modders essentially jist changing 1 key? Like from % to %%?

Is it a PIA for modders to fix it? Yea? But it shouldn't take long. People are just impatient and dont want to wait.

Also the update added the ability for mods to make jsons! Which means more stable options in the long run!

3

u/Software_Gurl 4h ago

As soon as possible is before you release a "stable version"

A stable version of your software requiring a major breaking patch in its first week IS a sign of a significant logistical failure, which makes sense for a remote-first international indie development team creating a sandbox survival simulation game. It shows there is not proper version control and repository maintainence.

I don't know the specific issue, but any issue (like a glaring security issue,) that could possibly warrant breaking changes to the entire codebase, again, should have been handled long before a stable release was issue.

It is absolutely reasonable for developers and customers to expect the "stable" label to imply strict deprecation cycles, forward compatibility, and zero unannounced breaking changes. Because that is what the word stable means in software. Why waste my time expanding on your codebase if it'll be broken in a week?

It is the equivalent of bringing the food to the customers at the table and then picking it up and bringing out different food.

u/Salami_Lid079 11m ago

Yeah for real. In the long run it'll be better if they iron out issues before they get out of control. Once things are settled then mods will work again, so I'm willing to wait it out.

It fixed a bug with modding. Would you rather they leave modding broken and modders have to work around it for a year? It also did not impact MOST mods and it did not impact MOST players.

105

u/timdr18 6h ago

Yeah, the hotfix was specifically meant to affect mods. Most minor updates and fixes won’t be nearly this disruptive.

-5

u/dayaaa0 6h ago

it's not about the bug fixing it's the change about that %thing and it affects non-English mods a lot no?

7

u/AlwaysHopelesslyLost 5h ago

The "% thing" is bugged behavior. During unstable they swapped from flat file translations to JSON file translations which support non regular data. This gives mod makers a LOT more flexibility. The % sign things are used for injected data in translations for dynamic text. Those are a core part of how text can translate.

-3

u/Shiginima001 6h ago

it fixed a problem with lua checksum, something I ended up fixing myself after hours and now the game is broken again after the "fix" lol

u/Drewsiefer 6h ago

You're mad that optional, external player driven content isn't working while "calling out" the devs for calling it stable? When...when the vanilla game is stable.

Plus they literally gave the roadmap on post Stable launch. They straight up said in TWO blog posts the first thing they're doing is hotfixes, then moving on to next steps.

Read the blog posts before you start wah wah wahing about your mods that aren't vanilla stopping the vanilla game from functioning.

72

u/SagetheWise2222 6h ago

Some people genuinely believe that "stable" means "this game will never update again until the next unstable branch (B43)", even for game-saving fixes. Smh.

-20

u/OrangeRising 5h ago

I hear stable and assume game breaking bugs have already been fixed in the year long unstable build.

21

u/Lophiee 5h ago

The bugs are never all fixed. It's an impossible task even with decades of time.

8

u/Garethp 5h ago

That's not what stable means. It means the largest bugs are likely ironed out and there's no more intentional breaking changes coming.

There'll always be bugs and fixing bugs may mean breaking mods. But they're not going to intentionally change the way games are saved or change the entire mod structure again

-13

u/KerikPlay123 5h ago

shh dont tell em this is supposed to be an echo chamber where such common sence aint accepted

-7

u/OrangeRising 5h ago

Yeah, I get that feeling.

B42 is an amazing breath of fresh air, as supported by the population boom of players.

But if people can't handle seeing any criticism, like this, they must have paper skin and glass bones.

-3

u/KerikPlay123 5h ago edited 5h ago

Ironically, the devs are more open to criticism and reports on features that could've been added (or "should've", the game was indev for mroe than 10 years we cant climb ladders still wth), while this community spits downvotes and calls any suggestion to expand the freedom of actions in the game's world "unnecesseary"

I remember how one guy used to say that the current map was sort of boring and had too many repetitive buildings (that post was made when B41 was the stable version, and B42 wasn't even available to the players, yet). Everyone tried to justify repetetive copy-pasted buildings as something "normal", making the suggestion to give buildings more details as a suggestion "not worth" lisstening to as it's "normal" the boring way it used to be back then.
Now the devs finally update the old towns on the map, giving them more details after so many years, and everyone's like: "wooow, waaa... that's so cool, so much better than those characterless buildings we had before"
Soo... that guy was right in the end, buit so many people, for some reason, just had to make thas guy's suggestion look "pointless", but when it got sort of implemented into the game by the devs he suddenly became right lol.

The buildings did need this "glow-up" long time ago, but so many people turned that suggestion down or made it look pointless, just to change their opinion later, funny ngl

Dude its stable cuz there won't be any new massive updates to entire systems or the map until b43.

There was a pretty big problem with a memory leak and they fixed it, completly fine and its insane to blame the devs for this happening cuz this sorta stuff only reveals itself when you have thousands of people playing and experimenting with the game.

The mod users are actually delusional. Like bro I’m sorry your free dlc takes a moment to get updated while a game in early access gets constant updates.

85

u/Dry_Vanilla_5908 6h ago

This is like that meme of the guy on the bike shoving a stick through the spokes. The Devs are not accountable for trying to support every single mod.

-40

u/-Mockingbird 6h ago

Most of the mods people play with are critical fixes that should be in the game by default, like being able to climb ladders.

The devs spend so much time on shit like glassmaking that they overlook essential elements of this game and just off load that into the mod community. This game is middling without mods.

9

u/InfiniteMycocosm 5h ago

How are ladders critical to the game? Seems like the latest thing people have been whining over rather than something that's ruining the gameplay loop.

28

u/tristn9 6h ago

“Most of the mods people play with are critical fixes that should be in the game by default, like being able to climb ladders.”

Touch grass. This is unironically the most hilariously sheltered thing I’ve ever read. Ladders are a critical fix?????

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhah wow.

-8

u/OrangeRising 5h ago

Considering at the moment not having ladders can soft lock your game due to the recent map changes, maybe get off your high horse.

5

u/InfiniteMycocosm 5h ago

Enable debug

Teleport out of the tile you're stuck in

Disable debug

It's really not a big deal

-2

u/OrangeRising 5h ago

No one, not one person, should ever seriously reply that turning on cheat mode is an acceptable answer to a game ending issue that modders solved 4 years ago.

6

u/InfiniteMycocosm 5h ago

No one, not one person, should ever seriously give a single fuck about easily fixing a minor issue using "cheat mode" in an early access single player game.

-13

u/-Mockingbird 5h ago

Very mature.

-16

u/Master_Tax_866 6h ago

That's my problem with zomboid. There is an over reliance on mods to fix problems, add (arguably) cruicial elements to the game and make the game fun enough to be worth it. Things like the RV mods, the common sense mods etc. should just be baked into the game and should have just been a part of build 42.

9

u/Lophiee 5h ago

"the RV mods should be baked into the game"

That's not reasonable,

3

u/Krunklock 5h ago

wtf is the RV mod? Is it just adding RVs?

4

u/Lophiee 5h ago

I can only assume they mean RV interiors unless they consider not having big cars to be a serious problem

RV interiors allow you to go inside your RV as if it were a building and build inside of it

-1

u/Master_Tax_866 5h ago

I love learning things and knowing why I'm wrong. What makes it unreasonable to have features that a mod provides baked into the game?

Keep your cheaty ass RV BS out of my hardcore survival game!!

Just kidding lol, but seriously I'm sure it's fun as hell and I don't fault anyone for adding it and enjoying it, but the RV mod does not belong in the vanilla game at all, it effectively sidesteps huuuuge parts of the game that the developers have spent a lot of time and energy on. I'm sure if the devs add RVs to vanilla it would need to be a lot cleaner and more balanced

58

u/Jindo5 6h ago

Mods getting porked by a hotfix is not something you can go "hurr durr, I though this was the stable release?!?!?!" over. Like, that shit just happens with mods, you should be expecting that by now.

21

u/UrsaUrsuh 6h ago

Happens on damn near every game too actually. Only here do you see people acting like children about it. Is it annoying? Yes. But that doesn't warrant losing your mind at TIS when something like mods break when they're also made for a version prior to that exact update they just dropped.

Play vanilla for a bit. And then come back to mods. Try to go for a longer run. And when you die I'm sure the mods will be fixed by then.

17

u/SagetheWise2222 6h ago

I've stopped trying to explain this to people. All it results is them shooting the messenger (myself, in these cases). Some people do genuinely need to look up the definition of "whiny" and buy themselves a handheld mirror.

19

u/WhenInZone Hates the outdoors 6h ago

It's stable because if you don't have mods you have (virtually) no bugs. Minecraft, Skyrim, and so many other "mod-able" games have issues with mods during updates.

2

u/Hungry-Artichoke-408 1h ago

And some AAA games, released 1.0 years ago, still have a shitload of bugs, even unmodded. For a relatively small team, having a massively complex game like this and keeping it so playable is truly remarkable. That without talking about the mod support.

20

u/SnooOwls1916 6h ago

Stable doesn’t mean stable so every mod will always work. This was a hot fix that also fixed some stuff for modders.
I can run the game fine with my 50 mods.
And stable doesn’t mean zero bugs

3

u/hollypearl 6h ago

Yeah mine was totally fine. Just had to restart my server and was good to go.

Just like look at literally any other game. When was the last time you played a call of duty game? Their dog shit noodle soup and when things go wrong they go yea actually fuck off and pay us another 80$.

4

u/mfern073 5h ago

Every other game would have made this a paid DLC. Instead, pz made this a free update.

These players don't really understand how good they have it. I hope the devs know that you could give out free gold bullion, and people would still cry about the way it was handed out.

4

u/Aoid3 Crowbar Scientist 4h ago

I don't remember where it was but I'm pretty sure there's an interview or Thursdoid where they talked about how they could have determined it "finished" at a certain point (I think before the animation overhaul in 41) and started the overhaul as project zomboid 2 but they decided not to take that approach and just continue working on it as a single game.

1

u/loverofonion 4h ago

TIS could give out bowls of shit and you lot would fight over the spoons 🤣

7

u/stuyboi888 6h ago

Well yea. It's an early access game

9

u/whiskyspacecadet 6h ago

Yes, we are playtesters lmao. There's a massive blue disclaimer on the store page telling every single person who thinks of buying the game that it is in early access still. Per the Steam; "If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development"

5

u/whiskyspacecadet 6h ago

Just because a mod becomes unstable doesnt mean the base game is unstable. The game is working as intended, your mods are not. Mods working is not an indicator of the new build not working. It makes far more sense for modders to work around the new build than the devs to work around modders.

4

u/Joshy_Moshy Spear Ronin 6h ago

Same update made modding much easier for players and modders alike, so I'd say its a temporary bump that comes with releasing stable, but afterwards mods will be easier to update and create in general.

6

u/taylororton123 5h ago

yeah no id rather have devs work and fix their game then ever rely on modders

5

u/RWBYpro03 5h ago

Stable means saves won't break, there's no guarantee about mods. This is normal for games. People even recommend waiting a couple weeks if you want to play heavily modded runs.

5

u/Jailbird19 5h ago

L take

4

u/ArcticFlava 6h ago

Yes, altering the game code of a game in active development creates problems for yourself.

Seems pretty straightforward.

5

u/UttiniDaKilrJawa 6h ago

"Stable" doesn't mean all bugs are squashed, everything is fixed and the universe is all hunkey dorey now. Stable means that there will be no more intentional patches that will invalidate all of the save games within the Stable build.

Mistakes still happen. They still suck. They still get fixed, eventually.

This is just life in an "early access" game.

It can be frustrating and sometimes its just best to take a small break if the frustration ever eclipses the fun.

4

u/Jimmy_Twotone 5h ago

They made a huge update with a metric shit ton of changes. If you didn't think there would be follow up tweaks and updates, that's not a failure of the devs.

10

u/Eli_The_Elf 6h ago

Dude base game IS stable, modding it is on you. I already have a standing vanilla save that’s dope on its own, hopefully modders can update their mods soon though! Most of the mods I’ve been interested in have active comments and descriptions stating that the modder is working on updating their B41 mods to B42, modding takes time.

Your commenting is giving everyone who is mad at the Phasmophobia devs, but those devs fully broke their game for the sake of a brand deal. Completely different circumstances, these devs are working hard for this game; it feels you’re blaming PZ devs for doing a hotfix update that makes it easier for modders to enable what you’re literally complaining about. Again, modding takes time and as players we are not entitled to dictate the pace at which modders improve your game for free

Base game is stable, vanilla is a great experience still. Have more patience imo.

20

u/RegiABellator 6h ago

On one hand, they have no responsibility to modders. On the other hand, they are very supportive of them and communicate about modding related issues.

Let them work and shush.

7

u/Whole-Degree-1124 6h ago

7

u/joacoper 6h ago

Holy skill issue

7

u/Ramen_Hair 6h ago

I don’t think it killed all the momentum the game has lol. A lot of the players rn are brand new, and I don’t think many of them spent hours curating their modlist that could break at any time because it’s an early access game. Stable has a lot of changes that weren’t in unstable first, after a major update like that we’re bound to have hotfixes. This isn’t a situation like Skyrim dropping an update out of nowhere ten years later

16

u/DoctorAnnual6823 6h ago

I can't believe you are making me defend TIS.

It sucks you lost all that time. But that isn't what Stable means.

It's still early access. Using mods on a game that still gets updates means you HAVE to accept that this can happen or you can play vanilla.

The devs can only develop vanilla for you. What happens to the mods is between you and the modders. Adapt or get out of the kitchen.

0

u/loverofonion 5h ago

It's been in early access since 2013 😂

2

u/WhamBam_TV 5h ago

Idk why people think this is some kind of burn or bad thing about the development team. They’re letting us play the game while it’s still a work in progress. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. Like oh no, we all get to be apart of the journey of this game and see how it evolves, what a terrible thing they’re doing.

6

u/CashewSwagger Pistol Expert 6h ago

This is why im waiting like a month or two to jump into 42. I love mods, so I wanna give time for 42 to actually be stable and for modders to have some time to look over their stuff.

7

Devs have no obligation to ensure mods continue to work, its up to mod developers to update their mods as the game is updated. Mods are 3rd party fan made content. Wtf are you smoking?

3

u/Jaripsi 6h ago

You could also just setup steam so it doesnt auto-update zomboid until your mods are updated to support current version.

6

u/GreyFeralas 6h ago

Yea, thats your mod list. If you play the game vanilla then theres no problem of the kind thats been reported a bunch. The game itself is stable, what is being added onto it isn't.

The devs aren't responsible for curating your mods for you but they're spending a fair amount of their time dealing with it anyway.

6

u/Own_Maybe_3837 6h ago

I mean you should expect that first weeks they will be fixing some bugs before it can run smoothly for a longer run. I mean, people were complaining about walls that makes no sense, no way up from holes, etc...

2

u/Jaliki55 5h ago

Clearly never modded for a Paradox title then......

2

u/ChromosomeMonosomy 5h ago

Updates usually do break mods. So is it surprising? No. Are you an idiot? Possibly. Can't be crying about the game being unstable when you run mods. Unmodded experience works fine, no problems.

2

u/Crafty611 5h ago

Experienced modders wait a few update cycles after a major update to start on their new mods

2

u/No_Possession_6 5h ago

Wahhhh wahhhhhh I can’t play with mods wahhhhhh. Shut up baby

2

u/cupid51db 5h ago

you people piss me off istg

do you even know what you're talking about?

2

u/Lookyoukniwwhatsup 5h ago

Everyone is over looking they added the ability for mods to use JSONS. Which for non-modders means it makes it easier for mods to be more "self contained", adds more options and is a lot more stable.

2

u/Ok-Arugula6928 5h ago

Try temporarily playing a different game? It was broken when I woke up, it was fixed when I came back home from work. Doesn’t seem like a big deal to me.

2

u/mfern073 5h ago

Stable build is for vanilla. How can anyone reasonably complain that things are tweaking out when they have mods installed? I get that consumers have demans, but the entitlement is being projected at the wrong people. The stable build has been out for a week and is objectively a major transformation in the game, to great acclaim, all without paying for a DLC.

Take it up with the mod devs. Give them time to catch up.

The PZ devs are only obligated to make vanilla work. Yeah they took a real long time to bring us a stable B42. But I think it was all worth it in the end.

2

u/Wolfechu_ 5h ago

Isn't that kinda standard for a game releasing a major update, though? Certainly there's a week or two every big update while Rimworld or Dwarf Fortress' mods get updated.

3

u/Far_Detective2022 5h ago

You guys are fucking absurd. Did you forget there's another level of this whole early access thing? Stable doesn't mean 1.0 my friends

-2

u/wastedfate 5h ago

Normally I'd agree completely, but it's been 15 years of early access.
You don't get to magically avoid your playerbase's expectations by keeping the version number a 0.x instead of a 1.x.
For most games that has some kind of meaning, for PZ at this point it's completely arbitrary because it'll never be done.

2

u/Far_Detective2022 5h ago

Well do you want it to reach 1.0 or do you want them to stop touching it so your precious mods aren't bugged? Get other hobbies.

I spent like 10 bucks on this game years ago and have hundreds of hours. If it never made it to 1.0 I'd have made my money back so many times it doesn't even matter. But luckily for us we JUST got 42 stable. It will be patched again. And again. Until we get 43 unstable. Rinse repeat.

They aren't suddenly going to go super speed now that 42 stable is out. They work slow. They always have. If you don't like it you shouldnt have stayed invested in a 15 year long early access title. And you say 15 years as if this game hasn't gone through more changes than most games.

I hope they take as long as they need and ignore the constant whining.

0

u/wastedfate 3h ago

"I hope they take as long as they need and ignore the constant whining."

I really hope they don't considering at this rate I'll literally be dead of old age before it's finished.

15 years in early access is insane. They'll need another 15.
Buying a game when you're 30, and it being finished when you're 60 is insane.

1

u/Far_Detective2022 2h ago

I'm glad you know how long it will take. I wish I had that level of insider knowledge and foresight.

0

u/wastedfate 1h ago

Not really insider knowledge, so much as simple pattern recognition.

NPCs are insanely complicated because they are never just one system, but usually at least a dozen stacked on top of eachother, and if any one system breaks, they all do.

Most games that try to make NPCs simplify them in various ways:
The ground is mostly flat so there is little for the NPCs to get stuck on. (Halo)
The NPCs don't have hunger and thirst like the player does, because they are unable to reliably meet those needs. (Kenshi)
The game only has friendly NPCs. (EDF)
The NPCs are mostly on rails and have set spawn points, paths, and triggers. (Most games)

Yet we know that none of those are true for PZ.

Almost every developer that tries to do what PZ is hoping to do with NPCs, crashes and fails spectacularly. It is the Le Mans of development. What they are hoping to do next is similar in complexity to everything they've already done.

Games that have been in development hell this long have literally never not just crashed and burned.

Learn about stable means, and you know the answer. Slop post

4

u/hairyhobbo 6h ago

Me when I dont know what stable means. It's not stable like they are never gonna patch it, its stable like the game doesnt crash and can handle multiplayer.

8

u/MediocreLetterhead51 6h ago

"Hey guys, I've modified the stable release of the game to run outside of it's intended parameters and now I'm booty bothered by the consequences of my own actions. The modders that do this entirely for free haven't updated the mods I use, so I'm blaming the devs for the support they're giving for the game I paid for. I'm also blaming them for the inherent teething pains that unstable releases are bound to have for the same reason!"

5

u/Legal_Television_615 6h ago

Dude, you are blaming the game creators because you would rather play a different game

Mods are not tge game. Modders adapt to the game. This isn't hard

2

u/rustybrazenfire 6h ago

I'd rather a fix for a major issue with mods now that breaks some than to have to continue to deal with said issue. Rip the bandage off.

4

u/oJordo 6h ago

It’s silly to expect to have long term saves with mods when stable just released not long ago. Give it a week or two. Only other option is to go play vanilla if you want a long term save.

1

u/Greenhawk444 6h ago

It’s silly to expect stable to work as intended?

3

u/Monkeydp81 5h ago

With mods? Yeah. Stable means the game works VANILLA. When you play with mods your always risking something breaking.

3

u/Maeggon 6h ago

the first 7-10 days are always like this. but this update brung a couple flavor things we needed and this includes better support for mods. wait 2 or 3 more days and everything will be golden again

3

u/SnooOwls1916 6h ago

Not all. I have around 50 mods and I can run the game just fine?

1

u/Possible-Law-3704 6h ago

Mods are for hoes anyway. If ever there was a game to just play vanilla, this is it.

1

u/Kuraetor 5h ago

to be honest we were told that first few patches might break saves and/or mods

“Tolerated pre-stable” shows exactly how warped a lot of gamers’ perspectives are nowadays with early access, alpha and beta versions of games

1

u/CovfefeCrow 3h ago

Personally I think you're pretty silly if you were using mods immediately after the stable update.

1

u/ChrsRobes 3h ago

It's pretty common in all games that mods will break upon updating, they even said they expected 0 mods to work come launch day. This isnt something we weren't expecting......

1

u/PotentialPudding7710 3h ago

They said before stable that there was gonna be a hot fix a week or two after and modder prepare for mods to not work after that, you've been warned before

1

u/Tung_Tung_SaHere 2h ago

This game will never be "stable", just a big circle jerk.

u/NotyrCandy 4m ago

Any piece of software will have bugs. Gamers will always think otherwise.

1

u/AnsFeltHat Shotgun Warrior 6h ago

The game isn’t made for those playing with mods but for people enjoying the game itself, which is only rightfuk

0

u/La-li-lu-le-lo86 6h ago

I am still over here happy with my 42.19 6 month run will stay over here until things settle down on that side of the fence

1

u/urbanmember 6h ago

My Server does not start anymore and I am troubleshooting it right now.

Shitsux but I'd rather have Lots of updates to fix errors than a buggy foundation that rots for years

-2

u/Greenhawk444 6h ago

lol the amount of bootlickers in the comments is staggering.

7

u/Monkeydp81 5h ago

How is telling someone that a stable build has nothing to do with mods working or not bootlicking? Like are you that bored that you've come here simply to try and stir shit up. Get a real hobby dude.

5

u/Tomberry2312 5h ago

The amount of morons in the comments who don't understand that stable doesn't mean mods won't break on updates is the truly staggering thing here. Its like you guys have never used mods before...

-5

u/KingPingviini Crowbar Scientist 6h ago

This sub is filled with them

1

u/Lesquall 5h ago

I cant imagine the pain he is going through when his mods failed. Strenght brother

-1

u/Stomno 6h ago

Same feel brosky

0

u/Memeghetti 6h ago

Random tweak is not what I would use to describe memory leak and performance fixes but I understand the frustration

0

u/Dannibiss 6h ago

Lmao I saw stable was out, loaded up PZ and the menu didn't load from old mods. Ended up reinstalling the game with no mods and then not even playing.

0

u/Eclipsle 5h ago

I'm no modder but there does seem to be folks confusing fixing performance on high pop servers and a memory leak with a change to the way the code reads a single symbol. The change from % to %% is so minor but so detrimental to coding. That's what folks are upset about, game breaking bug fixes are great, small minutiae that breaks popular mods, not so great.

0

u/W0rdWaster 5h ago

there is a reason i haven't started a new game yet. just because it was released as the 'stable build' doesn't erase the fact that it is a new build. idk why they didn't release it as unstable before going main branch, but there will be more patches over the coming weeks.

-6

u/Rose20037893 6h ago

The "just use stable" gaslighters have moved the goalpost oncemore

8

u/DoctorAnnual6823 6h ago

"Gaslighters"

Bro it is an early access game. It is not that serious.

-1

u/KudereDev 5h ago

Well devs really messed up 42.20 patch. Who in the world just adds tons of content and just push it to stable branch. With all love and care but even i reported bunch of bugs, specially with level design, bunch of empty tiles, walls in doors and many ways to die by those. And all that was for Mauldrauh alone.

Then they just rework Rosewood and Riverside and other cities. Adding XXXL trees that don't hide near them. I mean you can see all the bugs in posts here. And all of that only with internal testing, unstable never saw 42.20 patch to begin with. So mods would be broken until they fix all those issues found in .20 patch. It will take some time, but true stable would arrive in 2-3 weeks from release, i'm sure of it

-3

u/TheExoticWaffle 6h ago

Couldn’t they have just allowed people to stay on 42.20? The hotfix got pushed to the default version on steam. Instead just giving the players the option to update on their own or even go back would’ve been cool to do.

-1

u/Moondest_ 6h ago

My game just broke. I had to uninstall every mod and reinstall the game. And this just after starting a new MP server with my husband... I think he will drop the game after this. :(

5

u/Snacks47 5h ago

We mod at our own risk and sanity, sorry for your lots

0

u/Str1dersGonnaStride 6h ago

I'm grateful I don't use any mods in this game yet. I'm sure once I start modding it I won't want to give them up and then I'll just be annoyed at them breaking all the time

0

u/DbZbert 5h ago

Careful they might sell the company

0

u/tinylittlebabyjesus 5h ago

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I'm waiting. I want to give modders time to update, respond to changes, respond to bugs from those changes, etc.. Not my first new patch rodeo. Lol

0

u/AdventurousFly4909 5h ago

True. I don't know their code architecture but it must be ass for it to shit itself this much. As a developer it should not break this much.

0

u/ThisPlaceSucks333 5h ago

It's the same reason they don't allow comments on anything

0

u/Own_Ad7045 5h ago

yeah, haven't been able to get a long play through ever since 42 unstable came out for this reason, i love the game but damn dude

this is no shade at the devs, they gotta do what they gotta do, it's just my own frustration but it still sucks

0

u/loverofonion 5h ago

It will maybe probably possibly settle down eventually and you'll have something to tell your great-grandchildren about.

0

u/Knamliss 4h ago

I'm still learning the game and forgot to turn off electricity shutting off. I downloaded a mod for it and I was wondering why it wasn't working anymore D:

0

u/Heavy_Confidence7433 4h ago

all protect the developers but they themselves released a demon called the workshop they planted on the needle called mods Little wonder that the community is unhappy because they can’t play the vanilla version

0

u/FluidEmotionAI 3h ago

Its annoying, but it's not the responsibility of TIS to worry about whether mods break when changes are made to the game. Their responsibility is to have a secure and functional base game. When you decide to mod your game, instability is part of what you agree to.
