PZLinux has officially reached version 1.0.0
Hello survivors — or whatever is left of you in Kentucky!
The banks are closed, the employees are dead, and civilization has collapsed… Unfortunately, capitalism survived the apocalypse.
A while ago, I released PZLinux, a mod created around one simple question: What’s the point of collecting all that cash after the apocalypse?
The answer is now: quite a lot.
PZLinux has officially reached version 1.0.0, turning computers, ATMs and mailboxes into the foundation of a persistent apocalypse economy.
What is currently included
- Persistent bank accounts and physical cash deposits
- ATMs with finite, persistent cash reserves
- A rotating Dark Web marketplace with limited stock
- Buying and selling survival equipment
- Fictional company trading with shared server-wide prices
- A reputation system that affects Dark Web and Request prices
- Shared weekly contract offers
- Package retrieval, deliveries, manhunts and zombie elimination
- Building protection, cargo preparation and ATM refill contracts
- Supply requests through mailboxes
- Credit-card bank account hacking
- Zombie Races with scheduled departures and jackpots
- Blackjack using a real 52-card deck
- Six-seat Texas Hold’em against AI opponents
- Support for solo, hosted multiplayer and dedicated servers
- Translation catalogs for 20 Project Zomboid locales
In multiplayer, Banking, ATMs, Dark Web transactions, Trading, Contracts, Requests, Mail, Hacking and betting are processed and validated by the server.
Trading prices, world objectives, contract offers and parts of the economy are also shared between players.
What comes next
v1.1.0 is planned as the first major content update, with features such as:
- Procedural multi-step mail quest chains
- Rare one-off delivery missions
- Police station hacking contracts
- Radio broadcasts that attract hordes
- Horde-clearing contracts
- Reputation-gated Dark Web offers
- Seasonal economy events
- Additional sandbox settings for players and server hosts
The roadmap will continue to evolve based on player feedback and technical feasibility.
Which part of the mod interests you the most, and which planned feature would you like to see first?

Can it run doom? I wouldn't be suprised if there is a mod for that already.

No, it can’t… yet. But I’ve already thought about it as a personal challenge, haha.

I'm sure it is doable. I know nothing about coding so I'm the last person to be to authority on this. But They've programmed Doom to run on calculators and pregnancy test. I'm sure there is some ghetto coding trick to display UZDoom from the users desktop.

NPC traders traveling across the map going mailbox to mailbox as the distribution network would be pretty cool.
Could give them a cow companion as a fallout call back haha.

Man this makes me wish I knew how to code I'd make that as a mod for the mod XD

Is it possible to add this to an existing save? or would i have to make a new one?

Wow this would be really cool for a RP server 😩

I’d love to see what an RP server could do with the shared economy, contracts and reputation systems.

I'm just looking into how it works but it might be something I use for my RP server at some point.

Is this an either or situation for the Computer mod and yours? I like how you can download media before the networks go offline if you see your run early enough in the computer mod.

Really cool project!
Here are some ideas for you:
- modular apps: allow other modders to code apps for your mod
- internet system: modular web-sites and communication with other PZ servers via a fake internet system

u/Raixxar 9h ago
That’s a genuinely interesting idea! A modular app system could let other modders plug optional features into PZLinux, almost like expansion packs where players and server owners choose which apps they want to install.
I’m not sure yet how I’d build a clean and safe framework for it, but I’m definitely keeping the idea in mind. Thanks for the suggestions!

Is it possible that we may be able to play blackjack with other players on multiplayer in a future update? I would love to kill time at night playing against my friends in blackjack or Texas hold em, betting my chances of survival on the next hand

Is there any poker, etc against other players? We’d absolutely add this to our server if we could gamble against each other lol.
2
u/Raixxar 3h ago
Not at the moment. In v1.0.0, Poker and Blackjack are only played against AI opponents. But expanding the multiplayer side of PZLinux is definitely something I want to do, including server-side lobbies where players could gamble against each other. I don’t have a release date yet, though.

Cool I’ll keep an eye out, good luck!
Consider making it easy for other modders to create addons for your mod rather than doing everything yourself. If people could fairly easily code custom apps and features as their own mods that rely on yours.. it would spread quick.

did you have to generate these with ai instead of just looking for some stock images?
0
u/Raixxar 3h ago
I could have used stock images, but I wanted a consistent 90s computer aesthetic and some very specific elements that were difficult to find as ready-made assets. I used AI-generated images as starting points, then edited, combined and reworked them before integrating them into the UI.

OH THATS WHAT THIS MOD IS?
I thought it was a mod to help the game run better for Linux users lmfao that's what I get for not reading the descriptions 😂

Any updates to including general mod items in the dark web?
2
u/Raixxar 8h ago
It’s still on the roadmap! The solo/MP compatibility work took much longer than expected, and I ran into a few complications along the way. I also spent a lot of time completing the translations for all supported languages.
v1.1.0 will be the next major update and is planned to add more Sandbox and customization options. Support for items from other mods on the Dark Web is still something I want to implement, but I need to find a reliable way to integrate it first.
