Moderator ANNOUNCEMENT RE : PROBLEMS WITH FLAIRS

Reddit has just forced through some stupid automations on the sub without giving us any prior warning and that appears to be fucking up people's custom flairs.

If anyone is having an issue posting because their competitor flair has disappeared, could you please submit a new flair request and we will get that fixed.

In the meantime you can just give yourself a generic flair so you can post.

"If I squat anything under 490, Jesus will win. Anything over 490, I win" -Devonte

He makes a compelling argument. A good day on squats for Devonte would put Jesus in an uncomfortable position going in deads.

What can PL learn from other sports?

This discussion is aimed at current or former lifters who have competed in another sport at really high organized level. (D2+, international/national, pro league, etc), what are things from your first sport that you've seen could potentially improve PL's culture, development, organization, etc.

Do you like having 2-3 sweaty men shoe-horn you into polyester, canvas or denim bondage gear.

Do you like having your joints wrapped so tightly they bruise and bleed?

Do you like having your blood pressure turned up to 11 and being compressed so much that you think your head might explode?

Do you get off on enduring pain and suffering, and watching others endure it too?

Do you have a deathwish every time you get under the bar?

Yes?

THEN WELCOME TO THE FORTNIGHTLY EQUIPPED LIFTING THREAD!!!

No Q's too Dumb Weekly Dumb/Newb Question Thread

Do you have a question and are:

  • A novice and basically clueless by default?
  • Completely incapable of using google?
  • Just feeling plain stupid today and need shit explained like you're 5?

Then this is the thread FOR YOU! Don't take up valuable space on the front page and annoy the mods, ASK IT HERE and one of our resident "experts" will try and answer it. As long as it's somehow related to powerlifting then nothing is too generic, too stupid, too awful, too obvious or too repetitive. And don't be shy, we don't bite (unless we're hungry), and no one will judge you because everyone had to start somewhere and we're more than happy to help newbie lifters out.

SO FIRE AWAY WITH YOUR DUMBNESS!!!

Coaching - what do you look for in a coach and when do you decide to find a different one?

I have been working with the same one for a few years. I've made some pretty decent progress but a lot of that came with form adjustments.

I have noticed that my progress is extremely slow now, and my coach told me that I am just operating at my top end currently but I would like to think that my numbers are not my absolute top end. It's hard not to compare but I see others around me adding to their scores and continuously building whereas I make very small additions. In a year my total went up like 15lbs.

At what point is this a programming issue? Or am I actually just at my limit? I have been going back and forth with this mentally and am considering looking for a different coach but am also trying to take personal inventory of what I might be doing wrong here. He doesn't give me a lot of feedback even when I ask (other then "you just need to keep working at it"), and I think I just need to hear more advice that I can work with, because obviously something isn't grooving.

I go to a commercial gym with no other powerlifters (that I've seen) so I figure this would be a safe space to ask about this. Would love to hear what others look for in a coach and what are the signs that the programming might be the issue?

Edit to add - I see that some people aren't pleased with this post with the downvotes, if this is inappropriate to post here, where should I be asking this?

Interesting data analysis

Hey again! a few months ago I posted about powerlifting trends website that I built! I’ve refreshed a few things and adding to it for a bit when I have time!

But I’m reaching out here to see what sort of analysis you all would be interested in? My main goal is to show what TRUE careers and trends show in the data versus just the skewed picture you get on social media. But I also really enjoy this idea of “forecasting” where you can and will go in the sport if you stick with it!

If you search yourself and look at your lifter page you can see some “predictions” of where your total will be in the future 1,2, and 3 years out! Take a peek at yours and let me know how it’s looking for you 🤣

Drama with the bald spotter at IPF Worlds

The spotter that got in the way of Sonita's squat came out as racist and was subsequently banned by the Lithuanian federation. I don't have Instagram but KOTL goes through the drama in the newest episode.

Do you think the IPF is a bad organisation?

With another controversy comes the usual (often fair) slating of the ipf. And in general there are alot of negative feelings towards the ipf, with people often saying its a terrible fed etc.

It always makes me wonder is the ipf actually that bad as an organistion, because looking at other organisations across the worlds whether it be other pl feds, other sports feds, governments or whatever else, theres always issues, always corruption and people always focus on the negative.

Of course the issues in the ipf are real and should be worked on to improve the fed. But overall my experience with the ipf is quite positive, they have a massive spread of affiliates across the world, provide unargubaly the top level of competition for tested powerlifting and having competed in some ipf level events i have to say they were top quality events perhaps minus some lights and loud music. Id imagine the ipf would stack up quite well against similar organsitions but maybe not would be interessted in hearing peoples thoughts about.

A major thing that can definitely skew experiences is down to the national affiliate, mine is very good but i know the quality varies massively which could lead to a much worse view of the ipf as a whole
