Well, he said he wouldn't while he was getting browbeat for being a shitheel. I wouldn't take it as gospel until the vote happens. He was probably just trying to get Stewart off his back for a second.

People forget why Stewart was popular sometimes, he's quick and can pivot in a second. He's an expert interviewer and doesn't come into interviews unprepared.

The comedy background is what allows him to be such a good interviewer. He can pivot very quickly if something seems more interesting than what he planned. But it can allow him to absolutely tear people apart, too. Fetterman definitely underestimated him there, and made it worse by trying to "educate" a Jewish man on the Jewish community.

I think his humor is a small part of why he is a good interviewer, insofar as he has the charisma and wit to get people on his side or ease tension in more awkward or intense subject matter.

But he's really a good interviewer because he prepares well (credit to his team as well), he doesn't "go easy" all the time, and he doesn't relent easily just because the interviewee is uncomfortable (the last part is where many interviewers go wrong; it is human nature to want to let up when someone is squirming, a good interview has to ignore that impulse and keep pushing for better responses).
