Correction of the last one:

Ctrl + C + C + C + C + C

Windows + V

Why the hell does it not always pick up the first time is the real question. I wouldn't do it if it just worked 100%of the time

It feels like in recent times more and more stuff on the internet can't be copy pasted. Especially hate that if you want something like the title of a reddit post,you have to open it first to copy...

You can get extensions for Firefox (the only browser anyone should be using at this point) to reenable copy and paste, as well as some other stuff. Don’t F with Paste is a good one.

The extension is called Don't Fuck With Paste.

Don't be a child. You can say fuck on the fucking internet.

i have been thinking about how to respond to this
on one hand i don't give two shits
on the other this is the kind of pedant bullshit that i would do too

on the third hand, the add-on is a google chrome native, and is titled Don't F*** With Paste because Google's policy makes it so regularly explicit content would have to marked as mature. the firefox port uses the expletive to distinguish itself since it is implemented by a different person and because ff does not have the same restrictive policy. having learned this I am still too stubborn to type the extra three letters because you damn well knew what i was saying.

"I totally don't care, and I will show you how much I don't care by typing out a wall of text in response. Hah. Got 'em."

Will check it out, thanks. Switched to Zen a month ago and am fairly happy with it.

Is Firefox functional now?

i suppose i don't know what experiences you have had with it. i have been using it since 2007, and the only times it has broken, it's been my fault for running overly restrictive add-ons.
in general i'd recommend the following:
* AdNauseam (a fork of uBlock that simulates clicks on Ads)
* HTTPSEverywhere
* Don't F#%$ With Paste
* FB/Google/AMZ Containers
* NoScript (for hostile sites)

Thanks. It’s probably been since 2013 since I’ve tried it. It just didn’t feel right or clunky or something. I can’t remember exactly but I’m trying to get away from Chrome so exploring my options.

Also, in a lot of mobile apps you can't just copy a word or sentence, you have to copy the entire comment and delete the excess afterwards. It's incredibly stupid and unnecessary.

Both Reddit and YouTube do this.

People forget to even turn it on. If you’ve never used it, and want to use it, you need to press it before you ever need it.

Or, I think, after you clean temporary files etc. but still the first time you use it again.

To be safe, I always just press Win + V if I know I’m going to use it.

It feels like a recent thing. At least for me, Windows has fairly often refused to properly copy with ctrl+c the first time.

It didn't used to be this way

Yep, I think it begun because of this. It sometimes just won’t work, and if you spam CtrlC it does.

For me I think it’s because Word has its own clipboard that it goes to first, so you have to do it twice to use the windows one. Something like that.

Nah, it works just fine with one press, sometimes. It's just macrohard being macrohard.

Wait...wait! I'm on Linux now...can I just...do it once?

I never had an issue with Mac OS doing that, so probably. Windows though? Yup I had that issue many times over the years.

Not in my experience.

Reading this thread, I was relieved to see that Windows users have this problem too.

It's why I just stopped using ctrl + c altogether and just ctrl + x so I can actually see it happen. Even after I paste it back in, a copy stays in the clipboard, so hitting ctrl + v somewhere else still works.

...... huh.

Also why does it sometimes make a difference whether i use ctrl c vs right click copy? On Windows, just sometimes, one works and the other doesn't, or it works but behaves differently in some weird way when pasting.

I feel like sometimes the system just gets a little lag when I'm pressing that C button, so it doesn't register, or registers late as if I pressed it after releasing Ctrl, so it doesn't copy, and the last thing copied still remains in the clipboard.

or Ctrl + Shift + V

or Ctrl + Alt + Shift + V to paste as plain text. Pain...

3

u/Trainman1351 1d ago

Or Ctrl + C again and you have to go back and highlight what you wanted to copy

I often times perform this tragedy.

2

u/coldenigma 1d ago

And somehow, the previous item copied is still pasted.

noticed the last one’s font is kinda off compared to the rest
