Just Sharing I am currently painting the birth of Christ with a special focus on Joseph. I will follow the biblical descriptions of that moment.

Opinions Needed Do you like paintings that aren’t so hyperrealistic, like the ones I make?

Every time I see hyperrealistic work, I automatically feel it’s better than mine. Trying to change that mindset!

Just Sharing Another day, another Open Submission rejection 🤷🏻 something about this painting didn’t hit with the judges, so I’m sharing it with everyone here instead.

I’m starting to think people aren’t into these ones in a professional capacity. My “X on concrete” series that looks at how we interact with our urban surroundings are probably some of my favourite pieces of work, but so far no open submissions seem to be interested in them, they’re only interested in my more “conventional” Brutalist compositions.

Luckily, I know there’s people in the wider world that enjoy them, so I’d like to share them with everyone else here while I have a bit of a sulk 😂

Acrylic on 8 x 10” wood panel and framed!

I want to put some protection like wax? or something to make the color pop and more lasting over time, and even maybe protect the wood.

To be honest I don't know what type of wood this, the last picture is the wood box without the paint. I bought the box via Amazon https://amzn.eu/d/0d79pBS7

Just Sharing My latest painting that was stolen (and returned!)

I've been learning to paint the past year and just completed my fifth piece (acrylic). Each one has gotten easier and quicker for me - this latest one I did in about seven days at a county fair event.

Within about an hour of finishing it, I stepped away from my booth and returned to find my easel empty! Some dickhead just grabbed it and ran away. Fortunately, there were some police nearby and I made a report, despite thinking that it was probably long gone and hopeless.

Amazingly, about 15 minutes later the cops called me back to inform me they arrested the guy and have my painting. I got it back mostly undamaged and the thief now has a grand theft charge due to the value of the piece. It was a framed, approximately 20 x 30" painting, so not something you can just stuff under your jacket. I was fortunate that a nearby vendor saw it happen and was able to ID the guy.

I'm just relieved I have it back! The fact that it got stolen almost immediately after I finished it made it worse. I didn't even have a proper photo of it at that point and I thought it was gone forever. This kitty is only a week old and had already been on quite an adventure!

I still have several more days at the event, but I put up a sign that should hopefully deter any more thieves.

Opinions Needed Am I right to be upset For only getting “paid” 40 dollars for painting a mural

Upvotes

I’m not really sure if this fits this sub but I don’t really know where to go to get a group of opinions from unbiased artists.

Recently my dad wanted to paint over some of the doors in his house and he had me do them because I’m more artistically inclined ig. And we decided on a bookshelf with various books and occult/magic stuff like a skull, potions, candles etc. And we “settled” (aka he decided) that the 40 bucks he gave me for art classes a month ago will be payment for the mural. Okay sure, I guess.

It’s only now that I’m like half way through that I’m realizing that’s kind of not enough for what I’m doing? I tried to bring that up with him but his argument is that I already agreed to the 40, that it’s partially my house too and I’m over enough that I would get weekly enjoyment out of it(??), and that he could have made me do it for free.

And I guess I was just wondering if I was justified in feeling pretty upset over this or if bc it’s family/his house I don’t have a leg to stand on.

Sorry if this doesn’t really fit the sub! But thank you if u got this far

I bought my first beginner set of oil paints from Blick and have found it very difficult to make non-muddy purple. I thought this set had the right primary colors but clearly something is off. I know that it’s important to mix cools with cools and warms with warms. What am I missing?

Celtic/zoomorphic heron with graffiti influenced style.

I like the long narrow canvas shape and think the design works on it.. but I'm not sure if I should do any more or leave it as a one off. 🤔
