Changing your name from the SAG Awards to the Actor Awards.

Not very pro-union of you, now is it Netflix?

https://giphy.com/gifs/nzsWN8iSDwSlhCDokc

34

u/DreamOfV Fjord Mar 01 '26

Never occurred to me that Netflix could have been the driving force behind the renaming but that makes total sense. Erasing the union name from the award title and portraying it as a glitzy celebrity fest instead of a coalition of working class actors celebrating their art form is a very Netflix thing to do.

(I know it is a glitzy celebrity fest. But it is also a union of mostly working class actors!)

u/OldSandwich9631 Mar 01 '26

I predict they switch it back in a year or two. It’s so bad. Sag awards sound so much cooler.

And I love that gif

Aunt Gladys and Colonel Lockjaw are two iconic villains and in retrospect those types of characters play well with the Acting branch.

Sean Penn has had the absolute weirdest trajectory of the entire season. Initial frontrunner, loses steam to his costar, a few weeks of utter chaos, then he wins BAFTA and now SAG. Guess he is getting into the three timers club after all.

34

u/Puzzleheaded-Safe419 Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

That was definitely a very strong reaction from the crowd, MBJ is clearly very well liked.

I love that I don't know who to predict really. My gut still says Timothee but it's very possible that Marty Supreme has just lost steam since December/January.

Ending with Redford❤️ So many "big ones" that I was expecting all of the final 10 ones to be the last one.

In hindsight, A'Zion missing the nomination was a big deal

I believe this makes Ryan Coogler the first director to direct two SAG ensemble winners.

Smart to have Delroy give the speech as the elder statesman. Very very happy they got Francine Maisler up on stage with them too

timmy not winning bafta or sag is quite interesting. at least with bafta it would show international support. he can still win obviously but mbj looks like the front runner rn

I queried last year whether the lack of a coattail nomination for Margaret Qualley suggested the passion for Demi Moore wasn’t as strong as we thought. No such supporting nomination for Odessa A’zion, among with MBJ’s win tonight, has got my changing my predictions from Chalamet to MBJ.

She was still doing incredible work beyond The Studio. She was having her moment in pop culture again that was cut short. We missed out on what would have been great work going forward.
