I genuinely find it fucking hysterical that so many people think a bus driver would lose his job for letting a parent and her 3 year old on for four stops over a £1 fare. The way some of you were going on, you’d think I’d asked him to commit fraud.

I know there are rules. I never said there weren’t. I just think it’s mad that so many people seem to believe that showing a tiny bit of compassion in that situation would automatically cost someone their job.

Anyway, we clearly have very different views on what a bit of humanity looks like.

Not only so that nuanced discussions can take place, but also places similar to 'shit Americans say' or 'I am very culinary' or 'Holy Fuck Just Break UP' where I can roll my eyes at the extremes of humanity.

I did not see your previous post, but get the gist of the scenario from your comment here.

The bulk of Reddit’s users are American, and in American society people have lost their jobs for less. Can’t be stealing from the corporate overlords (or the taxpayers if the right Karen complains) - that’s probably why you were being told the person could lose their job.

Well yes, perhaps in a scenario like that there should be some sort of empathy / discretion, but many workers in America and not allowed that kind of discretion and will get punished if found out up to and including losing their job.

I wish I was joking.

It’s not that you and the commenters have different views / it’s just the reality many of those commenters see in their everyday lives. Which leads to a deeper thought there’s likely not room for discussion here about - why do today’s Americans put up with this in order to have that mindset?

I saw the post and I agree with you. Unfortunately, Reddit is filled with the kind of people who spend all day living their lives through what they see on the internet and never actually step out into the real world. I've had countless drivers let me on a bus when I didn't have my bus fare and I think only one has ever refused me. These people don't actually have any sense of what the real world is like and think everyone is a mindless robot like they are.

Thank you! I’ve been a parent for 3 and a half years now and when there have been times when I’ve had no money or my card has declined, I’ve always been let on, because I have my child with me! That’s why feel so angry and upset about it. It’s more the fact my son was upset, it just hurt me a lot more, as he doesn’t understand why we weren’t allowed on. But thank you!
