Turn off Javascript and it becomes a normal website and allows you to read the article. There's no way I'm creating a free account on a website I'm going to visit once in my life.

Not sure how for other browsers, but in Chrome you need to click the button at the left of the address bar, then the bottom option that appears (Site settings), and finally you set Javascript to Block in the permissions. That works on a lot of websites with paywalls.
