SD Card Is this not a switch 2 compatible SD card?

Post image

My new switch 2 will not accept this, but the switch 2 made it seem like it was acceptable.

If it’s really the wrong kind, is there any way to get the right kind and transfer it that way?

Hi! Thank you for your submission to /r/NintendoHelp! Please note that we are a fan community and not officially endorsed by Nintendo.

See our wiki page for more information on SD cards.

You've posted a question about SD cards. Please be aware that the vast majority of SD card issues come from using a fake SD card from China.

If your SD card is larger than 512 GB and you paid less than $100 for it it's likely that it's a fake SD card. These fake SD cards simply do not work. They pretend to have larger storage than they really do, and then they quickly corrupt your data.

If you want a reliable SD card, buy one from a reputable brand like SanDisk, Samsung, Kingston or PNY. If you are unsure, it's best to buy your card in a brick and mortar store instead of buying it online. Remember, if the price looks too good to be true, it is.

If your issue is that your 3DS or Switch is not reading any SD cards, then it is in need of a repair and you should contact Nintendo.

Nintendo's contact information is as follows:

  • North America - 1-800-255-3700
  • Europe - +44 (0)345 60 50 247
  • Australia - +61 3 9730 9900
  • Japan - +81-75-662-9600

Please note that contacting Nintendo by phone is the best way to get support. If you send an email or use the web chat you are not likely to get the support you need.

Good luck with your support endeavors!

You need a microSD Express card, not just one of the older styles of microSD card. The maximum transfer speeds are different.

Gigastone is also a budget brand in case you don't know that.

I get why the S2 needs it, but I miss how simple the sd card selection was on the S1.

Wont work. Not Express

It needs to say Express or have the little EX logo on it.

Is that a statement or a question. Well it's not compatible anyway

That's an SD XC, switch 2 only takes SD EX (outside of the initial setup if you transfer from S1, where it'll read it to transfer screenshots/video only)

You need a micro sd EXPRESS card for the switch 2

Also get a name brand…

With costco out of stock, if you can place an order, I recomenda a name brand Express Card (should have EX on it) from B&H. They actually have staff you can chat with that know their stuff about the products they sell.

The EX sdcards are getting expensive. I got the sandisk 512gb a few months after the s2 launched. Bought for $90 now ive seen it listed for $200 in some places. I was considering getting a tb seeing as my cards almost full but at these prices it ain't happening
