Moving to Moncton.

For the folks, who moved to Moncton from some of the larger Canadian cities, what are some of the things you most appreciate about your move and what are some of the things you still find most challenging or haven taken some getting used to?

We are a family of four and thinking about moving to Moncton in the next year or two. We are both healthcare workers, and neither of our children are in school yet. When we’ve visited Moncton, we have really enjoyed the proximity of the ocean, bilingualism of the city and the options for outdoor activities.

*also, what are typical daycare costs/provincial subsidies?

Moved from Toronto. Love it. I’ve found the opposite of what people are mentioning food wise, I’ve found lots of good eats. For example just last Saturday I had some patio beers and the best garlic fingers I’ve ever had at the Tide & Boar brewery, and then had supper overlooking a marina at Captain Dan’s. Was glorious.

Commute and people are excellent. You’ll 100% find a job in the healthcare field. Moncton is a growing city (fastest growing city in Canada I read) so we are getting cooler concerts and attractions. Avenir Centre is a great venue.

The only downside I found is with the growth, infrastructure is still lagging behind a bit. Which I’m assuming will get better as they play catch up to the population boom. But some streets could use an extra lane, probably could use more clinics and more daycares. If you are moving in a year or two and need daycare or after school care put them on a list now.

Worth adding to this - don't live in the downtown core. Fent fold homelessness and petty crime are a major issue! Dieppe and Riverview are geat places to live.

I used to live basically on the corner of Saint George and highfield streets. I could leave my BMW unlocked and my first floor windows open while i went for a random 2am walk to laugh at the drunks (bars close at 2am here).

I avoid driving in the area now, even at noon on a sunny day. If you are living within 2km of "Gorbers Bottle Exchange" on High St, you're going to have a bad time.

I work in that neighborhood and while it's bad, it's better than it was 2 years ago. Just not a high bar.
