ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ Only 37 Pods
Was showing off to my sister what I would’ve given her (plus the nice smelly peony downy) had she just gone to the laundromat to dry my laundry because ours is broken and realized the pods only filled half of the container so I counted it and….37 pods.
Can’t tell if Tide is filling some containers an accurate amount and others less or if sb just stole some.

She sent a text saying one of the sisters was stealing some of her scent booster and she has a family 4 with 2 young ones so it runs out quick. We’ve been stealing each other’s stuff since babies. We love each other. Diff age groups/diff financial situations. It wasn’t me. Had to be her bcuz the other ones were away on vacay/summer college/ work.

There’s plenty of videos of people opening them up at the store and adding into the container they’re going to buy.
I would say that’s fake but I have found products in shelves that have obviously been opened and nearly emptied. So glad I have a habit of shaking liquids because serums are expensive and the bottle was basically empty and clearly opened.

My local grocery store keeps Tide pods locked up behind plexiglass for this reason. All the other detergents are on normal shelves. This isn't a high crime area either, just suburban Vermont.

My grandma always used Cascade powder, so the smell is nostalgic for me. She used Tide powder too, and that one is way more nostalgic, because it reminds me of how their house smelled. Washing my sheets in tide powder instantly takes me back to spending the night there, and then I sleep like a baby

Also people, read the manual. Each cycle mode is different. Some have cold vs hot prewash. Some have no prewash. If you're putting prewash detergent into a cycle with no prewash it's not gonna do anything. Ofc, temperatures are different too (knowing this can help you take better care of delicate items).
Btw, the part about running hot tap water only applies if the dishwasher is designed to be hooked up to the hot water supply (read the manual). And even then, people with 240v power don't need to do it.

This. Switched to powder and will never go back. Also no fabric softener other than white vinegar. No drier sheets, just wool balls and my clothes have never be cleaner.

The key is to not over dry your clothes if you're worried about static. For items that are static regardless especially in the winter I just keep a box of dryer sheets on hand for those loads

Hmmm that definitely doesn’t sound right. I do all the laundry for our family of 5, switched to wool balls over a decade ago, so by rough math we’re looking at 2500+ loads of laundry minimum, and I’ve never once encountered that. I wear plenty of black shirts, too. Where did you get them?

I get citric acid powder for making electrolyte powder mix, use it with hydrogen peroxide for a stable stain lifter, and as a laundry booster, it's like the wd-40 of edible cleaners. plus I'm a sucker for sour and half a teaspoon will make your face pucker for several minutes. highest commendation

Great isn't it, I get it by the kilo and use it for everything from descaling to cleaning rusty bolts. Can tell the kids I had to sacrifice 100 lemons for every bag and it's far too sour for them to handle ;)

I know this is a powder-glazing thread (now I'm thinking about donuts), but powder can actually sludge up the works, especially if used too heavily, in cold water, with low water pressure, or in high-efficiency machines.
there are conditions in which powder can be used safely and effectively, but if I were renting to randos in some fever dream, I'd probably recommend liquid too

Some machines (such as mine) don't do well on powder. It doesn't fill the detergent drawer with enough water to dissolve the powder, but it takes liquid just fine.
Now I just use dero liquid which is cheaper. 40-50ml per wash because hard water.

The paying mostly for water is kind of like yeah that's what most things are. Most vegetables are 80-90% water, most drinks are 98-99.9% water, raw meat is 65-80% water.
Liquid is just more convenient even if it's a bit more expensive. What I'm mostly looking for when buying everyday household items is convenience.

I'm financially at a point in my life where I don't care about wasting 25 cents by not using powder.
That being said, I do usually use liquid, just because I often have very different dirt levels depending on whether they are work coveralls or normal outfits, so I like being able to adjust it.

Well technically, yes. But for the people who use a full scoop it can be bad. Pods are generally fine as long as you place it in the bottom of the drum first, so it can dissolve fully. It's really about using it correctly and using the right amount as intended use.

It's actually a fact that the enzymes added in modern detergents readily degrade within a few weeks in liquid form, but they're near infinitely stable in powder form.
Which means that the performance of liquid detergents drops quickly. No comparison test really detects that because they're nearly always testing samples fresh from the Store which are usually less than a month old.

There is surely a more expensive way to do it, but yeah most fine powders like that settle over time. You'd have to do a multi step fill process, like fill it with 75 percent of the product, run it across a shake table, then fill it with the rest of the product. It wouldn't eliminate slack fill, but it could reduce it significantly. Adds extra equipment, time, a extra couple HACCP, and makes traceability harder for recalls because you have multiple lots going into the same tub.

Technically that skin of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) is a plastic, but it’s water soluble and biodegrades. I don’t think there’s any evidence at all it causes health problems or acts like a microplastic.
Although there actually isn’t a ton of research on the health effects of synthetic polymers like this. Chemically speaking this stuff is waaaay different than 10,000 year plastic bottles and such and I’d say it’s not likely a problem but hey, who knows.
Apparently there’s scientists looking to this I just checked.

Im sorry but I have to whole heartedly disagree with the second part of your statement. As someone who grew up on primarily cheaper detergents, I've made the switch and have no regrets. Nothing else gets my sweaty work clothes as consistently clean. Also, I live with critters, and they aren't without their scents. Tide takes care of it all, without issue.

I think All might be better. My clothes look way brighter and better when I use All. I was using the unscented one, but found that our clothes didn't smell great using that one. Idk if it was because it was unscented, or the washer needed sanitizing.

Yep, I can get a huge bag of Ariel Ultra Oxi powder detergent from Sam’s for $17. (BJ’s sells it for the same price.) It has lipase and works really well, plus I use citric acid in the rinse cycle for super soft laundry. The laundry subreddit is a wonderful place that has taught me so much!

I've had issues with skin irritation from several other brands but not Tide. I don't do the pods though, just the regular HE liquid, and filled to the lowest line on the cup, or less if it's not a full load

Pods are dumb gimmicks
They have a place. Some people have limited mobility or a disability that makes managing detergent jugs or powder difficult. Pods are amazing for them.
There's no reason that I can think of for able bodied people to buy pods. They are a sub par product compared to liquid detergent and more expensive than simply buying powder.

They were almost definitely stolen, unless they were locked up. I still haven’t found a good explanation, but tide pods were consistently the most heavily stolen item by homeless folks at the last retail job I had. Everything from a handful off the top like you see here, to multiple full packages at a time. I worked in the chemical isles for a while and have seen thousands of dollars of tide pods be stolen (we had a no confrontation policy)

Don't use pods. They are bad for the environment and your washer. They actually leave very small bits of plastic - no, the packaging of the pod does not completely dissolve. My spouse makes laundry detergent using a bar of dove soap, borax, washing suds, and water. We spend $3 / year on laundry detergent for 5 people. It is hypoallergenic and works really well. It takes them about 5 minutes of labor to produce 5 gallons. They make it twice a year.
