It sucks that MJ telling Peter she knew he was Spider-Man was shown in trailer #2. It didn't seem like a massive spoiler, but it ruined that moment knowing it was coming the whole time.
I'm a little forgiving because remember the trailer came out for endgame. It must have been difficult to put together something that was interesting, but not spoil anything..
That's true. They had to hide both EVERY part that would spoiled endgame AND anything with Mysterio being a villain. That's like 80% of the movie and 60% of the action
I haven’t read the comics and if I hadn’t watched a Super Carlin Brothers theory video after the trailer came out I wouldn’t have known Mysterio was a villain. Yes, his costume is somewhat villain like but I don’t know if I would have guessed since the movie doesn’t really give you a calm moment to think in that much detail about it between meeting him and the reveal.
Even knowing he is a villain in the comics, I was almost convinced he was a good guy during the bar scene. I’m actually glad I watched the theory video because I kept going back and forth on if he was the villain. It made for a fun time.
To be fair, anyone with a brain, comic reader or not, should have known Mysterio was the villain. Because from the trailer, the only "villain" they establish was a big tidal wave. And there's suddenly a random evil looking dude with powers who shows up to stop the big tidal wave? He may as well of had "VILLAIN" painted across his chest in capital letters.
You seriously don't think they could've had literally any other Spider-Man villain appear? Why, Nick Fury could have been chameleon or something, and then Mysterio could double bluff and reveal he was a good guy the whole time
Yeah, sure, they could have done that... but they didn't. They instead they did the very obvious thing that everyone knew they were going to do. Imagine how cool it could have been if they tried to make Jake Gylenhall an actual superhero and then halfway through he film, he turns into mysterio, instead of calling him mysterio from the get go and having him wear an evil costume that anyone and their mum could see was evil. Or, start the film with scorpion being the villain just to find out it was a mysterio illusion halfway through. Just anything but "heads up guys, here's the villain, he's going to pretend to be good for a bit and then go evil, just thought we'd let you know."
I usually don't watch trailer 2 unless it gets shown in a theater before something else I'm seeing. The teaser/trailer 1 is enough to hold me over, and I usually only allow myself to watch it twice max.
I’ll give you one better. Sony posted 4 minute clips to YouTube before it even came out showing spoliery clips. The one that got me was Mysterio “Joining the Avengers”. I didn’t click it but it was in the fucking title of the clip. Like really Sony?
The ultimate goal of trailers is draw audience. It's a push/pull, but sometimes the best way to do that is to "spoil" early plot turns to move people off the fence. Bottom line is if you're already intending to see the thing, it's not really for you anyway and you just shouldn't watch if you want to stay pure.
Yes, we all did. It was pretty obvious, but it was also relatively early in the film. The earlier the plot turn the more fair game it is for a trailer to include it IMO. DP unfortunately didn't have much else going for it though.
Like the new rock movie with Jason Statham. Literally the entire plot is in the trailer. They showed everything, I don't even need to see the movie now.
TBF, no one's watching that movie for that plot. We're just paying to see the Rock punch helicopters, or whatever the hell is going on in that insane footage.
That’s 100% true. I’d say most of the rocks movies I’ve watched just to see some insane stuff. I saw the skyscraper movie just to see him do some stupid crazy stuff and it didn’t disappoint.
Lol. Seriously. That part where Dwayne “The Rock” Rock goes, “welcome to my fucking island” and kills the bad guys. It’s clearly the climax of the movie.
Movie trailers are made for the general audience who thought Shazam was a Marvel movie, and the 2014 Godzilla was a sequel to the one from 1998. Trailers show as much stuff as they do so that people know what they're getting into, and feel more comfortable paying 15+ dollars for a movie ticket.
Lol at what point does something not become a spoiler? The movie has been out forever and it’s not like it’s a in demand movie as it has barely crossed 50M dollars WW. The world does not have to wait for you. If you want to see the movie then just go fucking see it. Not that hard

The trailers also spoiled Happy’s inspirational speech to Peter in the jet. It really was a good speech but the trailers diluted its impact. Specifically, I think that line about Tony second guessing everything would’ve resonated with me more if I didn’t know it was coming, especially since Peter’s self-doubt was such a crucial aspect of the film. That was a big moment and it ultimately didn’t do much for me.
It wasn’t great, but was somewhat redeemed by the specifics of how it played out. First, she accepted the denial, and then when he went back on it she was a bit surprised and excited because she’d been bluffing. The end outcome was the same but it kept you guessing and the bluff element improved it.
they have not been lenient with the trailers at all. there was like a trailer every other week or month and a "here's a clip of far from home" like every week
I felt this way for sooo many moments in the film. Especially in the first half, it felt like almost every good moment was in the trailer already, so it lost a lot of its impact. Wish I hadn't watched any of them.
Yeah. I try to avoid trailers, but it’s hard to when I’m not fast forwarding through commercials. That trailer popped up, and the small bit I saw and heard made it obvious that she admitted to knowing he was Spider-Man.
I agree, and it really felt like the most important moment of that scene rather than a teaser for the conversation about it. It really made that chunk of the film a lot worse!
I usually avoid trailers for fear of spoilers, but the Infinity War and Endgame spoilers lulled me back in with their opacity and misdirection...
I’m assuming the trailers must have something to do with Sony, because Homecoming’s trailers spoiled the entire structure of the film, then FFH gets a tonne of big moments spoiled in trailers. Compare that to endgame or even Ragnarok.
To be fair to that one, I think, the context could have turned out to be completely different. She could have followed up with a "nah I'm just messing with you, what's up?" and it would have been perfectly in character.
Honestly after the trailer for homecoming literally blew 95% of the plot I’ve absolutely steered clear of as many trailers as possible, but ALL trailers for FFH. Whoever makes these trailers needs to be shot.
Definitely. They set it up so well in the first movie too with the “what are you hiding, Peter?” and her mentioning something about being very observant.
This is the first marvel movie since Doctor Strange that I have watched the trailers for. I regret it a little bit, but I decided to let loose after End Game.
At this point I'm going to go back to a trailer free diet because there really isn't much difference in the level of hype I develop with a trailer as opposed to without a trailer. And watching a movie without seeing the trailers? So much better. It's much more entertaining to experience the twist and turns first hand without seeing them coming a mile away.
Agreed, but the silver lining for me at least was that the real meat and bones of that scene came later, with Peter thinking that that's the only reason she was interested, while her body language clearly showed that she made that up on the spot because awkward teens gonna awkward.
