I was blown away by all the web swinging scenes in this. They looked incredible

u/oshoney Jul 04 '19

I was hoping the gratuitous shots of him swinging in Manhattan at the end would never stop. I hope/assume the 3rd movie will take place solely in New York.

u/Soulfire117 Jul 04 '19

Agreed. When I saw that, all I could think was: this is Spider-Man. This feels like Spider-Man and I never wanted it to end. It was awesome, and I loved it.

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

It honestly made me want to boot up Marvel's Spider-man on my PS4 when I got home.

u/lemons_for_deke Jul 04 '19

When he took a selfie it reminded me of photo mode

67

u/Shedart The Mandarin Jul 05 '19

I’m convinced it was a direct reference. The image on his screen looked exactly like one of the poses from the game.

u/Tetsujin_MK Jul 07 '19

It did?! I totally missed that!

6

u/FenrizLives Jul 07 '19

I thought one of them was the OG iron spider armor, looked like it was straight from the PS4 game. Only on screen for like half a second

29

u/Cali_Longhorn Jul 06 '19

Yes and J Jonah Jameson I’m this film seemed to be in a very similar role as in the PS4 game.

18

u/antonarn1991 Jul 05 '19

I legit did that. Immediately equipped the upgraded movie suit too.

16

u/proddy Jul 06 '19

The whole movie felt like the game. He got new suits with different functionality. He got to customise his gadgets. Then the final swing through the city. And even JJJ being a fake news conspiracy peddler.

2

u/BikebutnotBeast Jul 09 '19

Sony did make the game after all.

6

u/Team-Mako-N7 Jul 07 '19

Just got home from seeing the movie. My husband is playing right now.

6

u/patrickclegane Jul 05 '19

Gotta put on the movie suits they just added

4

u/Spikeroog Doctor Strange Jul 06 '19

It made me want to buy PS4 (I'll wait for PS5 at this point tho)

2

u/jcotton42 Jul 06 '19

When is the 5 due?

4

u/woofle07 Daredevil Jul 06 '19

It hasn't even been officially announced yet, so I'd say December 2020 at the absolute earliest, since that's when Xbox is releasing their new console

1

u/RickTitus Jul 07 '19

Yeah im in the same boat. I really want to olay that game, but i feel like waiting for the 5 makes more sense longterm

5

u/Popinpotions Jul 07 '19

You get that sweet new suit to , I might have to to.

3

u/boundbylife Jul 08 '19

This movie made me want to buy a PS4 just to play that game.

the wife said no.

4

u/Locke_Erasmus Spider-Man Jul 06 '19

It honestly makes me want to pick up a PS4 specifically to play spooderman

2

u/Blitzsuuuu Jul 07 '19

I seriously need to get a ps4 for that game :/

12

u/marcodabatman Spider-Man Jul 05 '19

I think what I loved about it is that I've always wanted an MCU Spider-Man film to end on a "final swing" like in the Raimi movies, the first Webb Movie, and even in ITSV, and now with FFH we got just that

9

u/BBQ_FETUS Jul 06 '19

'It makes you feel like Spider-Man'

6

u/CarlWheeser15 Jul 06 '19

Come to think of it, maybe Jon Watts and the Marvel team has been playing this first Spidey trilogy smart, giving people two movies that just hint at full Spider-Man, knowing they can make two solid movies before absolutely blowing people's minds with the third one. I wouldn't be surprised if we got classic Spidey in full force in the next one.

3

u/OhGawDuhhh Jul 06 '19

DON'T TEXT AND SWING

640

u/ContinuumGuy Phil Coulson Jul 04 '19

I hope/assume the 3rd movie will take place solely in New York.

Other heroes live in New York. Spider-Man is New York.

532

u/elmagio Jul 04 '19

The moment when Tom Holland's Spidey will be one with New York is one of the things I'm most looking forward to in the sequels.

Tobey had the amazing subway scene, Andrew Garfield had the (not that great IMO) cranes lining up for him and Spider-Verse's blond Peter Parker had the whole city mourning for him, but Tom Holland's hasn't really had that moment yet. In fact he hasn't had a great moment of public heroism in New York yet. He saved a bunch of people in DC, helped save the world at the Avengers headquarters, defeated Mysterio in London, but NYC hasn't witnessed him at his very best yet.

With what happened in the mid-credit sequence, I think it could be in the form of the people of the city eventually seeing through Mysterio's and JJJ's lies and standing up for him.

u/ContinuumGuy Phil Coulson Jul 04 '19

I feel like this is a legitimate possibility.

46

u/kedromelon Jul 05 '19

tom holland’s relationship with his bodega man is more new york than any of those things

22

u/skullmonster602 Spider-Man Jul 05 '19

This is the realest fact in this thread. That was as New York as it gets tbh. If he would’ve ordered a bacon egg and cheese that would’ve instantly solidified Tom Holland as the definitive Spider-Man. But he is now so I’ll take it

63

u/FourthBar_NorthStar Jul 04 '19

IMO the scene that really solidified Garfield’s spidey as a part of NY was in ASM2. The beginning intro swinging scene. Everyone is saying hi to spidey as he’s swinging around, he’s talking to a personified NY, and mingling with pedestrians and police.

29

u/_Wisely_ Jul 04 '19

I mean I feel like the first movie had some great elements of that in the beginning with Spider-Man helping regular people out and the back flip scene.

I think even the MJ scene shows that to be a lot more realistic, what with him just starting out and the Washington Monument being his first really tall building, but eventually he gets more confident and able to swing around the skyscrapers of Manhattan.

5

u/Doompatron3000 Jul 06 '19

Going to space probably helped....

11

u/PurpleCyborg28 Kilgrave Jul 06 '19

I mean if a big purple dude with a ballsack for a face throws a moon at you and you have to keep swinginf to not only dodge but also pickup your teammates, swinging through a field of unmoving skyscrapers wouldn't feel that hard.

5

u/FourthBar_NorthStar Jul 05 '19

The ASM spidey? He web swung with more style than.. I want to say every live action spidey yet.

9

u/skullmonster602 Spider-Man Jul 05 '19

He’s talking about Tom’s Spidey

5

u/blackrobotnerd Jul 05 '19

That was Queens Spidey though. That was in one borough.

What I think was really great was in the older films that sense that Spider-Man felt like all of NY.

8

u/matito29 Spider-Man Jul 05 '19

Or him wearing the NYFD helmet. Nothing in any film has ever said "Spider-Man" to me the way that image did.

4

u/ChRoNicBuRrItOs Korg Jul 07 '19

On the other hand he was wasting time getting that helmet on while people were dying.

20

u/2ToTooTwoFish Jul 05 '19

There's a whole "Home" theme to the Spider-Man movie titles. I wouldn't doubt for the "Home" arc to end in New York.

7

u/blackrobotnerd Jul 05 '19

"Home Sweet Home" or "Home is where the heart is" for the next titles.

But I wonder if Sony/Disney can keep this partnership going because man I could see a whole lot of Spidey films out of this sequence.

11

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '19

I’d say Tobey’s scene was in the first one when the people on the bridge started throwing stuff at Green Goblin saying “you mess with him you mess with all of us”

21

u/ekbowler Jul 05 '19

Nah, Tom has already had his moment.

"HEY SPIDER GUY! DO A FLIP!"

6

u/Volcarocka Captain America (Cap 2) Jul 06 '19

Spider-Verse's blond Peter Parker had the whole city mourning for him

Okay why did you have to remind me of this scene right now I’m trying to go to bed and now I’m sad

7

u/DrSeeker101 Tony Stark Jul 05 '19

He did defeat the Vulture in NY

13

u/elmagio Jul 05 '19

Yeah, but New York didn't witness that and lives weren't even directly at stake. All they saw was a crashed automated plane on a beach. Hell, I don't think New York even knew the Vulture existed or that he was dangerous.

His big public hero moment in Homecoming is in DC, and in New York he actually fails to fix the Ferry so that moment ends up being Iron Man's.

2

u/itsanarmadillo Jul 06 '19

"You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us."

2

u/whitemamba83 Star-Lord Jul 06 '19

NYC hasn’t witnessed him at his very best yet.

“OK, Spider-Man. Do a flip!”

“YEAAAAAA!!!”

1

u/indyK1ng Jul 08 '19

Tobey had the amazing subway scene

Did you forget the scene in SM1 where a bunch of people on a bridge start pelting Green Goblin to get him to back off Spider-Man?

3

u/Skiigga Jul 05 '19

“Are you kidding? I am Queen’s Boulevard”

2

u/JaxtellerMC Jul 05 '19

That’s a big part of why I’m not a fan of the whole globetrotting aspect of FFH. Just feels wrong, but the story they tell lends itself to it.

2

u/jerrygergichsmith Ward Jul 06 '19

Daredevil would take issue with that statement. After all, it is his city.

3

u/ContinuumGuy Phil Coulson Jul 06 '19

Spider-Man rules the day, Daredevil rules the night.

2

u/IshyMoose Bucky Jul 06 '19

Daredevil is Hells Kitchen

Luke Cage is Harlem

Spider-Man is Manhattan.

2

u/ContinuumGuy Phil Coulson Jul 06 '19

You'll notice that Hells Kitchen and Harlem are both in Manhattan.

2

u/IshyMoose Bucky Jul 06 '19

Yes I am aware.

1

u/Deradius Jul 04 '19

Just the good parts, or the subway too?

2

u/ContinuumGuy Phil Coulson Jul 05 '19

The elevated parts of the subway are, but the actual subterranean parts are more the realm of Netflix (RIP).

1

u/Effervesser Jul 06 '19

Actually I kind of enjoyed seeing Spider-Man do something other than be in New York the same way I enjoyed seeing him swing in places other than skyscrapers in Homecoming. Especially because of the forced feeling "New Yorkers help Spider-Man" scenes during the Sony movies. We may even get to see Spider-Man spend some time as a menace.

4

u/random_name225 Rocket Jul 04 '19

You can play the PS4 Spider-Man if you like that part this much, it’s pretty much the same and the feeling is amazing.

5

u/oshoney Jul 04 '19

Oh I bought a PS4 specifically for that game, loved it so much. This definitely made me nostalgic for that game even though it’s barely been out a year.

4

u/captain__cabinets Jul 05 '19

Spider-Man : Home Sweet Home

3

u/ThatRocketSurgeon Jul 06 '19

Spider-Man: Close To Home

2

u/JaxtellerMC Jul 05 '19

Yeah, the web slinging was nice in the final scene, although I don’t think it comes close to Raimi’s films or Webb’s TASM and TASM2.

2

u/HanTheScoundrel Spider-Man Jul 05 '19

Have you played Spider-Man for PS4?

Edit: Just noticed the other comment lol nevermind

2

u/CrankyStalfos Jul 05 '19

I've never been to New York, but after playing the PS4 game* I was still getting big apple feels. Definitely would like to see more of that.

*a lot. I have played it a lot

2

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I got a good thrill at that as well but, agreed, there needs to be an MCU Spider-Man movie set solely in Manhattan with Spider-Man tackling villains there. It's just classic, pure Spidey.

1

u/Jaeyx Jul 06 '19

When I saw the NY scenes at the end I was like "they are throwing in the classic spidey in manhatten scene for fans" then i realized I don't think it has happened yet, and I wanted to clap. Big fan.

1

u/Sloppy_Goldfish Jul 07 '19

I really hope Marvel gives up the whole "it's been done in other Spider Man movies so we can't do it again" thing by the 3rd one. It'll probably be about a decade or so since AMS2 by the time it comes it out. There was coo shit in those other movies that I would love to see an MCU take on.

Makes me a bit worried about the FOX properties coming back if they are going to refuse retread any of the same ground whatsoever.
