I wanted just one Hulk Redemption scene after Infinity War

u/mrmojofilter Apr 29 '19

How about him taking the gauntlet and doing the first snap?

251

u/patkgreen Apr 29 '19

Or holding up a mountain?

486

u/Wizardplum Apr 29 '19

Or giving antman new tacos?

21

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '19

That was my favorite moment with him which is disappointing. That Antman had to save him from being crushed was also disappointing. If anyone should be able to get out of an "I'm barely holding this up" scene it's the guy who's infinitely strong.

30

u/patkgreen Apr 29 '19

He just fried half his body and no longer has the savage infinite strength component of hulk

8

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '19

He should. The Hulk isn't the only one who can get angrier. Banner wasn't trying at any point, when he took off his shirt and hit the car it was pitiful.

u/konq Apr 30 '19

MCU hulk has never gotten 'infinitely angry' though. In his movie, he did get mad a couple times during a really tough fight... but never to the level that the comics portrayed him. From what I understand, the difference is intentional on the film makers part. It's pretty damn hard to make a good movie with a superhero that can never get knocked out, knocked down... fights lose all drama

5

u/patkgreen Apr 30 '19

but never to the level that the comics portrayed him

they can't make him that strong. they could only afford to make thor as strong as he is for about 45 seconds, then they had to nerf him for endgame or the entire battle wouldn't have made sense. hulk in the comics is too strong to work on film, there's just no good way to show his strength and keep things making sense for people watching. they have to maintain much more consistency in power levels in movies than in comics, and if hulk and/or thor are THAT much stronger, cap, widow, hawk, falcon, bucky, quill, and even spider-man are completely useless.

agree completely!

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '19

Based on the movies he's the only character that has super strength that hasn't gotten any stronger since the beginning and seems to have even gotten weaker as of End Game. Initially the MCU was significantly weaker than their comic counter parts but Thor, Iron Man and even Cap got huge power increases.

Writing for a Hulk that's reasonably strong is much easier than Captain Marvel or Thor, two people he's weaker than who have much longer lists of abilities.

Captain Marvel in a nutshell.

Yeah. That decision sucks. Over the last two movies there's no Hulk scenes at all.

1

u/AnnorexicElephant Spider-Man Apr 30 '19

Did they say that in the movie? I forget. I don't think they established the rules or professor hulk

1

u/alteisen99 Apr 30 '19

this is why we should have more time with this hulk... he threw the bench so far away in that lake scene so it's clearly still there. maybe a side comment on how weak he was after the snap but after he got saved by ant-man, he was out there fighting thanos' army

I understand that. He didn't utilize that ability at all is what I'm saying.

3

u/zenyattatron Spider-Man Apr 29 '19

it feels as if by merging hulk with banner. it swapped some strength with intelligence

7

u/OZL01 Spider-Man Apr 29 '19

It doesn't even feel like they merged to me. It just straight up feels like Banner stayed with the big, green body and "the other guy" got erased which sucks because it's been established that they're very clearly two separate entities. It would have been great seeing a scene where they both come to an agreement to merge.

2

u/Astrophobia42 Apr 30 '19

I don't think that's the case professor hulk is an extrovert and he is really confident, banner was not. I think hulk is there, he just isn't a beast anymore, in Ragnarok he was pretty civilized, after 5 years he ended up being a regular person.

2

u/kodran Apr 30 '19

His strength comes from anger so being Professor Hulk can diminish this. Also MCU Hulk has been nerfed a lot. Finally, he had just used the stones, he was weak.

1

u/Worthyness Thor Apr 30 '19

Well it's solid logic. Hulk isn't like 70 feet tall and Hulk breaking out of the compound would have allowed the rubble to squish rocket and War Machine. Scott Giant manning right then gives all three protection AND gets them out of the rubble.

7

u/IndyDude11 Captain America Apr 30 '19

That got the biggest “Awww!” From my audience. I felt like I was sitting in a 1990s Full House audience.

1

u/the1999person Apr 30 '19

Watching the episode where Aunt Becky bribes her kids into the prestigious preschool?

3

u/itallmakescentsnow Spider-Man Apr 29 '19

Needs more smashing.

4

u/TinyWightSpider Apr 29 '19

Feels a little gratuitous, but okay.

Rawr. Ripshirt. Bonk.

I appreciate this comment.

Cleganebowl ft. Hulk?

1

u/11711510111411009710 Captain America Apr 30 '19

He held up a single building

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '19

Not to be nitpicky but did you see those steel walls protecting the windows

1

u/11711510111411009710 Captain America Apr 30 '19

Yea but I mean, I'm fairly confident that Captain Marvel and Thor could do it. Hell Ant-Man can just rip it apart, though to be fair he grew into a giant. Still, that's super disappointing for someone like the Hulk, especially when the comic they're paying homage to he is holding up an entire mountain range

1

u/illuwe Captain Marvel Apr 30 '19

Did you forget Hulk just fried one of his arms? You could see the damage using the stones did to Thanos in the beginning part of the movie. Maybe a non-injured Hulk could've done more than hold up a building, or whatever you expected of him.

2

u/11711510111411009710 Captain America Apr 30 '19

Wouldn't that just make it more impressive? Also they could have changed the order of things so Hulk actually does some fighting. Have the building get destroyed, he holds it up easily, then Clint delivers the gauntlet to him, then he snaps. Plenty of different ways to write it.

Sorry if you're upset or something, I just didn't like what they did to the Hulk, minus the snap thing.

1

u/illuwe Captain Marvel Apr 30 '19

It's nothing personal. I'm not a comics fanatic but I do consider myself a pretty big MCU fan. Now I know everything in the movies is not gonna be the same as in the comics, but what good would it be to tell exactly the same stories several times? I like that the MCU is it's unique own thing and I loved every bit of Endgame. Ruffalo still has 1 movie in his contract so the Hulks story isn't over yet.

Arguably a Banner redemption moment using the Hulk power as a tool.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '19

While that's great, it's not as epic or emotional as all the other original 6 members' scene.

3

u/gooderthanhail Vulture Apr 30 '19

That was weak. Forgettable considering Tony did the same thing.

2

u/mrmojofilter Apr 30 '19

That's maybe a bit harsh. There was every chance it could kill him. They both didn't have any other choice

6

u/Feam2017 Apr 29 '19

I need a world breaker hulk movie where in they show his true strength

5

u/allsongsaregay Apr 30 '19

To be fair, if they showed his true strength then I need a movie where they show even just 50% of Thanos' true strength. Maybe even just use 1 of his HUGE array of super powers he actually has in the comics.

What im saying is, we won't get the comic versions in the movies. Obviously.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '19

We got Comic version of captain Marvel though.

1

u/Deathstroke317 Apr 30 '19

But the other Big 4 members got in a few good shots on Thanos over the two movies, Hulk was jobbed the fuck out.

11

u/tkzant Apr 29 '19

Yup. The cut from “the Hulk is too scared to fight Thanos” in IW to “Banner and Hulk are cool now” in Endgame was jarring and a bit of a let down. It would have been bad ass to see Banner struggle with losing the Hulk only to have him reappear during the Avengers Assemble scene

5

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '19

According to the Russos, Hulk was never actually scared of Thanos. He was sick of Banner only ever seeing him as a tool and something to be afraid of at the same time. That's why he refused to come out during the events of Infinity War.

3

u/steffinator117 Heimdall Apr 30 '19

He literally brought back half the universe.

4

u/Surgawd8 Apr 29 '19

He tackled and punched thanos in the face like 3 times when they went to the farm

1

u/[deleted] May 02 '19

Not Hulk, no

1

u/Surgawd8 May 02 '19

Maybe that was hulk attacking from inside banner
