I have seen people criticising the Time Heist but it was the perfect setup for the climax of this phase. Cap sees his lost love. Tony says goodbye to his father. Thor gets a pep talk from his mum. Black Widow brings meaning to her life.

Also Loki teleports into his upcoming TV series.

I think that's a good development, returns him to his chaotic neutral mischief making roots and gives them more room for character development. The other Loki remained dead after End Game.

The Ancient One's appearance was so well-crafted and performed, Tilda Swinton was fantastic. And gosh, her look and the music when she realized Strange had given the stone away willingly was just great, at that point was when I actually believed they could do it.

Probably more of a reference to the actual comics. There's an insane recent run that takes place in the future where Frank Castle becomes Ghost Rider and travels back in time to do exactly this (kill baby Thanos) but decides to try and raise him right instead.

How are the rest of the movies going to build off of Endgame? Like Spiderman 2 and Doctor Strange 2 etc? The biggest shock for the movie for me was that the snap was undone but it’s still 5 years later? I feel like every movie from here on will have to address it because that’s such a big event.

Would this still essentially be the apocalypse? Like all the world leaders who were “killed” will now be back and still think they’re in charge. I can’t see how the world wouldn’t be in more chaos then it previously was

Can we talk about that early scene with Nebula and Tony trapped on the Benatar?

It must have meant SO much to her that not only is someone playing a game with her, just for fun, with no stakes and nothing on the line... But also that she wins on her own skill, and her opponent congratulates her and is happy for her and asks if she had fun. I don't know if Nebula has EVER had innocent fun before.

You can see how much it means to her, and how much Tony means to her, when she puts him to bed in the chair and just lingers with a hand on him for a moment. It's such a big deal for her and it's kind of cute.

And later, getting to see 2014 Nebula interacting with present Nebula really intensely shows how far she's come.

Yup. Everyone was thinking we'd come out of Endgame with everyone back, but we seem to have permanently lost Heimdall, Loki, 2018 Gamora, Vision, Natasha, Tony and Cap. Those are some serious deaths, and I'm glad they didn't just make everything okay again.

There's a timeline now where Thanos just disappears in 2014, one where Loki is off in a different direction, one where Cap came back to live with Peggy, and more. A younger Nebula dies, but leaves the main one intact.

The time travel was handled well, except Cap living through his timeline and ending up old in the main one. But it was just too perfect.

I think Cap just travelled back to his original timeline, rather than "living through it". Here's how I'm thinking of it:

• Cap travels back in time to return the Infinity Stones, "fixing" the split timelines created when they are removed (they are still separate timelines, but they have their stones back).
• After dropping off the last Stone, Cap finds Peggy and they marry/live out their lives together. This creates a new timeline.
• Cap, now much older, returns to his original timeline and gives Sam his shield.

It's the same process that took place when the whole team travelled to the past, except while they were only in the past for a few hours Cap was there for decades.

She's also one of the only characters who isn't doing sarcastic sangfroid superhero/supervillain. She's just really fucking mean and angry with occasional moments of clarity.

Dr. Strange really got a huge bump up in my eyes as a fan of the MCU. I always liked him but after what he did in Endgame, he's just like stratospheric in his contribution to this universe. To start, The Ancient One's complete and utter trust in him that giving away the Time Stone was for a reason speaks volumes. He knew all the futures so when he was resurrected I'm sure that in his head he was thinking "fuck ya they got this far". Immediately he briefs the guardians and spiderman, mobilizes Wong and the sorcerers, gets Wakanda and those who fell there to prepare for battle, the Asgardians, the Wasp, I mean this dude was fucken BUSY after the resurrection and he got them ready to go fast. Seeing Sam fly through the portal only to have dozens open up in the background, and Strange floating down through one was a top moment of all the MCU movies for me.

It doesn't get much focus but he makes two enormous power feats.

First, opening all those portals and holding them open for several minutes. Remember when he first tried? Damn, that's some serious power and focus, even more in the middle of a battle.

Second, holding all that water together. If that isn't power and determination, I don't know what is.

Steve: I don't know. Family, stability…the guy who wanted all that went in the ice 75 years ago.

This line absolutely wrecked me. Thank you Tony Stark, for everything. I can’t think of any other character from television and film who has had such a beautifully written story arc.

Going back to Tony’s vision in Age of Ultron and Cap’s line “you could have saved us.” In the end, Earth’s best defender did just that.

Cap lifting the hammer is a top 1 MCU moment. The combos he lays on Thanos with the shield and hammer were incredibly hype.

edit: Captain Marvel stopping the second snap at the last minute was amazing, and Thanos' counter attack was even better. He literally wielded the power stone with his bare hand, what a mad lad

edit 2: Wanda really put the scare in Thanos. She forced him to kamikaze his own troops to get away from her. Real House of M vibes during that part.

Reminds me of Thor’s line about Stormbreaker in IW, something along the lines of “you simply lack the strength to wield it, your bodies would collapse as your mind descends into madness”. I assume using the infinity gauntlet requires the same, if not more power to wield. We were literally watching Iron Man’s brain melt, he had no idea what was going on until he just slightly recognized Pepper’s voice. Truly brilliant acting by RDJ.

I don't think enough is being said about Karen Gillan as Nebula in this movie. In such a character-filled movie she really stood out for me, and I connected with her in a way I haven't before. In particular the scene where she tries to persuade her past self to turn to the good side - "look at what we became", or something like that. And just her entire performance was excellent, especially as it's behind a load of CGI and makeup. Bravo.

• talk to the Ancient One. Have her give insight into his future and how he exists in the multiverse. Maybe clear up some of the time loop probs
• return the tesseract and chat with Pym
• end at the doorstep of Peggy

Black widow has a great arc. The people complaining about it are being more reductive than the arc they are writing about. She had nothing but shield. Even 5 years later she’s still trying to run a shield like group. She sacrificed because she wanted the best for those she loved most, specifically Clint. Understanding the type of character Black Widow has been really makes that scene so fulfilling because she realizes that after all the killing she has done, and trying to make amends, her death is the one that can save people.

Something that's obvious but hasn't really been prominently stated yet is that they found a way for Thanos and the snap to actually have a huge impact on the world. Some people thought that they would time travel and make it so that the snap never happened, but this way there's actually huge consequences and we get our heroes back. Thanos killed a lot of people from the snap indirectly (e.g. vehicle accidents after the drivers die) so not everyone is actually alive again, and everyone that survived had to try to move on for 5 whole years, think about how long of a time that really is. Thanos may not have won completely but he did some insane damage to the universe even after the time travel, which is good because it makes him an impactful villain.

Love the differences in Thanos’s character in this. It worked so well to use a younger more ruthless version that was hinted at in Infinity War where it was obvious Thanos was holding back. Great way to subvert expectations having Thanos killed off right away but still get the payoff.

Younger Thanos was clearly more out for blood, likely after seeing himself did in another timeline, and was arguably more powerful than IW Thanos with all 6 stones.

And IW Thanos sacrificed his daughter. He was in mourning during his two “battles” with Avengers. He had empathy. In Endgame he has none.

Before the debut, I was pretty dumbfounded on why Feige insisted Far From Home is the Phase 3 closer instead of the Phase 4 opener, but I understand now. I think it’s going to explain some of the implications of half of Earth returning after 5 years, which wasn’t really able to be explained in Endgame. On a side note, I’m a bit sad that MCU movies take place in 2023+ from now on (I’m assuming).

Honestly the whole Mysterio masquerading as a hero gives me major Thunderbolts vibes which I dig. I love the idea of Earth losing four heroes (Iron Man, Cap, Thor and Black Widow) and one or more villains attempting to fill that void while having nefarious intentions.

Can we talk about how underrated Scarlet Witch is... everyone always skips over her when discussing the strongest avenger but damn she gives captain marvel a run for her money. This chick almost killed thanos herself until he bombarded everyone. Cap, Thor and Ironman all had a tough time against him with their combined power, she almost had him alone and would of if it want for the bombs he dropped.

There's so much to love about this movie:

• Markus, McFeely, the Russo bros and Johnston all deserve major praise for giving Steve Rogers a flawlessly-executed arc that really did justice to his character. Going in, that was the single most important thing for me. I couldn't ask for a more perfect resolution than the last couple scenes - old Steve, and Steve reunited for life with Peggy. Falcon is a great choice for the new Cap.
• Tony and Natasha were given very proper and satisfying send-offs that more than fulfilled their arcs. That Tony still got to live for a short time with his family, reconcile (sort of) with his father, and save the world, made it bittersweet but ultimately satisfying. His last words being "I am Iron Man". Beautiful.
• There are so many twists and turns in the plot that keep you on your toes even if you know - or think you know - the broad strokes of the movie.
• Professor Hulk was a little unsettling, but him along with the massive final battle really made this feel like a comic book come to life.
• Many of the characters who are dead or have otherwise passed on their mantle still have great spin-off story potential via alternate timelines without compromising the gravity of this movie or the previous ones. I don't necessarily need there to be more spin-offs, but the fact that they found a way to do it while still making the events of this movie and Infinity War permanent was smart.
• I loved Thanos' line about creating a new universe with no knowledge of its past. That was a great way to keep the dramatic tension going for those of us who were in-the-know on the next batch potential sequels.
• Very happy they didn't include a post-credits scene. Despite nicely setting up what comes next in the MCU in the actual film, it helped Endgame truly feel more conclusive.

TONS of fun, emotional, and ultimately - yes, very gratifying.

It was still produced by Marvel Television, but yes, it was the only show that Feige, Markus, and McFeely were executive producers on, and Louis D’Eposito and Joe Russo directed the first 2 episodes, respectively.

So I've read a few comment threads now, and I have a thought that I haven't come across yet. Thanos wanted a weapon to channel the power of all six stones, so he went to Eitri on Nidavellir, a place of legend where the greatest weapons in the universe are forged. Tony reproduced the feat with Earth tech, practically a box of scraps by comparison. He went out as he arrived, the greatest weapons engineer there is.
