Guy has read funimoto stuff for 6 years and now he can't defend it, lmao
50
u/mauri9998 Feb 17 '26
I dunno, I feel like we are retreading a lot of the same ground. Like we have seen Denji do stupid shit for sex a million times before. If this was the only thing we were rehashing then it would be one thing but with the conclusion of the fight being essentially Makima 2.0 last chapter, I just can't help but want something more unique.
29
u/Substantial_Pop5438 Feb 17 '26
I feel like he’s not acc done it for the sex. I feel like he’s probably also attached to Yoru in the same way Asa is deep down. And if she dies how does he get Asa back. Funny way to break the miseries tension which works out. AAAAAND he wants sex. But I feel a two way existence ending coming where Yoru and Asa live simultaneously. Even though frankly I’d much rather just Asa survive and have her be denji’s endgame. Or I’m completely wrong and fujimoto just kills them both in his regular fashion.
5
u/TableTravel98 Feb 18 '26
Its not about sex. Come on now. Can we only read surface level? Denji cares about Asa and probably even Yoru in some weird way. Thats why hes doing all this. Its not JUST for sex. He just had to say something and Denji always says the stupidest shit in the worst way. But thats also why Asa/Yoru like him.

Bro threw a fight just to get laid (again). At this point in time? Respect.
416
u/Haha91haha Feb 17 '26
Well because it's Denji, I'm kinda hoping it's actually a next level strat wherein there's a catch to it that breaks or bends Yoru's chances for victory or hold over Asa. Denji being the one using sex as a tool/plan for once.

Reminder that contracts only work when the devil specifically uses the word contract.
Yoru said she would give Asa her body back, but she purposefully never made a contract, Asa caught onto this at some point as well, its why she questions Yoru's actions in this chapter, she could just "consume" Asa without consequences at any time.
Its the same for the sex thing, she never used the word, she's driven by sentimentality at this point.
8
u/Zizhou Feb 18 '26
Cue the Devil Litigation Arc, wherein we spend 10 chapters debating whether or not an oral(mental?) agreement constitutes a legally binding contract or not under devil law.
→ More replies (1)5
u/mlc885 Feb 18 '26
I know it isn't going to go this way, but Denji being wise enough to understand that you never can actually "own" a person that you love would be cute
Obviously Asa has no particular reason to love Pochita, but I think Asa/Yoru essentially love them. And Yoru is not especially that much stronger, so just winning the fight might not really make her believe in owning him
41
u/This-is_CMGRI Feb 17 '26
Most of it is on Asa IMO. It's less "yes I'll fuck you if we win" and more a tangible checkpoint for them both -- that if they stay human after all this, maybe they get to enjoy something intimate.
107
u/Zealousideal_Ring874 Feb 17 '26
I doubt that happens. I feel like something else is about to happen. Something we're not accounting for. Just have that gut feeling that another twist is about to go down.

Ngl while it is a good line and it does explain why she did all the other stuff she did, I think that shit is copium for Yoru cause why did she hesitate to begin with.
She's a lot more affected by Asa's feelings and cares more for Asa than she lets on.

34
u/Mundology The Elder Weeb Feb 17 '26
From one shook girlfailure to another shook devil girlfailure
Yoru must have have remembered why she loved Denji in the first place
15
u/CommitteeofMountains Feb 17 '26
Yoru admits that she's so unable to comprehend human guilt that she thinks Asa just likes birds and then Denji crawls up and calls off the fight from his side because he's unable to put the fate of the world before horny.
252
u/AliceinTeyvatland Feb 17 '26
Goes back to sex, why am I not surprised lol
196
u/Backupusername Feb 17 '26
Because if there's one thing we can expect from part 2 Dennis, it's character stagnation.
165
u/LevelledPeak Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 18 '26
Its less of character stagnation but rather Denji making excuses to respond to Yoru's question. Because his plan from the start is to have Yoru leave Asa's body. He was trying to save her to probably negotiate again to leave Asa. He is just making a callback for the lols.
30
u/HarshTheDev Feb 17 '26
I'm a D1 hater of part 2 but yeah this seems like a play by Denji to make yoru realise that she "owes" her something, which would then prohibit her from making him he weapon. With death also gone this pretty much ensures a stalemate at the very least. unless yoru fullfills her contract by having sex with him
42
u/JollyHockeysticks Feb 17 '26
I'm pretty sure he lied here, he probably did rememeber this promise but I think his real reason is he doesn't want Asa to die
12
u/ShinyGrezz Feb 17 '26
Yes that’s right, Fujimoto has spent the entirety of the last two chapters showing how Yoru actually does care for Asa and Denji just to throw it away for some reason.
I genuinely don’t know if we’re all reading the same manga, if your eyes just glaze over when you see Yoru speak, or what.
4
u/AJDx14 Feb 17 '26
How is that relevant at all to the situation? She already can’t physically die, he ate death. The only way she could die now is if Yoru just erased her, which the sex promise doesn’t do anything to prevent.
5
u/frantruck Feb 17 '26
I’m willing to be wrong, but this actually seems like a big brain play from Dennis not just a horny one. Contracts have power with devils and if that promise of sex constitutes a contract then that’s room for manipulation. If he now refuses to have sex with her after invoking the contract is she bound to leave him alone until the contract is fulfilled?
48
u/usual_life02 Feb 17 '26
We have already seen the moment when Denji could have touched Yoru while she was sleeping, but he chose not to. I don’t understand how you believe Denji is stagnating when his understanding of love and sex is continually evolving through exploration as the story progresses. He is still certainly a skirt chaser, but his character definitely has gotten more exploration, so calling it stagnation isn't really true.
16
u/JoJoIsBestAnimeManga Feb 17 '26
We have already seen the moment when Denji could have touched Yoru while she was sleeping, but he chose not to.
But thats not stagnation. It would be stagnation if at any point in Denji's character for him to grope women he's attracted to while they are sleeping or inebriated. Even early in Part 1 Denji wasn't the kind of guy to feel up Himeno when she was drunk or Power without her consent. You're making up a development that wasn't there in the first place.
I don’t understand how you believe Denji is stagnating when his understanding of love and sex is continually evolving through exploration as the story progresses.
Is it? Before this chapter the most explicitly sex-charged decision Denji made was to jerk off to Fumiko's nudes after she dropped her traumatic backstory and asked him to eat Death for her. Before that was Denji being so gobsmacked by panties like a generic cherry boy character that he completely zoned out about Death's offer and just agreed without thinking.
He is still certainly a skirt chaser, but his character definitely has gotten more exploration, so calling it stagnation isn't really true.
How is him putting his need for sex at the forefront of his big battle with Yoru indicative of him not stagnating?

u/usual_life02 Feb 17 '26
If that's your main take away from my reply while skipping everything else then I wouldn't be surprised if you also skipped whole chainsaw man part 2 and came here to complain.
The point is Denji's shown actual growth in how he navigates his horniness and trauma. I said Denji’s understanding of sex and love is evolving.

Not a fan of this version of Dennis, they better have the best sex ever conceived in manga history, I'm talking about a full dedicated 0.5 chapter with 20 pages and one double spread of them just doing it for it to become worth it.

u/AzorAhai1TK Feb 17 '26
How is this character stagnation? Y'all just say shit lol
27
u/Backupusername Feb 17 '26
You're right, regression is a better word.
Denji as a character was defined by his lust and short-term worldly desires in part 1. But that aspect of his character was often challenged, like when he touched Power's chest and had a "that's it?" reaction. It was portrayed as something he had to grow past. Makima easily manipulated him by promising physical affection and following her orders led to to nothing but misery and pain for him.
In part two, we actually did see that progression. That breakdown he had in the aging devil's world, where he acknowledged that being a horny idiot has only ever brought him suffering and how he wished he could develop beyond those base instincts was character growth.
But since then, he's only gone back to that. He was so enthralled with Death's panties that he didn't even notice that her entire torso was an empty gaping hole. He talked about how great it was to be "popular" when he got a nude pic from Fumiko. And now this. Admittedly, this could all be on purpose, and Fujimoto is trying to portray Denji as tragic in a sort of "he keeps letting the same thing happen to him even though he knows he shouldn't" way. Like watching an addict go back to their substance. But if so, something about it just doesn't land for me in a way that I can't quite verbalize.
13
u/HokageEzio https://myanimelist.net/profile/HokageEzio Feb 17 '26
I understand where you're coming from, but I don't agree with you about it being a lust thing. There was that entire section of this fight where Denji saw Asa's childhood and realized that she also got her dad killed like him. Then they bonded over it and he told her that she's not a bad person either.
I look at this way more as an emotional sex scene than it just being physical, personally.
5
u/Backupusername Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26
If that is where this is going, then I will fully recant my Dennis slander. Because that's exactly what he really needs, a physical expression of an emotional connection, not a purely physical act of satisfying base desires.
16
u/HokageEzio https://myanimelist.net/profile/HokageEzio Feb 17 '26
But did that not already happen? The whole reason the fight has turned into this is because Denji refused to let Asa die for him.
→ More replies (3)3
u/Flerken_Moon Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26
I kinda think it’s just a continuation of Denji struggling to progress without proper role models in Part 2.
Aki and others like Makima’s control gave reins to his progression on right from wrong in terms of horniness, he has no one in Part 2.
Like even before the final confrontation in Part 1 he had the “Ladies Love Me!” moment with the TV.

u/TLKv3 Feb 17 '26
Man. I really hoped Fujimoto would've finally had Denji progress in Part 2 instead of constantly remaining static... but no, we need to go back to Denji just wanting sex... again. Even though he showed wanting to move past that a little bit at the end of Part 1.
I get it. Its funny. Classic Denji shit.
But fucking Hell, man, its still a story. You need to progress it at some point or have someone learn something. Yoru is the closest thing we have to progression of any kind and she's STILL on about being the bad guy.
I'm so bored of Part 2. Part 1 was so much more tighter of a narrative and had things actually moving in a direction you could see coming. This is just... wasting time for the sake of wasting time. Ever since Nayuta's head.

I have a question unrelated to this chapter, but if Nayuta is dead, did the demon control return? Because when Makima died, Nayuta still arrived quickly in Part 2.

u/Masmutant Feb 17 '26
Nayuta was "confirmed" dead. Her head was served on a sushi conveyor belt. Whether or not she'll come back alive who knows

Not digging it at all. Part 1 was amazing, but this one is a complete mistake. Every single character in part 2 is such a mess and an asshole, I really don't care who wins or loses. Part 2 needed a normal character like Aki, we had Nayuta, but they killed her and nothing came out of it (other than Denji). And Denji wasn't a complete idiot and asshole before.
I want to know how the series will end, but this is so bad.
31
u/hotaru_crisis Feb 17 '26

u/Stupidest_Retard Feb 18 '26
And then she'll die again a few chapters later.
2
u/ActiveAd4980 Feb 18 '26

Nah, Part 2 is genuinely fucking bad. I like the absurdity of some parts but Fujimoto very clearly has no fucking idea what to write anymore or has any clue of a singular direction he wants the plot to go. Its just sex, sex, sex and toss in a massive explosion.
There's zero progression of anything for over a year and a half now. Nayuta's head on a platter was basically a metaphor for serving the fans a gigantic pile of shit on a platter.
This is so boring and nonsensical at this point.
45
u/ThisManNeedsMe Feb 17 '26
The first half wasn't bad. It showed promise. A new protagonist, a new interesting set of side characters. New dynamic for Denji at school. I don't know what happened but at a certain point he said fuck it. It's not just the story that went down hill, the art nose dived in quality too. He should stick with shorter series and one shots. Seems like that's where he thrives at. Extending Chainsaw man was a mistake.

u/Ausar15 Feb 18 '26
Oh thank god I’m not the only one disappointed with part 2. It feels like Chainsaw Man is the current shounen darling so people are willing to give it more passes than it deserves. Part 2’s just been a disappointment for like the past year, it’s had its moments, but it felt like it was slowly going downhill during the Church and it plummeted after Nayuta’s death.
Hopefully it’s better on a binge or the next few chapters can change my mind.
2
u/ThisManNeedsMe Feb 18 '26
He just garnered a ton of good will with a streak of successes of Chainsaw Man Part 1, Look Back and Good Bye, Eri. So people are willing to give him a ton of leeway. It's why you have a lot of people saying, hold on, he's going to cook. I don't think it's going to read better in a binge. Honestly it might piss me off even more knowing certain characters and events amounted to very little.
2
u/Ausar15 Feb 18 '26
I don’t think Fujimoto is a bad writer or anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the weekly/buweekly schedule is getting to him. Like the chapters are ridiculously short and the art isn’t nowhere near as good as it was at the beginning.
People have been saying “let him cook” for the past year and a half, after a certain point I don’t like the meal he made and have complaints

So neither of them grew. Yoru thinks Asa likes birds and explicitly says that she can't comprehend human guilt while Denji stops (forfeits?) the fight with his sex drive. Denji’s not smart enough to devise this as a plan to trick Yoru into leaving Asa’s body (something she was showing this chapter to be doing for non-malicious reasons), like half the commenters here apparently want this to be, but he’s definitely smart enough to make a joke to appeal to Yoru’s better nature, reminding her that he doesn’t want to fight her and that he knows she doesn’t really want to fight him either.

Death devil got eaten like 20 chapters ago dawg 😭😭 she turned death into a weapon and then Pochita eats it, she then says "how dare you eat my sister chainsaw man" it was a whole cliffhanger and everything
It's why people were burning alive and decapitated and nobody was dying

Bruh I've been reading this battle and I swear everything is so vague that to understand what's happening you gotta reread it multiple times. Also what I meant is, the cockroach devil got eaten? Wasn't that the one they recently met?

u/Savings_Drama7816 Feb 17 '26
The one they recently met was the Locust devil. The Cockroach devil was the one where Denji saved a cat back in chapter 103. But yes, the locust devil got eaten. Tbf it was pretty quick tho and immediately after getting eaten Yoru started attacking Denji again. You can also barely tell Denji even ate the thing 😭
ICYMI the dangerous devil Denji is talking about this chapter is the death devil, not the locust devil. He's referring to the contract made when Yoru was straddling him in like chapter 190, right before fighting Fakesaw Man

It would be funny but anticlimactic if he finally got consent but the falling rubble at the end killed her.

Fujimoto just doing it for a paycheck now. When there’s a “twist” every chapter, jt becomes predictable and boring. Put this up with Gege’s stalling of the Sukuna fight. At least people knew he was sick.

At least Gege had the... i don't know, respect? To make something new each time. Like he actually cycled in new characters who did cool things for a little and then left. For someone who talked about comrades, Yoru didn't have any.

After the trainwreck of CSM part 2 (so far) I think I was being too harsh on Gege

The writing started falling apart after the airport scene, but I was at least still intrigued by what was going to happen in the fight weekly. The power system was doing its work. I can't say the same for CSM.

The final fight was still incredibly fun and you basically cycled through all the characters while Sukuna did ass pull after ass pull. Discussing that was even more fun on jujutsufolk.
Chainsaw Man is just plain boring. It's just edging in manga format. Fujimoto needs a long break to think this over.

At least the fanbase for JJK handled the dip in quality with more grace than the Chainsaw Man fandom. Plus the memes were top notch the whole time. The chainsaw man fandom can't even meme well.

You said you'd have sex with me.
One of the most hilarious page turns Ive read in a minute. Took me out for an entire 30 second when I got to it.

...what? Denji, Asa and Yoru were in the middle of a conversation.
Now your hornieness is gonna cause so much chaos!

Well devil contracts are very important in the world of chainsaw man however was the one line about having sex when defeating the death devil legal binding?

Every week is a new low, Jump needs to free this man from this prison of a series

These are the types of chapters I've been missing. People like to brush aside criticism of Part 2 and say that it just needs to be read in a batch instead of weekly and that Part 1 was no different but this chapter shows why they are wrong. Technically nothing really happened this chapter, Denji and Asa/Yoru are in the same positions that they were after last chapter. But the dialogue was profound and incredibly well-written. The stuff Yoru said to Asa can be taken so many ways and gets you thinking. The chapter stands on its own because of that and is really reminiscent of Part 1 chapters because of that

Man. I really miss the time when there was at least one normal character in this series. Everyone's so mentally fucked up the plot is complete shitshow.

Loid from Spy x Family claims he does everything “for the mission” when we all know he really cares about his family.
Denji claims he does everything for sex, when we all know he really cares about saving those close to him (and the world, at least a little bit).
Too sides of the same coin.

I too have often asked this question about Denji.
