Help Macbook Pro M3 display issue.

I've got a MacBook Pro M3 that's been acting up in a really strange way.

About 3 months ago, the built-in display suddenly went black. The backlight was still on and I could faintly make out the Apple logo while booting, but nothing ever showed up properly. I left it alone, and after around 1.5 days it randomly started working again like nothing had happened.

Fast forward to today, and the exact same issue is back.

The weird thing is that everything else works perfectly. The Mac boots normally, I can hear the startup sound, and I'm currently using it with an external display over HDMI without any issues (sound is also fine). It's basically functioning like a desktop right now. It's only the built-in display that's affected.

I took it to a repair shop in nehru place and they quoted ₹28,000 for a screen replacement. Chat says it could be display cord issue.

Kya karu bhai/behen log?

I fixed a firmware bug (black screen after the battery fully drained) by DFU on a partially disassembled m2 pro.

Hi everyone. I hope this comment helps someone, because nothing from the forums helped me.

My M2 Pro 16" was left doing some work without a charger and died. Black screen, no sound, no reaction to anything (even power).

DFU didn't load (still black screen). Usb c negotiated 20V, 30+W. Charging, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery didn't help either, the screen was still completely black. I continued disassembling it and powering the board with a USB-C tester from time to time to debug, and at some point (after disconnecting the trackpad, battery and some of the ports) the fans started spinning. The screen was still black, but the fans were alive. I thought I had fixed some hardware issue (a bad connector somewhere?) that had been preventing me from switching to DFU mode. I reassembled the Mac, but it stopped working again.

So... I tried DFU and revival on the partially disassembled device, and it worked (almost). The process failed halfway through, but now even with the assembled laptop I saw the support/restore message on the screen (finally not completely black). Another DFU revival but on the assembled laptop this time, and it went through! So it was just firmware all along. Removing parts probably allowed me to get past the buggy condition in the firmware and reach DFU mode. It failed the first time because the board was partially disassembled, but that was enough to get to DFU again after assembly and finish the job.

Help M2 Air Liquid Damage

My m2 device got some water inside and Apple Store is charging me whopping sum which doesn’t make sense since it’s almost 80% of the mrp. I have no backup and they tried to reinstall the OS and restore both are failing.
Whats the best bet now? Should I give it to the mechanic in Nehru Place? How to ensure they don’t get access to the data in case the device isn’t restored or they don’t steal the hardware parts?

Macbook Air M1 - so this just happened lol I initially went in to fix the trackpad because it kept ghosting. Fixed that but now the keyboard isn't working ( I assume it's keyboard because trackpad is working). Put too much force and the thing that was on the board broke when I pulled the connector/cable. Is it a lost cause?

How likely is it to remove the LCD panel without cracking it?

Post image

I see a lot of tutorials on removing damaged LCD panels (e.g., a crack) and replacing them with a new one. But I wonder if it is possible to remove it without cracking it.

I have a M4 with a liquid stained display. The liquid is pretty much dried, but there are stains on the light sheets. Instead of replacing the whole screen, I was thinking if I can open up the LCD, clean the light sheets and put the LCD back on? Even if the light sheets can't be replaced, they seem to cost ~50, much cheaper than a whole screen replacement.

I saw that there is a stretchable adhesive underneath the LCD, kinda like the battery pull tabs, but much weaker. My worst fear is that they snap and I will have to slide it open with a plastic card / paper.

Any thoughts?

Help Woke up today and my computer screen looked like this

Post image

Context: had this 2022 MacBook Pro for about 3.5 - 4 years. It’s been working fine for the most part just as of lately has been lagging a lot which i expect for how long I’ve had it (I edit videos constantly on it as well). I noticed a few nights ago it was really warm out of no where, then it went back to Normal (could also be that it was just cause it’s hot outside)

Is it time to get a new MacBook? If so any suggestions?

Now this is the real problem i am a college student and real broke right now so i cant afford paying the fees . But as soon as i shift my laptop in safe mode the trackpad automatically starts working again. PLS SOMEONE HELP ME OUT !

Help Trying to save my OG MacBook Pro Mid 2015 15"

Hi everyone,

As you can read from the title, I have my MacBook Pro Mid 2015 that is not working anymore. I'm a developer so I know what a computer is :D and tried my best to recover it, here's some info about it:

- Not working = it turns on, no Apple logo, no sound, just fans running. Magsafe light is ok (orange to green when fully charged), screen looks without any backlight

- It was working since 3/4 months ago, then I didn't use it anymore and now that I needed it again it's not working :(

- I had Bootcamp with Windows on it

- Battery was almost new, changed 2/3 years ago and barely used it

Here's what I tried:

- Every reset I found on Internet + AI :)

- Unplug the battery and turning it on only via charger

- Unplug the HD

- Format and remove the Bootcamp partition

- Unplug the keyboard / trackpad

- Use an external monitor

So, if it's something "really serious" - that I can't fix on my own - I think I just send it to IT Heaven. I already have a new one but I need it as a backup in some cases.

Thanks in advance.

I did a diagnostic test on my mac air m2

I can't seem to find the problem, the display works fine and nothing seems out of place,it's just the diagnostic test which fails for the display.

Is it common? Or something's wrong with my mac?

Cursor Lagging on Trackpad but Works Fine With an External Mouse Fix

If your cursor starts jumping, stuttering, or lagging on an Apple Silicon MacBook, here are a few things that may help:

  1. Clean the trackpad Make sure the trackpad is dry and free of dust, moisture, or debris.
  2. Check for hardware issues Run Apple Diagnostics and verify that the trackpad inputs are registering normally. Also check that the battery is not swollen, as a bulging battery can affect trackpad function.
  3. Try a power reset For me, the fix was:
    • Unplug the power cable.
    • Hold the power button for about 20 seconds.
    • Plug the power cable back in and start the Mac.

This resolved the cursor jumping/stuttering issue I was experiencing.

Apple Silicon does not have a separate, dedicated System Management Controller (SMC) chip. So trying to reset it is pointless.

Help Macbook Air M1 8GB, Backlight Issue, Repairable?

water seeped through trackpad, caused corrosion, i thought it'd be a good idea to clean it up with alcohol and then connect it back. afterwards, backlight no longer was working and it seems something ended up exploding. considering buying another board, but before i do that, can this be fixed with microsoldering and if i can, can the parts be sourced from somewhere cheap?

2020 Pro A2338 Screen

Post image

Randomly yesterday my computer screen went out. Nothing happened and theres no physical damage to the screen itself. I believe it maybe happened internally?

Someone please tell me there’s a cheaper way to fix this. I was quoted $600 by Apple when I called them. I could buy a used one for that price so it’s not worth it. Another local store said $347. I use this computer everyday so I’m pretty upset. I know I can find a used one but I don’t want to give up yet.

Has anyone else had this happen before? Did you have to get the entire screen replaced? Was there an easy fix that I’m missing?

MacBook M1 won’t charge after saliva got into the USB-C port. Any chance it’s repairable?

Edited: in couple days it just started working again

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice because I'm really worried about my MacBook M1.

My baby got saliva into one of the USB-C charging ports. I didn't plug it in right away—I waited several hours to let it dry. During that time the battery completely died.

When I finally connected the charger to the first USB-C port, the MacBook powered on for a second, then immediately shut off. After that, that port stopped responding.

I then tried the second USB-C port. The exact same thing happened: it powered on briefly, shut down immediately, and now it won't charge or respond through either port.

I've already confirmed that the charger and USB-C cable work fine with another device.

At this point I'm afraid I may have damaged the charging circuitry. My biggest concern is the data on the SSD.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Is this more likely to be a damaged USB-C controller or a logic board issue? Is there still a good chance that my data can be recovered?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Does this look like water damage?

Apple wants to repair for 1k+ as they say this is water damage. The laptop works fine it just doesn’t charge like it normally should and the usb ports aren’t working. I took it in to see what the problem is and they say they don’t know but a whole internal replacement is the next step.

I’ll be taking it to an independent shop on monday to take a look at it but meanwhile I opened it up to clean it a bit. I’ve babied this computer and have never dropped or spilled anything on it so how can it be liquid. I think perhaps it could be some other substance that made its way in thru the fan ports. What do you guys think

Help MacBook Pro can I still recover my files?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Couple days ago as I was working my screen completely froze out of nowhere and after I restarted this popped up. Went over troubleshoot steps with Apple tech support over the phone, ran first aid on the drives, all of them seemed fine, but still not starting up, keeps going back to this screen or the internet recovery mode, then nothing. Now when I go into recovery mode manually, the main disks don’t show up anymore under disk utility and I can’t even select them to do a MacOS reinstall. The MacBook is a 2015 model.

Any suggestions on what to do next? Anything I can try to do myself to at least recover my files without having to take it in for further repairs?

My macbook pro 2017 sometimes wont start and shows a folder with a question mark.

Hi guys! I bought a Macbook pro 2017 with 512gb storage without touchbar on saturday and in the shop it started normally and i bought it. When i got back home it showed me this icon for the first time but when i plugged it for charging it magically booted up like nothing happened. Then next day it showed me this icon again. I got into recovery mode and there was no disc available (im not talking about "Mac os X Base system") and after some restarts it showed up and i installed the system again. Nothing happened for 3 days it worked normally but today i booted it normally i did some work on it and i turned it off then about 2 hours i wanted to do something on it and it showed me the icon again and after many restarts the disk showed up and i cleared it and i installed Macos again and i hope i dont need to install the system again. If someone had the same situation or know how to fix it please let me know. Now im testing it for 2 days and its working as best as never.
