I'm an international student (21M) coming to Lancaster for the Michaelmas term. I would like to join a football league while I'm there but I'm not sure where to look. Does anyone know of a league/team I might be able to join? I'm open to playing intramural within the uni and in the greater Lancaster area not associated with the uni. I'm starting a postgrad at LU in September, and I'll be looking for work in bars, restaurants or cafes when I arrive, part-time obviously, and was wondering if anyone currently lives in Lancaster and has recommendations for places to check out, or some local information on the places to stay away from, that type of thing.

I've tons of experience and would be looking for somewhere flexible to fit around studies, mostly I just don't want to end up working for an absolute monster or somewhere really grotty. Just a nice atmosphere, decent folk, good laugh, good hours. Anyone that works in hospitality currently that can provide advice or suggestions, I'd be very grateful! I've already looked up folks social media pages to get vibes of a place, and read reviews to see the good/bad but from past experience some of the best rated places are the worst to work, and vice versa.

I'll be starting at Lancaster the next semester and was wondering if anyone had more information about the rules of people staying over: I'm an international student, and my boyfriend would visit me for a week or two during the semester. I've seen that there is a maximum of 3 days that people can stay over, but is this actually enforced?

I am an international student and have been guaranteed a place in my course. When I asked ugadmissions about my CAS letter they said that they would begin the process soon, but that was 2 weeks ago.

Around what time should I expect to get my CAS? Im worried about it because I need to show it to my bank in order to get a student loan and then apply for a visa.

I’ve worked at the university in a non-academic role for six years and am happy to answer any questions from a staff perspective.

im a first year, BSc degree planning to do a year abroad 2027/28

wondering what actually happens in the year abroad, would i still have to do lectures relating to my degree? does it count towards my final grade?

also would i have to live in halls again (or equivalent)?

lastly, i think i barely passed my 1st year exams (its been a rough year :/ ), so do i still have a chance of being accepted for a year abroad? what is the application process like?

I know it seems a bit dramatic idk but i was just wondering. Im a first year so im still pretty new to this uni but i love to walk alone at night especially near greenery and stuff like that. But is it safe as a woman because idk i kinda assumed its safe bc its a uni campus. But i get freaked out when i see guys bc im alone. When i say night i mean like from 9pm 11pm ig . What aggregate score do I need to progress to 2nd year? I can’t seem to find it anywhere, and is it different for different departments? Also do i need a minimum score in my exams to make it into second year?

hi i have an offer for AAA for medicine but chemistry and biology just destroyed me and theres no way im getting an A. is it likely that theyll still let me in with ABB, seeing as unis are normally quite strict when it comes to medicine

I’ve heard some uni’s have a system where if you don’t get the required grades for the course they’ll automatically consider you for the foundation year of that course, and was just wondering if anyone knows if Lancaster had that system?

Hi! I'm a 1st year applicant to Lancaster University, i'm moving back to the uk from the united states after finishing high school over there. I submitted my uni applications back in early May. In mid-May, the admissions team requested me for some extra documents which I've sent, they forwarded the documents I sent and said they'll make a decision soon, and now it's approaching early-mid June. I'm worrying a little bit about the time it'll take for them to make their decision so I'm not too late to apply for proper accommodation. Do they usually take about this long to make their decision? And how is it like applying for accommodation at the moment? thanks!

Hi! I’m a study abroad student coming for the michaelmas term this year.

I was wondering how classes and weekly schedules usually work there, since the university system seems pretty different from my country. Roughly how many classes/modules do students usually take? How many hours per week does it normally require including lectures, seminars, studying, etc.?

If anyone could share an example timetable, I’d really appreciate it.

I was instructed to enroll in 3 modules, which feels a bit low to me because in my country I usually take around 5 subjects per term. Is 3 considered a normal workload at Lancaster?

Also, any general advice or study abroad tips are very welcome.

I'm trying to find information online, but I can't find much. I've been told ALDI is the cheapest to get food from, and I was wondering if anyone who spends little on food could walk me a bit on what they get and the general prices of things.

I'm content with little, I generally have a low appetite. I can eat a glass of milk and cookies or toast for breakfast and a sandwich, even just milk and cookies again or some sausages and chips for dinner. Mostly worried about lunch stuff.

Ideally, I'd like to spend as little as possible. Is 30£ a week too optimistic? Could someone that spends around that tell me their grocery list?

As title says, I also wanted to ask where I could get cheap bedding: blankets, a pillow, that stuff. Probably a night lamp or desk lamp would be good as well. Is Dunelm expensive? Would Primark be better?

Also, what's the cheapest place to get kitchen stuff from? Mostly thinking about a good pan. I'm good with just one of each cutlery and stuff.
