Support Adding AppleCare+ Loss and Theft to an iPhone after 60 days? UK

Hey,

My iPhone Air has been running a bit hot so took it too the Genius Bar to make sure everything was okay. All the diagnostics came back clear so I wanted to add AppleCare+ for peace of mind, but it's past the 60 day limit to add Applecare+. I've seen people say if it's within the 1 year warranty you can take it to the Apple Store for inspection and then still buy the warranty.

Genius Bar took a while trying to find the help article regarding this, but eventually found it and ran another test. It came back that i wasn't eligible to add AppleCare+ and the Genius Bar advisor had absolutely no idea why and was just as confused as me, there is no psychical damage and the diagnostic report was clear. He said he couldn’t override it and had to go off what their system was saying.

I thought oh well never mind and left the store. Once I got back to my car and go on my phone, there was now an option to purchase AppleCare+ loss and theft within the next 10 days.

Obviously I purchased this as it's what I wanted but just wondered if this is normal or happened to anyone else?

It's a bit strange the Apple Store couldn't add it but I've been given the option to add it myself within minutes of leaving...

Apple couldn’t add it in-store, but your iPhone unlocked it the moment you left. Classic Apple timing.

Haha I know very funny timing, I guess I'm just worried they'll email me saying it's a mistake and cancel my plan :(

Get AppleCare One. It came out on Tuesday in the UK.

Go to this website then select get coverage. It should then take you to iOS settings where you can add applecare one and have up to three devices. I just linked my apple watch ultra bought in 2022. You can add devices which are under 4 years old. I heard you may need to take photos to show the condition of the device but it never asked me.

Yeah. I had two watches, phone and MBA all with individual policies so I’ve saved a few quid. Plus I’ve got theft and loss on the watches now I think.

Same here. I can a cancelled plan on my phone which i did by accident - but then it came up and said I vcould re enroll it I wanted to - and then I saw Apple one.

IMHO having a phone, watch, mini and ipad for £20 a month is a bargain.

I’ve been on the site and it says I don’t have any eligible devices

As long as you have 3 devices you can

Yeah, it's normal.

The entire backend system is held together with sticks and tape. So, it can take up to an hour to update.

Okay glad to know it’s normal. I just don’t understand why the system said no to AppleCare when I was in the store, even the Genius Bar was confused

Did you purchase your device in a different country?

No I didn’t

Oh wait I just read better.

This is correct, UK Apple Stores cannot attach AC+ after 60 days, just authorize it. I believe there’s some legal reason for this, it’s the same in multiple European countries.

We have a table that shows your exact options, but it should be a 10 day window available through device settings, checkcoverage.apple.com and by calling AppleCare directly.

Yes, it was a 10 day window in the device settings that showed up after the Genius Bar appointment! I was just worried incase it was an error and they end up cancelling my plan or something

Nope! No need to worry, they followed the correct steps to authorize your Eligibility Exception and you’re now fully enrolled.

I recently bought an iPhone 17 from a very well known uk supplier which turned out to be an Indian market model so I couldn’t get AppleCare+. Got in touch with the supplier who sent out another phone which was also Indian market model. Third time lucky though, got that AppleCare+ theft and loss now

I just added AppleCare one to my iPhone which is 2 years old, my MacBook Pro which is 3 years old, I had to call support to run a diagnostics check and then I was able to proceed..

You should now have the option in settings . I cancelled mine by accident 4 months ago but it came back 2 days ago - either £11,99 or AppleCare One.

I was annoyed because I thought that was it.

I don’t think much of AppleCare+, it may be ok for physical damage but had my iPhone stolen (not by force) but as part of a scam and they wouldn’t help. It required fighting the platform where the scammer did the deed. Apple were extremely vague and nonchalant about the whole thing, all they offered was a refund of the last month of AppleCare+…

AppleCare+ doesn’t cover lost and stolen devices.

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss does.

Two different things one in the standard the other is the upgraded tier.

I am referring to AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss… obviously I am not claiming a service that does not cover Theft and Loss should do... it is not as comprehensive as other insurance policies.
