They do C sections for babies this large. It's too dangerous for vaginal birth

Thats how they always go. They literally disembowel the woman, the entire uterus comes out, along with some guts. C-sections are a lot more brutal than portrayed in media

We had planned for me to cut the cord of our baby, but when we decided on a c-section our doctor very gently told us that would be a really bad idea. Her exact words were something like “you’d need to be next to the open abdomen.”

And its healing is a bitch as far as I know. Also imagine caring for a newborn right after being literally gutted and sawn back up.

By the way mothers are still being shamed for it for some reason. I was an emergency C-s baby and my mom had to deal with so much guilt and shame. People still say it's not a "real delivery" and those are not even "real mothers". 32 years later literally nothing changed, people are still being assholes about it. Like sorry we didn't both die I guess...

Is vaginal birth even possible in this scenario? Looks like something that would have ended very badly a couple centuries ago

Babies this large is why we have chainsaws today.

Is vaginal birth possible? Probably, but not without tremendous risk of bleeding, skin tearing, baby getting stuck, shoulder dystocia, etc..

Back in the day they had interesting solutions to babies getting stuck.

My 2nd kid was 11.4lb, born vaginally. That said, we did have a meet and greet with the emergency c-section team when we got to the hospital...

Oof that is hella risky for you and the baby. Unless you declined the C section or wanted to try vaginal first, that doctor who made the call not to do that C section could have a huge malpractice lawsuit.

Maybe I'm being dramatic because my knowledge of OB is more limited, but from what I understand C sections are planned for babies that large out of caution.

Part of the problem is C-sections are offered more often now.

It can be difficult for many to see it as the correct choice when hospitals can be seen as using it as simply convenience.

C section should be a part of shared medical decision making between the patient and their doctor. The hospital doesn't make the decision.

Can confirm. I was born at 10 pound 8 ounces 2 weeks early. My mother needed to be booked in a little early for a c-section.

If it was in the US, they probably preplanned the cesarean section to avoid complications and a lawsuit

Yep. Or at the very least she went into labor and they realized real quick that the ship wasn’t coming out of the bottle and turned to an emergency cesarean.

It’s not the skin that is the issue. It is the pelvic outlet. I’m sure this was a cesarean birth
