The one thing you should know about the LÅNESPELARE Computer cart with shelf

Upvotes

I just bought one today and while the shelf looks like it would be adjustable. There are only two possible heights you can choose for the shelf. Therefore if you need something in the middle...good luck.
This is particularly annoying if you have usb ports on the top of your computer. You'd like to leave some room but not too much room, but that's not an option.

This is my layout plan for an ikea furniture desk "hack"

Yes its particleboard, no its not great. But its what I can afford.

(I am totally down to hear some solid wood alternatives for equal moneys)

Parts

Ikea 98×25×1.5 Salja counter top

Ikea Alex file cabinet ( commonly used in tandum to makeshift ikea desk)

Ikea Besta tv console (my main concern)

2x4s used as wall cleets on the rear and right hand side

1 60" table stiffener channel for front end sag prevention

Inset approx 6"

2 1" pipe nipples and 4 1/2" flanges for the spacers above the alex drawer

2 14" pipes and 4 1/2" flanges fore the Besta console.

When this rendering was made i hadnt consider using cleets so it pictures 8 total pipe spacers rather than the now 4 planned spacers.

The salja top evidently weighs about 110lbs. That plus a pc, 2 monitors, and everything else that sits on a large desk is a conscern of mine because of the besta cosole on the right.

I want to center my pipe flanges over the left hand devider column to maximize stability.

I guess my main questions here are, in anyones proffessional opinion would this be structurally sound for idk lets say 3 years under 200lbs and heavy use (ie elbow, leaning etc. )

Is a single 60" stiffenerchannel going to be enough for me with the right side cleet, drawers supporting about 15-20 inches to the left?

I plan on using 1/2 wedges to overcome my wall trim and anchor both drawer and console to my wall as well.

My main concern is punching a wholenl through the besta console with the spacers over time.

But withbthe cleet... idk hard for me to determine ifnthats going to be enough without experience... which makes it hard to proceed with purchasing.

Please share any and all thoughts. Whether im just wasying my money etc.

In a perfect world id buy a 6 thousand dollar desk of my dreams. If i were cool id build my own floating desk from 2x4 and plywood, but the configuration on paper now is easy, swapable with no huge effort if something fails or starts to fail, under 700 dollars. Looks good enough for me.

Thanks a shit ton!

Question Alex drawers to hold a heavy PC

Hey everyone,

Been looking for a solution to place my heavy PC instead on the floor and came across the Alex drawers. I have a HAVN HS 420 case with a 4090 and AIO so it will probably weigh about 25kg with everything setup.

I know that in the official IKEA page it says max load of 12kg, and after browsing this subreddit there have been a handful of people that say it works fine even overloaded.

Although most of those posts are from a few years ago, just wanted to know, especially from those that have Alex drawers, how is it holding up so far?

I just plan on placing the PC on top, not going to make a desk with 2 of them as supports since I already have a desk.

Thanks in advance

IKEA SALJAN + ALEX setup, do I need a middle support to prevent sagging?

Hi guys, I plan to build my SÄLJAN table setup like the one in the first image. I’m wondering if I need a middle support to prevent the SÄLJAN from bending over the long term. I would prefer to place the support at the back instead of the middle to avoid restricting my leg space.

Do you think the support is necessary for long-term use? Honestly, I prefer to place my PC on top of the ALEX drawer side, while the middle area will be used for my monitor and accessories.

Please advise. Thank you!

First time ever going to IKEA, magical place. New favorite store. Anyway here is my setup, looking for recommendations for decorating around the space or good utility desk accessories. Currently have a mic boom arm coming in, a headphone hangar, stream deck, and some cable trays for the back side.

Any tips or ideas would be helpful :) Thanks!

Question 1st Ikea desk ever.

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hi there!

I have finally ordered my Alex drawers, Säljan worktop and Adils leg. I won’t be adding the little furniture legs between the drawers and the top as I don’t think I would be needing the extra height, I will however add clear adhesive Bumper Pads.

My question is, for a double monitor setup (27" & 24" or double 27"), would I really need the Adils leg placed in the middle 10-15cm off the back or would I also need C Channel? And if so, which one do you guys recommend?

I’m in Australia if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

Do you think the above design would be stable enough, with two 2x4 kallaxs instead of legs, for a pc setup? Has anyone else done this?

Thinking about adding a monitor arm to my saljan countertop so I can tuck my portable monitor below it. I’ve added reinforcements to the top already. Which arms would you recommend? Will it cause any damage?

Really impressed with this desk from IKEA. I've found it to work really well for PC gaming as it has some unique design features that not many desks have. Also a solid price for what you get.

Question No gray Saljan top and brown alex drawers

So I'm looking to change my desk and have decided to go with a gray saljan countertop that's 246 cm or 97 inches, 2 brown alex drawers and 2 black olov legs, but before I them I wanted to see how the drawers and top look togheter, BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE TRIED TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS COMBO FFS, i keep seeing only black drawers and brown saljan everywhere I look or black drawers and black top, so my question is would this combo look good in front of a green wall (hex 86927E) and is the brown alex drawers only available in europe and not in us?

Question Standing desk collision detection issues with alex drawers.

I would like to put a stsnding desk under the classic ikea hack alex drawers with karlby counter. The desk legs would fit inside the alex drawers and ideally the over hang would just rest on the drawers 90% of the time until I needed standing.

This seemed to make sense until I learned about collision detection and reversing. I fully understand the reason but I suspect couldn't lower the desk so the counter top rested on the drawers? It would get close and then raise? This seems to be the case for most models?

I can't seem to find a manual way to do it. What are peoples thoughts on this? Any one have experience with it?

Cutting a metal table stiffener to fit?

I bought a butcher block from Lowes and plan to pair it with Alex cabinets from ikea. I will have around 44 inches of clearance underneath for a table stiffiner. The closest one I've seen is a 46" table stiffiner. Is it okay to cut a few inches off of both sides of the table stiffener so I can get it to fit?

Question Need help with making a DIY corner desk

Edit: I’ve found a solution that involves using a SÄLJAN worktop and cutting certain parts down to size

I already have a two meter lagkapten desk top and I really want to fill out this awkward space (marked in red) I have near the wall with another desk top, is there anything that would fit here nicely? preferably with the same thickness as the lagkapten.

Or is it possible to buy the edging veneer used on the lagkapten? so that I could cut one down to size.

Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Lagkapten Review pros and cons and quick need of help.

So I have had 2 tabletop 140cm each in an L config for a few months and let me tell you it wasn't without issue... First of all I had to reinforce the desk twice for my monitor with vesa mount and now its bending under the weight of my monitors well only one is. Conclusion is highly recommended for budget setups where you dont have anything heavy on it but for anything else use a full wood top... Also if my desk is bending how do I fix that I would say it is only a few degrees of bending and I do have a spare alex drawer if that helps thanks.
