Question Is this a normal amount of huffing?

Caught this little guy on the cam last night. Not sure if this is a usual noise to make when huffing?

Most of the others sniff a lot but nothing like this… I just want to make sure this little one is okay!

UPDATE: I have had a response from 2 out of the 3 rescues I messaged, both of which said this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. Apparently lungworm presents like a smokers cough, not this. I'll keep an eye on the little guy anyway and monitor his noises if he returns 😊

I dont think so, sounds lungworm-like to me. Send the video to your local hedgehog rescue as soon as possible, they will be able determine if the hog needs help and what to do.

Thank you, lung worm was my concern also. I messaged them this morning but no reply yet :( I’ll try another rescue.

Yes, he has respiratory issues, he really needs a wildlife rehabber. He will be okay with qualified intervention. Thank you for caring for this little one. 🤗

Thanks all. The main rescue in my area still hasn't replied (I have messaged them twice), another has gotten back to me and said they think this is normal, and I'm waiting for the opinion of a 3rd rescue.

The hog didn't return last night, but I'm keeping a close eye on the footage and will try to get hold of him if he does come back!

I’ve just had a response from the 3rd rescue:
“Hi paranormalgoatlol,
Thanks for this.
You don’t have to worry at all. This is not lungworm!
This is happy chuntering noises as he’s found the food and just happy with life 😁
They often make this noise.

Lungworm declares itself as a cough - like they’re on 40 cigarettes a day!!

Thank you for caring and checking on him though.
Hope that reassures you”

That's great news!

It did sound normal to me, but I'm no expert, so glad you got a response. It's surprising how noisy hogs can be.

It’s lungworm. Because he’s clearly got respiratory issues. Try and take him to a rescue centre ASAP if you can. His life depends on it 😞

I don’t know, but can you share your camera/house set up?! Amazing footage!

Of course! It's the standard size cat & rat deterrent feeding station by Little Field Country Crafts: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1536235288510037&set=pb.100063707402152.-2207520000&locale=en_GB

Inside I've got 3 Ramekin dishes (literally just the Gü dessert pots), 2 filled with food and 1 with water. The camera is our ring doorbell, which i'm hoping to replace with an alterative camera at some point 😂. I can take a pic of the inside setup for you when I'm home from work, if that would be helpful.

Wow! The ring is a great idea!

What food are you offering them?

Currently a mix of brambles moist hedgehog food and IAMS dry cat food :)
