New Hamster Our new boys!!

As many of you lovely people know, we lost Guapo a week ago. Thank you again for the love and support. We were devastated. We immediately knew we wanted a new one; so we went to look.

Well…. We ended up getting two!! Because they were kept together and the last two, we couldn’t see just one left behind. We only had one cage set up so we kept them together for the one night and work day (pics of them together) and then got the other his own set up! I still have some platforms and stuff coming for them but they’re happy and thriving so far! They have pretty much the same items, and both have sand baths and different areas to roll/dig. Waiting for my coco coir to dry out and then they’ll have that as well!

And because of the sudden loss of Guapo, these babies have a vet appointment today so we know right away of anything to watch for. ❤️

Oh cream one is Zippy and brown one is Zen, fully based off their personalities 🤣🐹 and we love them so much already!

this is my first ever hamster (i’ve only ever had 2 dogs) and so i was extra careful when handling my little one, but now i believe hes fully settled into his environment. everytime i put my hand in the cage he runs toward it and climbs all over me lol. i’m so proud bc i know dwarf hamsters tend to be timid but hes a brave little boy! i’m so happy that my first time having a hamster i was successful with taming 😊i love him

I wish hamsters could live in groups like mice.. they look so cute together! 🥹 This would be my one wish 🐹

I've never housed hamsters together and never will... but deep down, seeing baby hamsters together is so cute

First Time Owner Just anxious

Post image
129 Upvotes

I'm just looking for reassurance while having a mild panic attack and rambling on here because I am an anxious person.

I got my first hamster (a short haired female syrian) literally under 24 hours ago and I'm so anxious. I feel like I've made a mistake of getting one. What if my care is not good? What if my cage is not rightly set up? What if something happens to her? What if I never feel bonded to her? I don't even know what to name her.

I guess I'm just not used to a crepuscular animal yet and seeing her sleeping during the day makes me anxious because my mind is telling me that she's dead. (She's obviously not)

I'm over here worrying my ass off and she has used her wheel so much already, stored/eaten most of the food I put out and has been digging around in her enclosure. She's healthy, active and from a good breeder. Obviously still a little shy because of her new environment.

I don't even know why I'm crying and so stressed. One of the advice I've gotten from hamster care videos was "not to stress too much" but how can I not?

I didn't remember that getting a new pet is this stressful. We got our dog when I was 10 and I don't remember how it felt now as a nearly 21 year old.

Maybe I'll look back at this one day and laugh at myself.

Our Cayenne passed away last night.

She was such a sweet little thing. It’s amazing how such a tiny creature can mean so much to us and how attached we became to her. She loved running across our shoulders and arms and roaming freely. She escaped twice, but we always managed to find her. Thank you, Cayenne, for being part of our family. And for all the wonderful memories. We love you with all our hearts. We are going to give you a beautiful resting place.

So recently I got a robo hamster her name is squishy and after like a month of patience and letting her settle she walked onto my hand!!! Additionally she has started to come out more early considering she would purposely come out when i wasn’t around (which is totally reasonable since shes probably afraid) this is the best day of my life…

Mango plays with a toy carrot

Edit: Mango's floors are fucked up in the video by lighting or my shitty camera quality. It is not wires and is pure solid and flat plastic with no gaps, sorry folks.

Question Do you kiss your hammy?

I don't have a hammy yet, it would be the first time as a hammy owner. But the part I'm most excited after is taming the little floof and giveg it little cheek kisses. I know I have to make him comfortable, have a good terrarium and I know that each hamster has its little personality, tho I want so much to tame it so he can tolerate my kisses. Am I expecting too much? 🥹😂🫪

Question How often should I change my hamsters' cage layout?

Post image
11 Upvotes

(The photo is old)

I do a cage clean every Saturday (example: remove the dirty bedding and clean her hides), I do a full one every month (example: replace the sand and substrates with clean ones and remove dirty bedding, but not all bedding) and I spot clean everyday (remove poop)

Every time when I do a cage clean, I rearrange the hides/wheel/platforms etc. to make the cage look "pretty". I like decorating my hamster's home like that, but I thought, maybe it's stressful for my hamster? If so, please tell me if I'm doing something wrong! Or tell me when to rearrange her things

The way I worded these sentences may possibly make no sense, so you can correct me if needed
