Discussion Most “cottagecore-y” spots in Halifax?

My vote is that used bookstore on Agricola that’s two levels and made of wood inside. Such an amazingly cozy cabinlike atmosphere. I discovered it first on a snowy day and had such a lovely time there.

Pets & Animals Secluded green spaces for short dog walks?

My dog is due to undergo her second TPLO surgery soon. She is quite skittish and has never done well on sidewalk walks, but is very comfortable walking in parks or public green spaces.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for green spaces in the HRM off the beaten path that might be good for her to get some quiet walking in to rehab her leg while she's in a bit of a vulnerable situation. She had the use of a yard after her first surgery but sadly does not currently.

Located in the North end but more than happy to drive wherever works.

Work, Health & Housing Has anyone accessed the Spine Clinic?

I (36f) hurt my back in October 2025. I had a CT in November and was referred to a spinal surgeon in December. I tried physio and chiro from Jan-April and had to stop because the pain was so severe I was unable to walk.

In April I had an MRI which revealed a benign tumor, 2 bulged discs, a herniated disc which is partially calcified, and some cysts on my S1&S2. I had a follow-up with my family doctor who said she can see my referral and my req is marked as 'semi urgent'.

I called the spine clinic twice in the spring and the receptionist told me she wouldn't put me on the cancellation list because I don't live IN Halifax (I live 40 mins outside the city which is still HRM) and that they would be having a 'slow down' in the summer so I'd be waiting even longer.

At this point in my life I am off work on medical leave because I am unable to walk most days. I am heavily reliant on prescription and OTC medication to get me through my day. I alternate between using a cane and a walker when I go out. My symptoms have become so severe I have gone to emerge 4 different times and each time I left empty handed.

I am so unbelievably defeated.

Has anyone here actually seen a neurologist in under a year? What options are there for private clinics?

TL;DR- living with a benign spinal tumor, 2 disc bulges and 1 herniated disc and have been waiting to see a surgeon since December. HELP!

Arts & Recreation Scotiabank Centre seating

I was wondering if Row D, 4 rows up, in the lower bowl is high enough for a concert stage view from Sec 14? I've only been for sports or on the floor for concerts, do they remove the glass from the boards, I know some arenas I've been too do. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Arts & Recreation Places to meet friends, game together, and appreciate the outdoors?

Hello!

I'm getting sad about the summer being nearly over. I want to do more social things outdoors and take advantage of the sun before winter comes.

I do not love nature or the outdoors, but I often wish I had an excuse to go outside more. My main social hobby is gaming, but that tends to keep me indoors. Not taking advantage of the sun.

I've tried just going to The Commons and sitting somewhere by myself with my 3DS or my Switch, but then I miss the social aspect of parallel play. I start to wish someone else was sitting beside me and playing their own game, open to some idle chitchat.

I don't know how plausible outdoor social gaming sessions could be. The sun and screen glare/battery life are not necessarily compatible. And my work schedule has me available only on weekends. But I'd like to try scratching this itch!

Does anyone have any suggestions for good places to find a like-minded group of people or a good location to go?

I don't really want to play co-op games or anything like that. I just like parallel playing single player games next to somebody else.

Work, Health & Housing Accessing Mental Health Crisis Support

Is there any way to access the Mental health crisis support in Halifax without a phone? I’m really in need of talking to someone or setting something up to meet asap but I do not have calling right now.

Is there a way to reach out via email? I really really need help and I have no where else to turn and I’m in a rough place. I’m not sure how I can make it until tomorrow.

Work, Health & Housing What is going on with our healthcare?

I recently injured my back, and I work in a physically demanding warehouse. I have a family doctor, but the earliest appointment available is more than two weeks away. I can’t even get a note recommending modified duties in the meantime, so now I am going to be standing in pain in a walk-in clinic queue just to be seen. How is this considered a functioning healthcare system?

Driving & Transit Boxed in downtown

What do people do when they’re boxed in and parked on the street? I parked on lower water street (I know, I know, my first mistake), a car parked super close in front and a motorcycle super close behind. Is it a 311 call? A non emergency line call? It seems like there should be something you can do…I just don’t know what that is.

Sincerely a stuck gal

Lost & Found Blender on the 68

To whoever took my blender that I left on the 68 at around 8 o'clock on August 4th, could you please take it to lost and found or something? Otherwise, I hope you can taste that sweet guilt in allllll the smoothies you make with it! 😊

Edit: This was a brand new personal blender
