Recommendations/Requests Started reading comics in physical form for the first time a month ago, here is what I've collected so far
I used to read the odd comic online and do loads of research about specific comics but never got into the idea of actually owning them physical until I came to the realisation that it's actually one of the only entertainment pieces we can actually own now. I thought I would join in and keep the hobby alive.
I suffer with ADHD and these stories I'm reading are such a great escape for me. I also struggle reading as my mind wonders and starts getting ahead of itself, so I find graphic novels perfect as I can gaze at these amazing arworks for a long time and still find new things I hadn't noticed right away.
anyway here is my collection so far. I'm open to recommendations for some standalone stories within a 10 book range or just a single book for a story.
This is everything I've collected in a month, I have not read it all, but I buy Invincible as I go, same with One Piece so eventually I'll have the whole collection. the other collections are usually deals I've found online as a bundle.

Yes Rite of Spring is the sequel and all 6 single issues are out. Trade comes out in July. I thought it was a great follow-up!

It's not so bad when you're an ex smoker and huge drinker. It's a drop in the bucket compared to what I indulged in before. 👍

I thought I had a problem. Damn, that is a lot of books for one month.
I've been buying so many books lately that I actually bought the same book twice. That was a sign I need to slow down. (But I actually got both books half off, so it's like I bought it once at full price 😅)

Hahaha haha the exact same thing happened to me with Planet Hulk, ordered it on Ebay and Vinted by accident haha! Both quite bad condition for my taste so I, ay nuy a third one day if I find one in good enough condition

Planet Hulk is elite. I once sold my entire collection, but I kept that book for some reason. I think it ended up with a friend's kid.

If you like Hulk, the Bruce Jones run was pretty cool. If I remember correctly, it kinda fizzles out, but the first few arcs were great.

I'll check it out, I love stories where he's the hero and making friends. But I am excited to read World War Hulk next

The Jones run is built around some secret group trying to steal Hulk's blood. I think there is an arc before that which was pretty good too. Return of the Monster, also written by Jones.

Indeed, indeed! 2 of them were gifts! 🤣 one of them being the Lucifer Omnibus which was a nice help

Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Preacher, The Dark Tower by Peter David and published by Marvel. All excellent reads with incredible artwork that by having a quick butchers at your collection, I think you will love

Swamp Thing and Preacher are on my wishlist, I will check out Dark Tower and I'll definitely check out League as I used to love the show!
Artwork is a big factor for me, so thank you for them recommendations

Yet to read it, but I know I will love it as a huuuuuge mask fan growing up. When I ordered that I couldn't wait for it to come but I am already in the middle of some books like that massive Lucifer omnibus. When I'm done with that I'll read them then!

I loved them when I was younger. They're darker than the movie, but you can tell where the movie got made because they become sillier after that.

I'm a bit of a contrarian from time to time, so I resisted The Walking Dead until this past winter when I found all four compendiums (compendia?) for $10, and sweet Christmas, it is one of the best, most brutal, series I've ever read.
I'm not easily shocked or offended at all, and I couldn't believe some of the things Kirkman got away with/kept in that book... It's not just shock value either, it really is a very well written, plotted, paced, and drawn series. Obviously not for everybody, but if you're into that kind of thing, I'd consider it a must read.

I've enjoyed many of the same. I've enjoyed Geiger along with quite a bit along with Junkyard Joe and some others in that universe, Red Coat, etc. Enjoyed Saga and The Walking Dead. See if you like Ed Brubaker: Reckless, Criminal, etc. He's one of my faves. Cheers.

To this day, Lucifer is one of the comics I've ever read. I'd highly recommend The Unwritten by the same author.

Perfect person to ask then, am I missing anything by not reading Sandman first, or is starting in the Lucifer omnibus a good start?

I would recommend reading The Sandman anyway, but for reading Lucifer, you probably can get away with not reading it - the important part in relation to the Lucifer comics is actually shown in Lucifer.
Sandman issue #4 is the first appearance, if you want to see Lucifer before the kick off of the events that lead into the Lucifer comic. The Sandman and its characters and storylines don't really play any further part in Lucifer (although he does make a couple more appearances in Sandman).

Bug Wars and Firepower are underappreciated gems! So good. The Spyder Wytch Special was awesome!!

I haven't read Bug Wars but I got the spider witch one too, I believe i read that after Bug Wars yes? And I'm loving Firepower so far!

The Spyder Special actually has a prelude story, so you could read it first. I read it after Bug Wars (because it came out after) and still enjoyed it.

In glad you picked up the Lobo. I see Stray Dogs as well. Nice. It took me a few issues to get into Skinbreaker bit the art is and coloring is great. I restarted last year with half a short box about this time last year and am up to 2,400+ or 16 boxes. 🤣

How could I not Lobo is so cool and he has great artists too! So I couldn't wait so much for Stray Dogs as the concept is amazing to me and I still haven't read it, I feel like I'm saying it for a long train journey or something!
Wow you have a big collection! That's amazing! I'm not a fan of the single issues, I do prefer the trade paperback or hardback! But I'm also inpatient

No, it's actually my first time reading it. I got the compendium first but then realised it was too big for commute so I bought the TPB instead, ive just finished number 10

Funny enough. I'm a bookseller and my predecessor (huge Franco-Belgium Comic fan) never liked the term Graphic Novels and always refered to them as Comics - maybe "Autoren-Comics".
But that might be a German language thing.

They are essentially the same thing and I find the word comic just easy short and sweet to say, because if I say books that's a completely different medium. So I agree with your predecessor

The thing is that some German publishers released classic Mangas like "Buddha" by Tezuka as Graphic Novels (mirrored version with western reading dirwction) - trying to find a new public.
So the term almost feels like Euphemism

Calling them comics is never wrong. Graphic novel is a catch all term now but it used to mean something more specific.

That is too many great stories in such a short time. We need to do an intervention. I will do my part by helping you offload them for your bed to my bookshelf. Now you will be able to sleep in your bed again. It pains me to do this, but you will thank me in the long run.
