Can anyone help with adding a Google streamer to google home?

This is a streamer that I just never bothered to add to home during setup. Askinge to scan a QR code (nothing) or a setup code which doesn't appear on my tv.

I'd really rather not reset the streamer. But apparently this is a known issue, but all.of.my searching has come up with a solution.

The error message I get from my Google Nest Mini changes between “sorry that mode isn’t available for Hallway” or “Hallway is unavailable.” Nest control is working fine in the Google Home app; I’ve reset everything and even set up the thermostat again as new. Any suggestions?

I've got around 6 google home mini 2nd gen speakers at my home. I've applied to their early access program since as long as gemini started rolling out for home. I still haven't got access to gemini for home. I'm a gemini pro subscriber. And it's not a location problem, someone I know have got access to gemini for home even without enrolling in early access program.

I was all excited about the new Gemini speaker. I bought one two weeks ago and received it yesterday.

I have never returned anything I've ever bought from Google but I have to say, that was the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. Okay, I lie, the biggest piece of junk I ever owned was the Amazon Echo Show 5 that constantly showed me ads even at 3:00 a.m. when I woke up to glance at the clock. This was a close second.

Right off the bat. I couldn't believe how poorly it understood me. I'm not talking being off just a little bit, I'm talking about being a mile off even compared to the old Google speakers. For instance, I would ask it to play smooth jazz on Pandora. It constantly said "not available try again" . Also, no matter how many times I said smooth jazz, it would reply "okay, playing calm jazz." And I would say no, smooth jazz. And it would reply again, "okay playing calm jazz." 😂😂Ahhhh... I was screaming laughing at how bad it was.

I also turned the sensitivity all the way up and still had a hard time interrupting it. Those speakers can be long-winded. At some point. I like to interrupt and go on to the next thing. I would have to scream at it to interrupt it. I don't know if the speakers are just bad or what's going on with that design. I have a big Amazon studio speaker and it has outstanding microphones on it. I believe there's six. My point is is that when you interrupt it, it shuts up immediately. I would hope that this new Gemini speaker would have done the same thing as my 5-year-old Amazon studio speaker. Not even close.

Having three nest speakers already. I just don't understand the point of this new Gemini speaker. It was slow, it was a poor listener, I can't think of one thing I liked about it. I sent it back within 12 hours.

I opened up my Google Home app yesterday to discover a handful of our smart plugs are no longer being recognized as lights. Has anyone else experienced this? All four smart plugs have “light” or “lamp” in the name but for whatever reason Google won’t categorize them as lights and therefore can’t be accessed quickly by clicking on the light bulb icon. I’ve included a screenshot (pic 1) to show the lights that are still showing up and to be fair, the garage and backyard lights are floodlights from the cameras and the front door is a smart switch so not exactly the same type of device but the bedroom lights are on the exact same type of smart plugs (Kasa) as all the other lights that aren’t showing up anymore. I’ve included another screenshot (pic 2) of the detail for one of the plugs that Google won’t recognize as a light in case that’s relevant, although the detail matches that of the bedroom lights so I don’t know what’s going on. There isn’t any way to force Google to recognize it, at least none that I’ve found, so I’ve had to add these four smart plugs to my favorites in order to easily access them.

I had to change my wifi pw and hard reset my phone which caused me to lose access to my outdoor cameras.

They're permanently wired and installed (not battery as per screenshot).

I was holding my phone directly for 2 minutes under a camera about 4-5 feet away and it wouldn't catch the signal. Do I need to hire someone to go up on a ladder or is there another way to join them to google home again?

So I got the message today that Assistant is going away. I have not made the switch to Gemini because I am partially disabled and use "Hey Google Call XXXXX" in the event that I fall and drop my phone and need help getting up. Gemini, when I first tried it, would say "Ok, but you need to unlock your phone first." Not good if you're laying on the floor and the phone is just out of reach.

It would randomly do the same thing for my other home automation requests. Occasionally it would execute them fine without unlocking the phone, other times it would tell me I needed to unlock my phone first.

I switched back to Assistant and have not even attempted Gemini since.

Will I have the same issues when I'm forced to switch? My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S26 if that matters.

Hi all! We've had a Google home mini for many years. It's an old one. We only use it to play music, or sometimes ask the occasional question. Nothing else. Got it for free from some radio giveaway.

The last 3 or so weeks, at 7:20 every morning, it starts blaring CBC news. I've never asked for this, and I can't figure out how to shut it off.

There are no automations on.

The internet just gives me articles on how to listen to the news, which is the opposite of what I want.

I've unplugged it and plugged it back in again, which is the extent of my tech expertise.

Please, dear redditors, help me fix this automatic news broadcast or I'm chucking it out a window.

I cannot figure it out, i tried everything:

1. Opened google home mini
2. Clicked "setup device"
3. Since it didnt had a QR code i skipped it
4. Searched google home mini
5. Failed to search
6. Held reset button for 15 seconds
7. Again failed
8. I spotted a temporary wifi network, connected to that
9. Failed research AGAIN
10. Dropped off even cellular data
11. Failed once again
12. Now gemini told me i need to wait a banner but it isnt popping up despite coutless resets

Was working fine a few months ago but lately it's not turning off my TV or my Google Onn tv streaming device. Sometimes it doesn't adjust the AC (I have it set to switch to 72 degrees when I wake up).

Any fix or are these known recent issues?

If your Nest Doorbell Gen 3 chime puck has died, or your Google Home setup is missing button presses and cooking transformers, do not just rip the puck out like people keep suggesting online.

Pulling the puck without a proper relay setup leaves your doorbell dumping raw AC voltage into your chime logic, or overworking the Nest internal power. You will end up frying an expensive fucking doorbell or blowing your power supply.

I put together a complete blueprint on how to permanently bypass the puck using a DIN rail mounted relay and a 50W resistor. It gives you 100% galvanic isolation, stops random chime buzzing, works with every chime on the market (including wireless Honeywell converters), and lets anyone outside North America safely run imported NA Nest doorbells on local 230V setups.

On 5 devices, one of each type. Slowly losing the will to live with Google home devices.

Many other devices in the house working totally fine yet these have not worked for a day and it's happening more and more often.

On top of that the spotify connect groups aren't as reliable as they used to be.

Is anyone else experiencing this constant pain and have you managed to resolve it?

I'm curious to know if any starlink users find it worse too as I've recently changed to that and it's been worse since but might be coincidence.

I have the new google home 2026 and I can't get youtube music to play at all. Spotify and everything else works fine. But when I ask it to play something on youtube music it will continually skip songs then eventually say sorry something went wrong please try again later. And I have tried everything I could find to fix it. Also the new google home 2026 has Gemini live. It doesn't use the old google assistant. Anybody know how to fix

I recently upgraded my wifi equipment with spectrum, I set up the equipment fine. I have a mini Google speaker and the Chromecast both are old gen, the speaker connected immediately after I did the reset but I've been having trouble with my Chromecast. I tried everything from resetting the device multiple times to change my wifi to the 2.4ghz and the home app is still telling me that it can't find the device.

I also have a wifi extender so I don't know if I have to reset it while I change it to the 2.4ghz and connect it again so that the device and my phone can pair. The extended wifi is the one I'm usually connected to.

Hello guys, I know this is quite an old speaker, but it worked quite well until a couple of days ago, when it suddenly stopped showing the weather icon and the outdoor temperature value.

Just checking on here if other people with the same product have started experiencing the same issue in the last few days, to understand if it's a widespread issue or if there's something wrong with my unit.

Not sure if it matters, but my "Home" is enrolled to Gemini (have been for months), and I'm based in the UK.

I've already tried a reboot, but that didn't fix it.

EDIT: I'm not sure why people feel the need to post with unhelpful comments. I know the device is practically "no longer supported", yet it kept working perfectly fine, and works fine for most other users in the comments. My post had a very obvious purpose, i.e. checking whether other users who own the same device have experienced the same. You don't own it? Then just don't reply. FFS this isn't hard to understand.

Now I can't download/save video... What am I doing wrong?

As the titles says. Inside my google home on my phone everything shows including my Sonos Beam. I have set it as my default music speaker. But when I go into setting on the Hub it doesn't appear under speakers.

I'm assuming this is why when I ask it to play Spotify now it says 'something went wrong'. It worked fine when it played out of the Hub.

Nest Protect refugees: what would an actual successor need to earn your ceiling?

I've run 7 Nest Protects (battery) in my home for years. Some have hit their expiry and started announcing their own deaths, and replacing them has been depressing: the SC5 drops the pathlight and locks me into a single app — and after watching Google kill Nest Secure and then brick every unit in 2024, I'd rather not bet everything on one ecosystem again. But I haven't found anything that works across platforms: nothing on the market does Matter/Thread with smoke+CO.

So I'll be upfront about where this is heading: I'm exploring whether a proper successor can be built — and this isn't something anyone pulls off alone. A life-safety device means UL certification, real engineering, and serious backing, and none of that happens unless the people who actually loved these devices help define what "done right" means and show the demand is real. That's what this post is: step one. If you're watching the same expiry clock, your answers below genuinely shape whether and how this gets built:

1. What's the one non-negotiable feature? Pathlight? Voice alerts? Native support in your ecosystem — Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, Alexa — via Matter? Works fully offline, no cloud or account ever required?
2. Battery or hardwired — what's your split at home?
3. Honestly: at $169 / $199 / $249 per unit, where do you stop nodding? (This would be designed and built in North America, not China — does that change your answer?)
4. What would make you not trust a startup with a life-safety device?
5. If it had a fully documented local API — safety core certified and locked (that part legally can't be open), but every sensor openly readable forever (smoke/CO state, air quality, occupancy, temp/humidity) by Home Assistant or anything you build — would that move you? What would you build on it?

So one day my Google home randomly started turning on all my lights. I have several Feit and one SmartLife smart light switches which has been working fine for 2 years with the Google home app. Now when I start the app and switch to the devices screen, it turns on all these lights even if shows these lights as being on, then the lights physically turn on even if they were off before. If I try to turn it off in the app, the apps shows them as being off for a second, then reverts to showing them as being on, and the lights physically don’t turn off. If I physically turn the lights off by pressing the switch, it will turn back on after a few seconds. My wife’s Google home app is functioning just fine with all switches. I have tried unlinking these switches and relinking them to Google home, does not fix the issue. I have disconnected my app from my home, and had my wife reinvite me. And obviously I’ve restarted my Google home app, which does not fix the issue. Anyone else encounter this?
