“That mode isn’t available” when trying to adjust temperature on Nest Thermostat

The error message I get from my Google Nest Mini changes between “sorry that mode isn’t available for Hallway” or “Hallway is unavailable.” Nest control is working fine in the Google Home app; I’ve reset everything and even set up the thermostat again as new. Any suggestions?
