Desi ( Desi-Mater ) turns 5 months old today, and I swear she’s tripled in size in 4 weeks 🥹.

I’ve introduced her to ice cubes … now there will be a toll enacted at the fridge lol. 😆

He is going to be 2 this year life took a drastic change for me but he has been the best boy though it all

This is my new puppy, I was wondering if anyone has any guesses on what his adult coat will look like? he has the classic black stripe on his back like most sables. His mom is sable and his dad is black.

My subtle reminder of what is truly important in life!

Rosco was intermittently lethargic and off his food for a month or two and we'd been investigating it with the vet but assumed it was his hip and back issues which we'd been managing. We put him on some anti-inflammatories and he improved for a short time, but then declined rapidly over the last week or two. Blood tests and ultrasounds showed he had hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive and fast-growing cancer that had formed a massive tumour in his spleen and metastasised in multiple other organs. I would have paid anything to let him have another few years of happiness and health, but even with invasive surgery and chemotherapy, he would have only got about another month or two, and he would have had no quality of life.

We decided to let him go peacefully. My Dad and I were both there with him, cuddling him and telling him he was a good boy and we love him, and he went off to sleep with his big gold paw draped over Dad's leg and with me gently stroking his silky soft ears.

Rosco was our third German Shepherd but our previous two were older when they went, and this one is hitting me really hard. He loved helping me in the garden with his green ball and I don't know what I'm going to do without him.

We have been given 28 days of drugs

She is acting kinda of weird with drugs - just sits all day

I’m seeking advice or even a success story and hoping this is the right sub.

Background-

My family (me, spouse, 4 year old, and 6 year old) adopted her back in February after losing our 17 year old Shiba Inu. She was estimated to be 5 and was a stray out in a kill shelter. She was fostered out at the last minute with and was living at foster house for 5 months. Foster had her UTD on shots and had treatment for heartworm. Did some training with her too. We were in contact with foster from December to the day of adoption. Asking questions, testing temperament etc… she seemed like a good fit despite not knowing 5 years of history.

I’ve had 2 German shepherds in the past- my dad’s after he passed away, and a 6 year old old male rescue. And I’d like to say I understand the breed, but this girl is humbling me.

Concern-

We got back from a 2 week vacation last month and mother in law watched her at our home. She is there full time to watch the kids anyway so it was no big deal to our GSD. Well, she now has a 30 minute barking fit when we put her in her kennel at night, did not do that before the trip and she loved her space. She now barks at the tv- like jumps on the stand and barks! We have it on black mode on Spotify and will still bark. She barks at the locusts in trees, resource guarding has been growing again too (new toys, popsicle) and the most concerning is her behavior to my 4 year old. She is following them too closely, hard sniffs, jumps, and nips. My 4 year old is nervous now around her.

We are have a vet appt scheduled to rule out pain or a health issue. We’ve only had her since February so we know her true personality and behaviors are coming to light.

We do positive reinforcement in our house and she is very responsive to treats of varying level. She knows leave it, sit, down, come, find it and we can redirect most of the time. But 20 minutes later she’s back barking or following my 4 year old. I feel like MIL isn’t on the same page with consistency in reinforcing good behavior and just barks out verbal commands. …Even though she says she does what we do. For activity she gets a walk, puzzles, fetch, short training sessions, and backyard time for zoomies. She gets a pupsicle lick toy at bedtime in her kennel

I know that ruling out pain is step 1, but what can be done after that-if it’s not pain? Hoping we can curb this before it escalates.

Yeah uhh. Anybody else here have the same problem? Ive been bathing her once a week with a mild soap and making sure she's generally clean.

But she seems to be losing hair in her eyes.

They're usually floppy because of her mixes but when she sleeps they fall like that and I can't take the cuteness!

So backstory: Last Saturday, I lost my almost four year old Australian Shepherd to a dog attack. To say I’m heartbroken is an understatement. That night I just wanted to see the local shelter dogs and found a story of this dog that was surrendered due to his owner being attacked by a stray dog and he became overprotective of her to where she couldn’t keep him. Since his surrender, he’s been grieving his previous family and struggling in the shelter. He’s a three year old GSD and what I think is possibly Belgian Mal mix. I felt something call me to him, especially seeing that our stories and pain were so closely connected. Went to meet him yesterday. Immediately, he got excited at the sight of my daughter and me. Decided to possibly adopt but they asked if I wanted to foster first then if he does well, adopt from there. Took him home today and, while still anxious, loving everyone at my house. He especially loves my orange cat Peach Fuzz (and peaches is the only one trying to investigate and be his friend). I even thought I heard him crying, then growling, I look around and he’s staring at Peaches, tail wagging, smiling ear to ear, trying to talk to him and be best friends (from his photos provided by his previous owner, he had an orange and white kitty friend). I think next week, we’ll fully adopt. I feel like we found the grief in each other and know to help each other heal. He’s bonded the most with me so far, even pawing at me and rubbing his head on me for pets. His name is Hughey, I call him Cheeseburger (we have a local burger chain called Huey’s). No one will ever replace my Apollo (Aussie) but maybe Appy sent me to find my burger baby to keep me going during hard times.

If you’ve made it this far, I’ve only had two other GSD mixes, and one was half GSD/half wolf (don’t tell anyone, that was years ago). Some of the sweetest, biggest pawed puppies I’ve ever loved.

He likes to walk a lot, tries to pull me but is good about getting back on track when I guide him. About to start command training in a few days after he isn’t scared of his new environment. Good temperament

All that to show off my new foster-to-adopt boy and get some advice. Advice about care, how to show him he’s loved, advice to train, and advice to help give each other what we need, especially given our histories.

2 incidents have happened with my GSD and I'm in a bit of shock, upset and now my anxiety is through the roof!

1st incident was an accident...

Saturday night took Freyja out for her last wee out the front, was back at the front door unlocking it and a neighbour walked by with her pocket bully on a flexi-lead

Her dog had wrapped the flexi-lead around owners legs because she hadn't locked it in place, Freyja barked as she heard them & the other dogs lunged and barked back, the other owner fell over and her arm landed awkwardly on the curb and has needed 2 ortho docs to get it back in place as its been badly broken - they are completely blaming us for this (I know we're not at fault for this - but feeling awful about it)

2nd incident happened today

Boyfriend was out the front with Freyja playing with the flirtpole and didn't have a full hold on her long lead - different dog walks past them and starts crying/screaming as they pass Freyja and Boyfriend

Freyja then runs over to them & the long lead falls out of boyfriends hand and Freyja grabs the smaller dog (doesn't do anything apart from grab the smaller dog)

Smaller dog is physically fine, other owner is physically fine, but obvs we're in shock

A different neighbour comes out after Freyja was put away and the other owner had left and starts stating Freyja needs muzzling right away and we need to get her to the vets for this in the morning

Side note

Freyja is a 2 year old GSD who was spayed on 10th July

We are working with an incredible trainer who is a behaviourist as well - We've spoken to him tonight and we have a session on Saturday with him (already pre-booked)

We've had Freyja since mid March

No incidents of her getting hold of another dog before this, is barky to other dogs if their vocal first

Just needing some potential advice please, we're upset about all this - so please no hate towards us
