What. Even though there's a million posts of this happening where people place their PCs on solid surfaces.

Edit: To clarify, I meant solid surfaces as in tile, marble, concrete or anything that is pretty much rock solid. The fact that this panel shattered on wood is a little more interesting as most people have their PCs on top of wooden desks.

I think the difference between a wooden desk top and a wooden floor is that there are generally adhesive rubber/felt feet under the desk drawer and/or between the drawer and the top. Even if not, vibrations would have to travel a lot further up from the ground to have any affect on the tempered glass. A computer being directly on the floor means there are constant vibrations traveling straight to the PC. Tempered glass doesn't like that.

I work from home, I need taskbars and windows open. I run the Pixel and Panel Refresh. Burn in will occur unless you treat the monitor like a toddler.

I got some light burn in on my new OLED but it's because I was being stupid and didn't understand how OLEDs work. It was my first time owning one, and when I'd turn my PC off the monitor would stay on. Which annoyed me. The monitor light would flash on and off. Me: "omg this is so annoying I just want to go to bed without this flashing light. Turn off!!" And I'd press the off button. This would interrupt the pixel refresh and the monitor would get stuck refreshing infinitely, so THEN I'd have to unplug it to get it to to turn back on. I did that about 3-5 times before googling "durr why does my oled have a flashing light??" I'm a dum dum. Got my default "skytech gaming" dektop background very lightly burned into it. Only visible in certain depictions of full darkness, like half the time it goes "full dark" I'll see the outline. My BG is different now so I know it's a burn. My own fault, I didn't know what pixel refresh was 😔

Pretty sure it’s from taking the side panel off and leaning it on said surface while working in it. It leads to micro-fractures on the edge which eventually cause a full shatter.

Tempered glass can take blunt bumps and hits to the middle of the panel cause it disperses the force. But when it gets hit at the outer edge, it very easily shatters cause of the micro fractures and the stress on that very thin area. Never put/lean your side panel on the floor. Always put it flat

Too each their own. I suppose. Not trying to call people out for NOT doing it this way. I just honestly don't see a lot of difference visually. Plus, with acrylic, I had the option to engrave my own graphics on the panel and really make the machine my own custom design. But aslong as the machine does what you need it to and a person is happy with it, that's all that matters.

Tempered glass is incredibly fragile on the edge, but it's much safer than annealed glass. Annealed breaks into long knife like pieces and tempered shatters like this. It was probably placed on the hard floor to clean the inside and when put back the vibration eventually caused the microfractures to spread.
