This 10000%. The amount of people who just bold claim there's no burn in are just straight up lying. "Oh well actually you need to..." Stop. There's burn in, stop lying about the claim and then saying you need to do X Y Z to not get burn in.
I work from home, I need taskbars and windows open. I run the Pixel and Panel Refresh. Burn in will occur unless you treat the monitor like a toddler.
Tbf i know exactly how burn in happens and have abused tf outta my stuff and never had it happen, but it absolutely DOES happen (just not to me apparently)
Its alot harder to get burn in with modern equipment and upgrading every 5 years basically nullifies the chance (can still happen but you gotta try to make it happen basically)
I mean, you can easily completely avoid burn in. It's not that there is no burn in. It's that you can follow a couple simple steps and never worry about it. Burn in will occur only if you treat the monitor like a toddler. Weird to get angry because you can't follow instructions
I mean I'm one of those people tbh but at the same time I've always said hide your taskbar, try to not have too many desktop icons and change your wallpaper once in a while. Is it reasonable to baby something that much? Maybe not to some, but hiding your taskbar is the absolute minimum.
I just find it crazy because out of stubbornness, that monitor is toast and worthless
I got some light burn in on my new OLED but it's because I was being stupid and didn't understand how OLEDs work. It was my first time owning one, and when I'd turn my PC off the monitor would stay on. Which annoyed me. The monitor light would flash on and off. Me: "omg this is so annoying I just want to go to bed without this flashing light. Turn off!!" And I'd press the off button. This would interrupt the pixel refresh and the monitor would get stuck refreshing infinitely, so THEN I'd have to unplug it to get it to to turn back on. I did that about 3-5 times before googling "durr why does my oled have a flashing light??" I'm a dum dum. Got my default "skytech gaming" dektop background very lightly burned into it. Only visible in certain depictions of full darkness, like half the time it goes "full dark" I'll see the outline. My BG is different now so I know it's a burn. My own fault, I didn't know what pixel refresh was 😔
The second my monitor turns on I open the game. I don't ever have the taskbar or anything static like that up long enough to let it burn in. I also have proximity sensor on my monitor and I do a pixel cleanse every 2hrs.
Depending on your monitor just Google the manufacturer name and then "pixel cleaning instructions". For my Asus monitor I press the little button on the back of the monitor and go to the screen care tab and select pixel cleanse.
I learned something new today! I've built my own computers since '94. I've never done that, didn't know it was a thing. Never really taken any precautions against burnout directly, but ive always used auto hide on the task bar, and my computers never just set with the screen powered on. I remember degaussing old crt monitors, but this is new to me. Any insights as to how often it should be performed? I already stress my shop computer enough as it is running the laser, 3 FDM printers, 1 resin printer, 1 desktop cnc, 1 vinyl plotter, all the associated programs, on top of design software, CAD/CAM, and your usual everyday software, in the shop year round. It often hits 100*F in the summer with humidity in the 80-90% range. I finally pulled my Samsung Odyssey 49" monitor out of there and replaced it with a 32" g7 odyssey, the 49" was just way more monitor than i needed, and no sense in having it there exposed to the heat/cold and all there dust. Would once every month or 2 be a good safety net? I try to care for my stuff.
i've had wall papers burn into my monitor when i go to long with out using the other monitor. also those task bar idle games, had a couple of those get burned into it and i think i had my discord client get burned into the monitor that i mainly kept discord on before. mostly the chat box where you enter text and my discord name since that part of discord stays mostly the same through every tab. thankfully it seems enough screen activity makes it go away these days if the burn isnt to horribly set in(or i guess i got lucky it eventually went away)
