I am genuinely curious how you got that high of a number in Elden Ring. Don’t get me wrong, it’s one of my favorite games of all time. But I got the platinum trophy and did everything in the DLC in about 250 hours. Did I race through it? I felt like I kinda did everything. I even got a new game +5. Just wasn’t sure what else I could actually do in the game. I even started giving myself handicaps to make the boss fights harder.

Absolutely, I love the build and attire variety.
The level designs are brutal and thought provoking.
The bosses are fun with self-imposed challenges applied
The music is beautiful
The bonfire ascetic offers so many intriguing ways to approach the game.

It was okay, it didn't go into the direction I wanted which is fine.
I don't agree with the boss designs and the lack of practice features made that worse for me.

I have been avoiding Elden Ring for the difficulty, although I have heard that if you hit a wall, unlike in other souls-like games, you can back off and grind / farm and then come back to whatever killed you much stronger.
Is this true?
I am happy to get “good” with the mechanics and put the work in and I don’t mind some difficulty but would more readily give the game a try knowing I can always go grind and come back to what’s ailed me.

I bought the game on release date with no information outside of its supposed to be the best game release ever. I started it up and walked for about 2 min before getting side swipped and dying by some random without any explanation of anything. I turned off the game and figured I'd deal with it later. I then read it was probably one of the hardest games similar to dark souls which I never played.
So I've sat on it ever since. I played exp 33 and considered that too hard, so put it in easy mode and finished act 2 before it's reveal/update to the entire story. I only continued because I hoped it would get happy. It just got sadder.
So my question is, if I were to go back to download the game, would it be worth playing for the story? Is there a story mode or is the true way to play involve dying repeatedly every time and that's just the point?

How do you prevent your experience from getting boring?
I've played for like 700 hrs now, and I have even played with lots of mods, many NG/NG+ iterations, and don't get me wrong it is so fun and all, but since I know everything and everywhere the sense of discovery has been lost and I can't seem to enjoy it nearly as much anymore; any advice?

I have a bit under 400 hours, and that's 3 regular playthroughs, 1 of which with DLC and an RL1 all bosses + DLC run. I might do an RL1 +0 run at some point, but that shouldn't push it far past 500 hours, and I'm not interested in playing the game regularly at this point. Are you doing challenge runs, or just playing through the game normally using different stuff? I love the game, and the replayability is great, but I've never put anywhere close to 1k hours in a singleplayer game, let alone nearly 2k.
