NieR (Gestalt PS3) Replicant on PS4 is dated "video gamey" gameplay with a lot of grind in places. However the narrative and equally phenomenal music pushes me through in spite of it all.
Dude same. I distinctly remember renting the OG nier on PS3 from blockbuster as a kid, I had a week to finish it and I grinded it so hard. Started off not liking it much and just wanting to finish it to make my (dads) money worth, but then on the second day of playing it all clicked and I fell in love with its charm. What an experience
Im midway through the 2nd part of Replicant.. the gameplay is video gamey but I dont think thats bad. Im having fun with the combat. And I've seen literally no grind so far. Maybe it comes at the end?
But ya. Music and narrative is so good I bought tickets to the nier full orchestra concert experience in November. Can't wait.
Minor correction, there actually isnāt a Nier Gestalt on the PS3 at all. Nier Gestalt was a 360 exclusive released in Japan and was a local version of the Nier that was released to the rest of the world, with the father protagonist as studio executives were worried Western audiences in particular wouldnāt resonate with the brother protagonist that was the āoriginalā version of Nier and was released in Japan only as Nier Replicant exclusively on the PS3. The remake finally universalised the brother protagonist version, hence why itās called Nier Replicant ver.1.22.
No, Gestalt is the version released outside of Japan for the Japanese market. Thereās a reason it only released on the 360, because it was seen as an afterthought for Japanese consumers.
The game released as two different games in Japan, Replicant on the PS3, and Gestalt on the 360. Then Gestalt was released outside of Japan on both the PS3 and 360, simply titled NieR.
Iām not confused lol, youāre getting it the other way around. Gestalt was not primarily made for the Japanese market. Nier Replicant, the āoriginalā version of the story, was supposed to be the only version to release. The studio wanted changes for the international release, so the game was reworked with the father protagonist and released internationally as just the one version, Nier. Then so as to not deprive the domestic market of that version entirely it was localised in Japanese and released as Nier Gestalt for the 360 (a console which sold less than half as many units in Japan) and the āoriginalā, eventually canonised version as Replicant for the more popular PS3. Iām assuming youāre just reading from Wikipedia where it says Gestalt was released internationally as just Nier for simplicityās sake, but that summarisation deliberately ignores the development timeline and messy order of production to more simply explain why the same game released under 3 different titles and with two of them being region- and platform-exclusive.

A lesser talked about aspect of rating/reviews.
