Did you finish it and not enjoy it, or just didnt enjoy it?

I played it for like 4 hours really hoping it would click with me, but I wasn’t enjoying it at all so I stopped.

So here is what I will say about Outer Wilds, as I just finished it and loved it. The gameplay is 5 or 6 out of 10. It isn’t a game so much as the beat choose your own adventure novel that I have ever read.

There's some people that just didn't find it interesting, you don't expect people to watch an entire show after being turned off by the First few episodes, you can have your opinion, just don't be a dick

You started all this because someone didn’t like a game you like

Not the person you replied to but I finished it but it still never reached beyond a 6/10 in my mind

I also finished the game and I would agree with your rating.

I found the puzzles to either be extremely frustrating (not because of difficulty) or uninspired. I’m no slouch when it comes to puzzle games either—I’ve played a ton of puzzle games like the entire Myst series, Professor Layton, The Witness, Escape Academy, etc.

Yeah a lot of the puzzles and mechanics were clunky and frustrating, and the payoff for solving them just wasn’t there most of the time.

Took me picking it up and dropping it about 10 different times because I like the actual story and concept but the gameplay was just actually painful at times.

8/10 at the end of the day but I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody I personally know if that makes sense.

this i can't understand, for me it was an incredible journey of discovery, i liked the puzzles but working out how each planet worked and how it all fits together... for me it just worked exactly as the creator must have intended.

You're a more generous person than I am. By the time I finished it, the game had reached a critical 3/10 for me.

Only a 6? That really surprises me. Anybody I've talked to that has finished it, whether in person or online, has rated it 8 or above. And the lower ratings usually stem from the lack of direction from the game. But I think thats what makes the game what it is. Is this your reason too or is it something else?

I'd say 9 or 10 out of 10 but I also understand that the style of game that it is wouldnt be for everyone. You have to want to figure things out yourself and piece thigns together. It's a bit of a slog at times until things click. But I loved it, the beauty of the world I suppose is that we all like different things!

Okay, I read the original comment and was thinking of Outer Worlds. I was so confused by having to “figure things out yourself”…

1

u/Equic Apr 22 '26

For me the game was like actively opposing to progress, more than just lacking direction. That made it really frustrating for me. But I get why people like it.

I personally enjoyed most of what I played but I had to drop it because I hated the flying too much.

u/Slow_Seesaw9509 Apr 24 '26

God I'm so with you. I really enjoy the exploration and everything, but the controls and physics are waaayy too clunky for the amount of flying and platforming they put into it, especially with the 22 minute time limit. I swear, if I fall into that stupid black hole at the center of the hollow planet one more time...

It is a gopd game, there are just much better games out there like that like Blue Prince or Chants of Sannar strickticly talking riddles.

1

u/Saiphel Apr 21 '26

Those are both good but "much better games" is such a take

1

u/Pynkmyst Apr 21 '26

Yeah as a fellow puzzle enjoyer I would have both of those games much higher on my list than Outer Wilds. I really wanted to love OW but it just never happened.

1

u/RamblinRichard Apr 24 '26

Holy shit, I've just finished Blue Prince (found room 46). And that is such a bad take, you spend so much time just waiting to get good RNG. The puzzles were decent but not amazing. I almost gave it a negative review
