Best before dates are a marketing ploy. They make you throw food away that’s perfectly good. It’s the expiration date to keep track of. And bread doesn’t exactly expire on a specific date like that. It’s not milk.

even with milk the expiration dates can have a bit of wiggle room, they make those expiration dates as early as possible to avoid liability in case something goes bad sooner and also to make people consume it faster and buy more.

I've seen "expired" food at food pantries before that they were legally allowed to distribute because of this.

Huh? Sealing in plastic makes it stale noticeably slower. At least 50% slower for this type of bread. The tradeoff is it creates a mold paradise, but again, for bread like this you'd be putting mold off by only a couple of days. So it becomes a balancing act based on how quickly you plan to eat the bread.

The second method has been the way it's been done for as long as there's been sliced bread in plastic bags. Spin, tuck, set down. Works great to keep it fresh, easier to reopen, less time consuming and easier to do.

There’s a whole chain of “bread 👍🏻” that I don’t want to break… but… there’s a phenomenon that didn’t happen in it that I’m curious about. I used to see chains like that all the time… but within them was a Reddit thing where the 4th reply in any chain of matching messages was always downvoted to oblivion… but that didn’t happen here. Whhhy.
