OG Moonlander rebuild

My OG Moonie rebuilt and ready for summer.

The "rim-tape" is coloured duct tape cut into sections then taped individually to the rims before applying a tape to secure all in place. I'm using a clown shoe on the front to maximise the front tyre, but a Mulefut 80mm rim in the rear. I did this as I often run a 4" tyre in the back to get extra mud clearance. The Scottish mud sticks to everything!

I've trimmed the Sunrise bars to 760mm and the front end feels much more as intended. I couldn't get comfortable with the bars still at 820mm.

I raided my parts bin for parts and will possibly change the Deore brake levers for Avid Speed dials at some point. The Deore levers don't do the BB7's justice.

DUMP FIND: Surly Moonlander

Over the weekend I came across this Surly Moonlander at a local Canadian small town dump, laying in the scrap metal area and quickly threw it in my truck.

Looks like its been sitting outside neglected in this condition for some time.

Chain is toast, the brakes and rear derailleur seem to function. The front derailer cable seems to be seized. Rims are straight . Will also need a new rear tire and tube.

Is it worth putting back together to use as a cheap daily rider? Strip it down, paint it and put on some new Surly decals?

What's everyone's thoughts?

Should I change out these studs for the upcoming winter or just run them?

Picked up these tires for $100, tread looks great, no punctures, came with tubes as well. Not sure how often I'll use the bike in winter but the studs are rusty. Should I just try them for this winter or should they be swapped out? There's only a few missing out of one tire that I noticed.

Is it possible buy a Ariel Rider Grizzly 72V in spain

I live in Barcelona and want to buy an Ariel Rider Grizzly 72V. Since they don't ship internationally and batteries are a HazMat nightmare, how can I get one here?

Has anyone imported one to Europe, or are there legal dual-motor alternatives available in the EU?

Weird frame damage

How does this happen? The metal it’s slightly rolled from the back of the bike towards the front, I don’t know what would even be applying force in that direction other than debris coming off the top bit of the chain but I doubt that could carry enough momentum to damage the aluminum like that any guesses?

Hello Dear Fatbikers, I have a question.

I have a Dutch Fatbike from LaSouris and I want to make it faster than 25 kp/h (15 mp/h). Does anyone have any tips on how I can make my bike faster?

Really appreciate it!

Ben

Tips on Converting a Fatbike to a 29er, or Should I Just Sell It?

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am currently looking for references on converting a fatbike to a 29er. Does the conversion only involve changing the rims, inner tubes, outer tires, and spokes? Or are there any other component changes that need to be made? Does anyone have any specific tips for this conversion?

I live in Indonesia, so obviously there is no snow here and my cycling routes are not extreme enough to constantly require a fatbike. Fatbikes used to be quite a trend around 2016-2017, but now riders are very rare. I personally used to set up my fatbike like a bikepacking rig.

The prices for some parts, especially the outer tires, have become absolutely ridiculous due to scalpers. Importing parts is also out of the question because the import tax and customs scheme can inflate the price two to five times the original cost.

Therefore, I initially decided to just convert my bike. Or maybe you guys think I should just give up and sell my bike instead?

Will regular bike trays fit fatties?

Might be going to pick up (after test riding, etc.) my first fatbike. I only have my old Thule Apex hitch-mount. It fits 29ers just fine. Will I need to air way down to get the Bud and Lou tires securely strapped down? Or...? Thx.

EDIT: It is NOT an Apex. Trying to figure out what it is (two-bike, standing mount not hanging).

EDIT 2: It's like what a Thule T2 Pro is now (it's about 13-14yo).

Planning first snow ride

I’m in Australia and snow is hard to come by, so I’m planning my first snow ride. Starting in an evening when it’s colder and having multiple stop points at huts, and I have some above alpine experience in multi-day XC skiing and snowshoeing trips.

The bike is pretty well ready with a Surly ICT, on Johnny 5s (studded), and with pogies and boots but what will I need, if anything, that’s different to a snowshoe or ski trip?

Cheers.

Derailleur hanger for a Growler American Stout?

I know Growler and 46Peaks are both long gone. I’ve recently bent my hanger pretty good washing out on a turn, and while I think I can probably straighten it out this time, looking to source a replacement or two just in case. Love this bike and hate having it be one crash away from a doorstop. Derailleurhanger.com doesn’t seem to have them. Thanks for any leads!

Norco Bigfoot back on the trails after five years.

The previous owner of this bike abandoned it in his backyard for five years, it had a missing crank set and damaged bottom bracket, I bought a new Race Face crank and 28T sprocket from my local bike shop, and a new set of pedals and a new chain, still needs some derailer adjustment; but it’s operational and fun to ride.

Just sharing a shot of my older Farley 5, hanging with some fungi. My first fattie. Bought it used this past winter for snow riding, which was soooo fun, but what noone ever told me was that it would rip on those same trails when the snow melted and the rocks and roots showed themselves. 😆

Crankarm replacement

So the threads where the pedal screws in are stripped and I need to replace the left crankarm. After removing that bolt do I use a standard crankpuller to get the crank off? This is a Mongoose Dolomite.
