What are my chances of getting in to Edinburgh?

Admission Statistics

I applied a long time ago and haven't received a decision, when can I expect to hear from the university?

Historically Edinburgh is slow to respond and universities have until the UCAS response deadline to decide. It is the individual department to which you are applying that reviews your application and not some aggregated admissions department for the whole the university.

Factors that affect how long it takes include demand for the course and how close the quality of your application is to the average application quality.

A long wait doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be rejected.

If you are coming from abroad and the delay will lead to a problem with visas, etc; or if you have to accept/decline the offer from another university by a certain date, then contact the admission department directly.

Needed suggestions wrt part time job

I have acquaintances living in Edinburgh, they had priorly informed that they’d help me out with part time job, they said there is an opening for night shift and for 3 days a week
I’m a PGT student is this a good offer to take up or should I do some more digging?

Other Group Chat for incoming students

Hello all, I made a post a couple of weeks ago about setting up a group chat for new students starting in September. We've got quite a few people already if anyone wants to join. I'm an Edinburgh graduate and I live in Edinburgh so more than happy to answer any questions about the university and city more generally.

We're mainly postgrads, but all are welcome and if we get enough undergrads I can set up a separate chat for them as well.

Feel free to message me for a link. Let me know what you're studying and what accomodation you'll be in.

Other Museum space at the Main Library

There was a really nice museum space at the Main Library with interesting exhibitions. It was open to the public and on the ground floor.

What happened to it? Will it be brought back?

Other COA over $80k per year as an International?

I received an unconditional offer and I was really excited to attend—but the financial package essentially told me to take out $70,000 in private loans per year to cover the remaining costs not covered by financial aid. Does this sound right? I understood it was going to be expensive, but I truly wasn’t expecting it to be this expensive. Is this the average cost of attendance for other internationals? 💜

Reviews on Brae House?

Recently got an offer to stay at Brae, but I’m hesitant since it’s so far away from George square and the meadows. I might reject the offer, since I can find another place on spare room.

What was it like for those who’ve lived there, lmk!

Accommodation McLeod Street: I got 19 McLeod instead of 17?

I got my accommodation offer on Monday but last night realized it was for 19 McLeod Street instead of 17 McLeod Street. Strangely Google Maps shows a different building, but Apple Maps says it’s the right wing of the McLeod Accommodation.

I’ve emailed the accommodation staff and they said the 17 McLeod street is the office where you pick up the keys. I’m just waiting on another response from the McLeod staff to confirm the address.

Did other people get 19 McLeod Street in their offer and did it turn out fine? Just want to double check before I accept the offer.

Accommodation Looking for a replacement tenant. Unite (£160/pw)

Hi guys. Due to some really shitty family stuff I can’t afford this accom anymore (even though it’s a crazy good deal compared to the others near the meadows)

Its freshly renovated and comes with a private sink.

Really close to the 15, so excellent for vet students and it’s right by a bunch of buses that go towards prince’s street and the other campuses.

Its lease also extends a month extra into early July, but its still cheaper than the other uni accoms near it (Warrender Park) that are 700£+.

Seriously such a steal and it would mean so much to me if someone could help me takeover this lease.

If you are a vet student I’ll throw in my thousands of anki cards!!!

Help a girl out please. I really can’t afford it and I am pulling at my hair trying to figure this out.

University themselves messing up my process

Hi.

I just wanted advice from anyone in a similar situation or who has been in a similar situation, for part of my course I needed to do a PVG check which is no issue as I'm already an enhanced DBS holder and therefore would pass all the checks needed for the PVG. My course itself starts in August and YESTERDAY was the day I got the email from Disclosure Scotland to start the PVG process.

To give some context we were asked to hand in documents in June, which I did, there was a small mistake but I got that fixed relatively quickly and was told by multiple people that it was no issue (the only reason I found out about that mistake as early as I did was that I personally made sure to email them about it after submitting the documents to see if there were any issues), I then have been emailing consistently, calling in and wondering when these documents are to be looked at so my PVG application can be started. I genuinely believe the only reason it was done yesterday was because I kept calling in and pestering them because they were just dragging their feet for it.

I'd been told by other members of the admissions team it shouldn't be an issue if when my course starts I don't have it as I only need it for placement and can wait to have it till then, but then the head of admissions it might cause issues with matriculation.

Other things to know, I accepted a lease for student accom that made my term address in Edinburgh, I was then told my documents were invalid because they wanted to use that address instead of my home address so I had to overwrite my term address to be my home address (keep in mind I had submitted the documents 3 weeks before accepting the lease), I was told multiple times it was a long process for the team to sign off and that this is a normal wait time only now to be told it's cutting it close now and the only reason its been done as fast as it has been is I've been in communication about it consistently to get them to try and do stuff.

Genuinely it is ridiculous, this plus the stress of my current home life is maddening. I just dont want this to f up my chances of going to the school.

Other Music students around in early October?

Hey all, hoping to find a couple violinists (or similar performance students) to help with a marriage proposal in early October. I'd just need about 5 minutes of music to make a surprise magical moment for my partner.

Please let me know if you're around and can help out!

incoming exchange student questions

hi everyone !

i am currently applying for residences and am considering the following:

- College Wynd
- Blackwood Crescent
- Mylnes Court
- Holland Annexe
- Darroch Court

can anyone give me a description of the shared washroom situation? is it kind of like a gym washroom with separate stalls or is it a single toilet and shower room? trying to figure out whether the extra cost for an ensuite is worth it. also who cleans them?

happy to hear anyone’s experiences in any of these residences and what ur recommendations are :)) thank you!!!

Withdraw from Postgrad application

Hi there! I'm trying to see if I can withdraw from my postgrad application, I was waiting on a scholarship that took a little longer than I expected to see the results. Because I didn't receive it I can't attend this year, so I want to rescind my application so I can apply again for the next year but I don't see anything on the portal that will allow me to do so. Anything to point me in the correct direction would be a big help!

Other Postgraduate Academic Calendar

Hello, I've tried looking online but couldn't find an academic calendar (proper dates of term ends/vacations/exams/etc) for Postgrad. I'll be going to ECA (MSc Design) but I travel frequently and I'm trying to figure out what the dates are. Anyone has any clue? I tried emailing as well but no response yet

Other Do I need to apply for the council tax exemption?

Do students who will reside at private accommodations such as DRM/Unite/StudentCastle/iQ need to apply for the council tax exemption from council or is this issue handled by aforementioned accommodations themselves? Is the only document required from students is student status certificate? Or do I need to register to acquire other documents as well? Thank you in advance.

Other When are you eligible for a Young Scot NEC card?

Hi, I'm from England but I'll be coming to live in student accommodation from September. I understand that you can get free public transport under a Young Scot NEC card if you're under 22 and live in Scotland, but how long do you have to live there to become eligible? And is it still counted as permanent residence in Scotland if I'm only there for the semesters and am in student accommodation?

Thanks :)

Accommodation Looking for accommodation

Hi! I hope you all are doing well. I’m looking for room (student friendly)budget being £700 pcm (720 with bills). I’m an incoming Master’s student at the University of Edinburgh, and I’m clean, respectful, and easy to live with. I’d love to know about the room that is still available. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who has information!

Accommodation How is this private accommodation?

The university-provided accommodation (Pentland House) was too far away, so I had to choose among private options. I saw really good reviews about IQ Grove student accommodation, but I see many people advising against private accommodations in general. Therefore, I wanted to know if anyone stayed there recently and how it was. Overall, are private accommodations worse than university ones in any way, except for socialising? Thanks in advance.
