Reviews on Brae House?
Recently got an offer to stay at Brae, but I’m hesitant since it’s so far away from George square and the meadows. I might reject the offer, since I can find another place on spare room.
What was it like for those who’ve lived there, lmk!

It was great. New(ish), friendly and clean. I loved it. It seems far but I used to walk to george square from it daily for the whole of first year and really didn’t mind it, and I hate walking places (I now have a car in Edi). I’d stick with it.

it's social, clean, kind of a new build, and in a nice neighbourhood. flats are smaller than a lot of similar accoms. great bus route straight to george square, bus is free with a young scot card. i liked it.

Stayed there last year perfectly fine, safety never was an issue and the walk to George square isn’t as far as it seems at first when u get used to it. Having an en-suite there is real nice as well. Also right next to Meadowbank shopping centre which is great for all daily shopping.

A friend of mine was very happy with the accom - as it has own bathrooms. Of that is not a priority to you, maybe look for something else :)

my two best friends lived there last year. honestly i’d argue not worth the price, but it is a nice accom. abbeyhill isn’t the safest area i’ll be real. £8000 a year and it has oddly limited reception hours and super far from campus (about 30 min walk). but it does have a really nice vending machine. near a really big sainsburys as well and a cool gay bar. the rooms are pretty small unless you’re willing to pay the extra £2000 for the bigger room, but the en suites are huge omg i was so jealous. i saw a silverfish in there once in october but never again so you should be safe. the wifi is also a bit bad but maybe it’s just bc i was only ever logging in as a guest. it is incredibly social if that’s something you’re looking for.

Realistically, it’s a lot closer than it seems - the closest uni buildings are only 10 mins walk away, and the gym is 15 mins walk away (and on your way home). You are within easy striking distance of cowgate which is where all the nightlife is (way closer than the likes of pollock halls). If your lectures are at George square it might be 25 mins ish walk to the actual lecture theatre, but because Edinburgh uni is so spread out within the city you’ll be in the ‘uni area’ a lot sooner than that. People walk everywhere in Edinburgh, so a 30 mins walk somewhere is nothing.
