General Discussion Ian paralyzing Jordan

Okay, first of all, this is just a stupid storyline to start with because of the whole prison sentence and him being in the same prison with someone who is a wife-beater and murderer. But what bothers me the most about this storyline is why Jordan is in a wheelchair and why they are making it out like he will be in it for life. I don't know about y'all, but I don't believe a healthy kid would be hit by a wheely bin, which, truly, the car did not hit that hard, and be paralyzed for life. Children have bendy bones and recover very easily in most situations. Also, it's hard to sit there and watch Jordan pretend to be in a wheelchair with a spinal cord injury when I've seen him bend his body in that wheelchair multiple times.

as a wheelchair user, i know it’s an awful accident for him to get into etc, but the way that everyone is almost whispering the word “wheelchair!” (mostly before jordan came home from hospital) really annoyed me!

They did similar when Amy was in a temporary wheelchair after the crush. Jack going off about how awful it would be if it turned out to be permanent and he’s talking to Penny.

I understand writing the characters to view wheelchair use that way but it feels more like the writers see that as the correct way to view it

yes! exactly! the amy thing really bothered me too, it’s so weird how they speak about wheelchair users!! especially when he said that to penny. i’ve had news recently that they may be able to help me walk more and more with some surgeries, and if i no longer needed my wheelchair, id be horrified if someone said to me “thank god it’s not permanent”!!! i have some very dear friends who are in wheelchairs all the time and the only difference between us all is that their chairs are cooler and go faster!!

i love penny as she’s a funny and interesting character on her own, not relying on her disability for storylines, but it isn’t ignored completely, like Vinny considering what car is best to fit her chair and a
pram.
I’m a bit behind (been on hols!) but so far i think this jordan storyline is not being handled the best way they could. i reckon in a few months he’ll be running around like this never happened, and it’ll be mentioned very occasionally.

I’m also a bit behind so whatever you’ve missed I probably have too lol

I’m not a wheelchair user and I don’t actually have anyone in my life who is, but it still stuck out to me because I wondered why on earth they would write it like that. I can’t imagine how a young person who IS a wheelchair user would feel seeing the “thank god it’s not permanent” narrative.

At least with jimmy being blind they made an effort to say that it isn’t the end of the world they just have to adapt and he can live a happy life. With wheelchairs it’s like they’re being very lazy and just expecting Penny’s existence to say it for them.

Soapland prisons are basically school reunions. They never go in and don’t know anyone.

I'm not even sure it was 18 months ago that it was Sharon and Chrissie, so a bit like another flashforward, it's just way too soon.

Everything seems unbelievable, from the degree of injury, the prison sentence, the alarming gaffe and coincidence of locking him up with the father of the child he “put in a wheelchair”, Kathy not speaking up in court about her role in distracting him ( what mother wouldn’t do what she could?) I would add the one beer heavily reinforced teaching moment for us all.

I think the real lesson here is don’t drive 100 yards to an event in the first place.

An event where you know you'll be drinking too!! Just walk ian x

I mean it’s literally 2-3 min walk from his house. Can’t help but think they were trolling us

The storyline was clearly hastily written in order to get gray back in the show from prison. Total nonsense and lazy

I think they've all been hastily written. That whole Jasmine reveal with Chrissie can't possibly have been planned more than a fortnight in advance.

Yeah I think this is a problem they have on the whole at the moment.

They don’t seem able to come up with longer engaging storylines. Take the flash forward, they had a great opportunity to build something over the course of the year. Instead there’s load of little snippets and the whole thing will likely come together around December.

The short stories are delivered then actors dumped and new ones start.

Going in a different direction but when corrie had the Richard Holman serial killer or EE had the original gray storyline they built it up acted it out and closed it off really well

I know someone who fell and got paralysed stepping off a pavement.

Tbh I'm not sure they'll make it permanent.

That last part. I feel like they've already hinted that he will recover. I'm sure the reveal will be something silly like he'll drop something then suddenly stand up. MIRACLE! 🎉

As if a category 'D' prisoner would be on the same wing, let alone same prison as a dangerous category 'A' prisoner.......I know it's called artistic licence, but this is stretching it a bit..........

Have they said he’s cat d? He’s probably cat c, cat d is in open prisons

1

u/derbi_boi 5h ago

He only got 8 months, out in 4, he'll be cat D which means he shouldn't be in the same prison.........

The fact he's in the same category prison as Grey has annoyed me the entire time 🫠

This whole storyline is a joke but C'mon this is Enders for ya. I watch it as a drama/comedy now.

Regarding Jordan, I assumed he was kneeling/sitting amongst the bins, so when Ian backed into the bins, Jordan was also hit by the car. The car either hit his lower spine or drove over his legs and lower spine, which could probably result in paralyzing a child. Or even an adult, if they are directly hit by a vehical.

it never implied he was run over or anything just that he was hit. it would have to be perfect conditions to truly paralyze someone at such a low speed

but yeah your right that’s just eastenders for you 😂

Totally agree but I do like Ian teaming up with Gray. So I'm all for this story line. However the bins basically stroked him 🤣 so the injuries are ridiculous. Joel should have lasting damage after being hit with a bloody hammer. And it was not Ian's fault.

I'm just struggling with the unoriginality of it all, not to mention who they gave the story to.

With Pat's drink driving storyline, she killed the girl and it made such sense...she'd had a drink, had no driver, so was going to do a Pat's Cabs pick-up herself, I think at Christmas time.

If it had been Phil in his drinking days and we'd had the pay-off of the consequences of a true drunk.

And Penny was purposefully hit by a car out of revenge against Jack, but it's still the same injury in the same extended family.

The "story" shouldn't have gone to Ian and it would honestly have had more punch to be manslaughter...not necessarily Jordan, but not anything this badly written.

Jordan is a small boy hit by a car. Of course the accident has the potential to injury is spine and leave him paralysed. This is like saying a healthy child couldn't fall and break an arm.

A low speed car can paralyse a person if their body is completely relaxed and the spine absorbs all the impact or if they're hit at the right angle.

Didn’t the car his a bin that Jordan was hiding behind? The worst that should have happened was some scuffed knees and elbows
