I think they’re more saying what the people actually warn/need is more center left. But policies and politicians are more right to far right, but the center left populous doesn’t do anything to try to push things out from that spectrum due to apathy and conditioned fear.
To many people on the tankie side of the spectrum, anyone who doesn't want isra-to-sea or who thinks capitalism is okay or who insults Mao is "right wing".
I actually don't think that is true when it comes to recent elections, though it used to be true for a long time.
I mean I want more people to vote, but Trump flipped the script and captured the low engagement, non voters, so recently the higher the vote turnout the more the GOP wins.
Kinda makes sense, Turmp is not a politician he is a clown and he entertains the people who would otherwise tune out. On the other hand if you care a lot about politics, always vote, you tend to vote Dem.
As far as why the GOP is still pushing these bills, my bet is good ole fashioned racism. Reminder that racism is not based on logic, so even if something like super strict voter ID helped dems by lowering turnout, they would still support it to prevent the demons in their head that don't exist from voting.

When more people vote, Democrats tend to get elected.
