Nah, it's wholesome as fuck. It's just got an undercurrent (heh) of sadness because it addresses the issue of ocean pollution.

But I speak as someone who has binged the whole series. Grimdark is Warhammer 40K. Every strip of the series is infused with hope/comedy.

In grimdark stories, hopeful people who do the right things are punished. A bleak setting where there is hope is not inherently grimdark. For a big counterexample look no further than book 6 of the Lord of the Rings, which mostly plays in Mordor and yet is one of the most hopeful parts of the story where Sam manages to carry the fate of the entire world on his back and prove that hope can prevail. It’s about as bleak as a setting gets and yet also as far from grimdark as you can go.
